Chapter Seventy-Seven: Killing the Demon 17

Chapter Seventy-Seven: Killing the Demon 17

Ados hugged and kissed Lu Cen. The skin on its back deflated like a balloon with a hole punched in it, and two dark blue wings emerged from it. The skin peeled away little by little from the top of its head, revealing its original appearance. The outer skin was hard, the skin was brown, and four tentacles clearly held Lu Cen in four different places. Its lips were very fleshy, and it was focused on kissing Lu Cen.

Its body is slender, like a dragon holding a precious gem.

Luther's chest heaved violently. What was that?

Before the thought could even finish swirling in his mind, the thing noticed his presence and looked over with a pair of pale golden eyes that resembled those of a wild beast.

When Lu Cen was woken up by Ados the next day, he was extremely dizzy, as if he had been drinking heavily the day before. He covered his head and groaned softly.

After Ados dressed him and he ate his last pot-cooked breakfast, Lu Cen finally recovered.

The group headed towards the summit of the snow-capped mountain, and the temperature dropped as they went.

Luther was walking past a deep pit when he didn't pay attention to his footing and almost slipped in. Lu Cen asked him in surprise, "Luther, why are you so distracted?"

Luther looked up and saw that there wasn't a single mark on Lu Cen's exposed skin. He didn't know how long that thing had been following them or how long it had been treating Lu Cen like this. A chill ran through him, spreading throughout his body. He didn't understand why the demon had let him go last night. He was puzzled but also grateful that the demon hadn't attacked him, giving him another chance.

He must find the Ice Blade and kill this disgusting thing.

Luther shook the dirt off his clothes. "It's nothing. I just didn't sleep well last night. The journey ahead is dangerous, so don't leave our sight, understand?"

Lu Cen felt that this person was just like Ados, a bit neurotic.

They camped out overnight, and the next day they walked for half a morning before finally arriving at the foot of the snow-capped mountain. There were no plants there, only hard rocks, and above them stretched endless snow-capped mountains. The wind and snow howled, and everyone wrapped themselves tightly in their coats. The captain of the guard looked around, completely unsure of which way to go.

Yados said, "Let's organize our supplies first. Food is scarce in the snow-capped mountains, so we need to be well prepared."

Back in the forest, Lucen recalled the contents of the book. Alvin said that they had reached the snow mountain and walked for an unknown amount of time before arriving at a place with buildings, which was where the demons lived. The book did not specify how many days this "time" was.

Lu Cen was worried, fearing that all these people would die here.

He brought some food, and Luther also gave him a dagger to hang on his leg.

Chen Ning shivered from the cold, finding the task truly torturous; her face was pale with cold.

The group packed their belongings; if they saved some, it would be enough for them to eat for quite some time. Ados told the three men to wait there, and if they didn't return in half a month, they shouldn't wait any longer, as they must have died on the way. The three guards, with tears in their eyes, watched as they walked into the vast snow-capped mountains and soon disappeared from sight.

The snow-capped mountain was very cold, but fortunately the wind was not strong. The group walked with difficulty, their feet feeling as heavy as if they were made of lead.

That wasn't the worst part. The worst part was that when they slept at night, there was no firewood on the snow mountain, so they could only find a sheltered spot and squeeze together. Chen Ning was in worse condition than the others. As a girl, she was more sensitive to the cold than the boys. Being squeezed in the middle of the group didn't help much. Lu Cen was in the same boat as her. She was thin and had limited strength. On the third day after entering the snow mountain, Lu Cen caught a cold and had a runny nose.

Ados and Luther were heartbroken and wished they could take his place.

But they had no way to solve it.

After crossing the vast snow-capped mountains, they saw a large patch of green appear in the distance amidst a white landscape.

The lush greenery was so refreshing and invigorating.

The captain of the guard was startled. "Look, what's that?"

Chen Ning looked up and screamed, "The forest! It's the forest!"

Lu Cen was feeling dizzy and was jolted awake by her shout. She then looked over instinctively because of what she said.

In the snow-capped mountains, a lush green grove stands amidst the snow.

The group arrived at the forest on the morning of the fourth day. The ground was covered with snow, and the cold was not diminished at all, but everyone was still very excited.

At least they can make a fire now.

The fire was quickly set up, and the familiar heat almost brought tears of joy to Lu Cen and Chen Ning.

Both of their hands were red and covered in chilblains. The heat from the fire made their palms itch. Chen Ning couldn't stand the itch and moved the hands away a little.

His brows and eyes were frozen, but they melted under the fire and slid down Lu Cen's face.

Once he had recovered, Luther brought over a goat. He had already gutted it, stuck two thick logs into the ground, and then used a crossbar to pierce the goat's belly before roasting it on the logs. Soon, the fat on the goat's skin sizzled and emitted an enticing aroma.

Lu Cen warmed himself by the fire and unknowingly fell asleep leaning against the side.

His outer robe quickly became soaked upon contact with the ground. When Ados saw this, he swept the snow off the stone, placed animal hides on it, and then put him on it. He also took off his boots and put them by the fire to dry. These boots were waterproof; otherwise, his feet would have been injured long ago.

