Chapter Sixty-One: Killing the Demon 1

Chapter Sixty-One: Killing the Demon 1

The water in the bathtub gradually lost its temperature. Lu Cen stood up, and water poured over him, leaving wet footprints on the floor.

He buried himself in the covers, his thoughts rising and falling, sometimes awake, sometimes asleep, until the discomfort in his body disappeared.

This break passed exceptionally quickly. Not long after Lu Cen had adjusted himself, his assistant informed him that it was time for the next dungeon run.

"Please draw your copy."

"Draw successful. Your current instance is the level 3 instance 'Kill the Demon'. Due to your excellent performance in the previous instance, you can choose the identity card first."

The screen emitted a fluorescent glow, and Lu Cen's gaze fell upon it. There were seven characters in total this time. Unlike before, each character's portrait was unique, and their names were also different.

Young master, young lady, maid, captain of the guard, count, boy, witch doctor

After careful observation, Lu Cen chose the role of the eldest young master. He had two considerations: first, among the male roles, the count was too old and the boy was too young, since the witch doctor could not distinguish between men and women; second, the role of the eldest young master should have a higher status in the instance, with more freedom, which would make it easier for him to act. He clicked on the character card, and the space in front of him suddenly twisted.

[Instance Name: Kill the Demon.]

A legend has been passed down since ancient times that besides humans, there lives a group of demons whose forms are unknown. They feed on human flesh and blood, have almost endless lifespans, and are happy to disguise themselves as humans and mingle among the crowds...

Someone accidentally discovered that ice blades could completely kill demons. In order to eradicate demons, humans fought one after another. Finally, only one demon remained in the world, but it was good at disguising itself...

When a demon disguises itself as a human, it is indistinguishable from a human, except that its blood is green; this is the only way to identify a demon.

[Mission: Completely kill the last demon to clear the game.]

[Mission Duration: Within 60 days.]

[Background: Your name is Inlai, you are twenty-two years old, and you live in a remote small town where arranged marriages are common. You were betrothed to Luther, who lives across the street, at birth. However, his parents died early, and his family gradually declined. Your parents have changed their minds about breaking off the engagement...]

To change your parents' decision, Luther ventures alone into the Roshi Forest, hoping to become the strongest warrior and win them over...

The small town of Sk had enjoyed a century of peace, but recently many people have died tragically. All signs point to a demon arriving here...

Lu Cen staggered before regaining his balance. The light rain dripping on his face made him forget everything else, and he found a pavilion to take shelter from the rain.

He looked around and found himself in what seemed to be a luxurious manor, surrounded by greenery. A stream flowed nearby, its bottom crystal clear. Looking at himself, he noticed he was wearing an uncomfortable, unfamiliar white robe, which looked like something from the Middle Ages.

Lu Cen had fragmented memories of the original owner in his head, passed over by his assistant. Inlai's parents were in the gem business and were very wealthy in the small town of Sk. During years of great famine or when people were struggling to make ends meet, his father would help the poor. Everyone in town called him Count Rosent, and even the mayor was on good terms with him because of his wealth.

Besides Inlai, they also have a daughter named Luna, who is eighteen years old, beautiful, innocent and cute, and engaged to Ellie next door.

A girl dressed in greyish-white clothes saw Lu Cen from afar and hurriedly grabbed an umbrella. She looked about fifteen or sixteen years old, but her tone was mature like an adult. She bowed her head respectfully and said, "Young Master, where is your personal maid?! How can you be left standing here in the rain? It's outrageous!"

"It's alright, please take me back." Lu Cen steadied his voice, trying his best to get into character.

"It's my pleasure, young master."

The rain was light, just a light drizzle. The green plants swayed in the raindrops. The manor was very large, and after walking for a long time, when the European castle appeared before Lu Cen, he was still startled. He quickly composed himself, and the maid escorted him back to his room before respectfully withdrawing.

The room was very spacious, with a 2.2-meter-long bed in the middle, covered by a white gauze curtain. A gray and white carpet almost covered the entire room. Shelves against the wall were filled with books and exquisite porcelain. On the other side were two long swords with intricate patterns on their surfaces. The wardrobe contained an astonishing amount of clothing.

This is a luxurious and opulent house.

"Hello player Lu Cen, assistant, 1591 is at your service."

"Hello."

Lu Cen walked to the shelf and slowly searched for books related to demons.

"Young master!" A maid rushed in: "I've brought the gems you requested!"

The maid didn't look very old, with deep-set eyes and clear, bright blue eyes. This was Inlai's personal maid, Himi.

She held a brown box in her hands, inside which was a green gem the size of a thumb, threaded with a thick gold wire. Besides the green gem, other smaller gems of various colors were also attached to the gold wire, making it gorgeous and exquisite. She picked it up and put it around Lu Cen's neck, examining it for a moment: "Young Master, you look really good in this. It will definitely make Ados fall in love at first sight."

Lu Cen asked in confusion, "Ados?"

“The mayor’s son, young master, you haven’t forgotten, have you? The count and his wife wanted you to meet him, and you also had the same idea, which is why you sent me to retrieve this gem.”

Lu Cen: "......"

He took the gemstone off and put it in the box: "Let's find a place to put it."

Himi did as she was told.

Lu Cen turned her attention back to the books, but after searching for a long time, she found nothing about demons.

Himi asked in confusion, "Young Master, what are you looking for?"

Do you know the legends of demons?

Himi said with great interest, "I know, but isn't that just a legend? Nobody has ever seen what a demon looks like."

"If it's a legend, why isn't it recorded in any books?"

"I don't think I've ever seen any books about demons."

Lu Cen seemed thoughtful, then asked, "Has anything major happened in the city recently?"

Himi asked in confusion, "No, it's the same as before."

The maid knocked on the door a few times: "Young master, it's time for dinner. The Earl and his wife are waiting for you downstairs."