Lu Cen was sleeping soundly, with dark circles under his eyes, until Lude cut a piece of mutton for him and woke him up, saying, "Eat before you sleep."

Lu Cen's stomach rumbled a few times, and he took the mutton and began to eat it slowly.

When half the arrow was left, it flew from afar and struck Lu Cen in the shoulder. Lu Cen groaned, and the mutton in his hand fell to the ground, staining the snow. Lu De's expression changed, and he abruptly pulled Lu Cen behind a tree, shouting, "Enemy attack!"

Chen Ning was agile; he rolled on the ground and dodged countless arrows.

One of the guards was unable to dodge in time and was shot in the arm. He was then pulled behind a tree by another person.

Lu Cen clutched her wound, warm, bright red blood seeping from between her fingers. Her lips turned pale, and she collapsed weakly onto Lu De.

"Inlai!"

Ados approached, unsure where to touch him. In his haste, an arrow grazed his arm and embedded itself in the ground with a clang. His expression changed, and he had no choice but to focus on the situation at hand. Luther's face was grim. "Why are there enemies?"

"Let's not talk about this now, let's get out of here!"

They were unfamiliar with the area and had no idea where to retreat.

Figures began to appear in the distance and would soon be in front of them. The captain of the guard calmly pointed in a direction and said, "Follow me."

The group retreated rapidly, almost to the edge of the forest. The captain of the guards ran wildly to the left, while Luther, carrying Lucen, managed to keep up with them.

The voices behind them didn't disappear; instead, they grew even closer, relentlessly pursuing them.

"Climb the tree!" the captain of the guards shouted.

“They didn’t come with many men, so an ambush could buy us some time,” the captain of the guard said to Luther. “You stay in the tree and look for an opportunity to shoot!”

Lu Cen was sweating profusely in the heavy snow, his whole body trembling with pain, his clothes soaked with blood. Luther was panicking, and the captain of the guard came over and pulled at his clothes, "Calm down, kill the enemy first, or we'll all die!"

As soon as he finished speaking, seven or eight people appeared close by. One of them said, "The footsteps disappeared."

"Be careful, it should be nearby."

Luther nocked an arrow and swiftly shot both men, killing them instantly.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the others launched an attack. In just half an hour, the people coming from the opposite side were lying on the ground. Ados was injured in the hand, the captain of the guard was stabbed in the stomach, and a guard died. The captain of the guard dared not stay there for too long and called for everyone to move. They wandered around in the forest and were lucky enough to find a small tree hole, which could just squeeze a few of them in. Lu Cen lay flat on the ground, his face ashen. Ados ignored his own injury and tore open his clothes to check the condition of the arrows.

"We must pull out the arrow as soon as possible."

Luther roared, "Then pull it out already!!"

Ados said with difficulty, "Pulling it out is easy, but there's no medicine to stop the bleeding!"

Luther poured out all the bottles he had prepared, his fingers trembling, "Look, which ones are usable."

“These are medicines for treating external injuries,” Ados said. “We won’t need them.”

“We can’t just watch him die!” Luther’s eyes reddened, like a trapped beast caught in a snare.

Ados said, "I don't want to either!"

The captain of the guard leaned against the tree hollow, gasping for breath, as he poured medicine onto his stomach wound and whispered, "Shut the hell up, or we'll attract the pursuers!"

“Use this.” He tossed a medicine bottle to Ados.

Ados opened the medicine and smelled it; it was excellent wound medicine. He found the right angle and position and instructed Luther, "Hold him tight and don't let him move around."

Ados gripped the arrow and deftly pulled it out, blood splattering all over his face. Blood continued to gush from the wound. He poured the medicine onto a piece of cloth that was still relatively clean, and pressed it firmly against the wound. In a moment, the cloth was soaked through. Luther watched anxiously, but held back his voice.

After a few minutes, the bleeding gradually decreased.

Ados poured medicine onto the wound again, and then picked a few plants from outside, crushed them, and applied them to the wound.

"Lay him flat on his back, and do not move him under any circumstances."

After quickly treating his injuries, Ados leaned to the side without saying a word. The most dangerous moment was yet to come. If he developed a fever, the outcome was uncertain. His eyes darkened, and he was just as anxious as Luther. He simply couldn't understand why anyone would attack them in such a desolate place, especially with such deadly force. They had no grudges against each other, so what could be the reason?

He didn't know, but Chen Ning knew very well.

She stood next to the captain of the guards and said, "Don't those people's methods and clothes look familiar?"

The captain of the guards was pale. He could feel it himself; although there were no vital injuries, he had lost too much blood and was extremely weak. He glanced at Chen Ning and asked, "You know?"

Chen Ning pondered for a moment, then lowered her voice: "Those people wear the same uniforms as your guards, only the colors are slightly different, and their combat strength is so high."

The captain of the guard raised an eyebrow. "You have someone in mind?"

Chen Ning thought for a moment, "Many groups of people left from Galilee City. This group should be the guards, if nothing unexpected happens."

"It's interesting that the guards actually want to kill us."

Chen Ning didn't understand what was interesting about it; he was almost dead, how could it be interesting?

The enemy outnumbered them, while they were few and far between, some injured, some sick and weak, and they didn't even know how they would escape.

There must be players in the guards!
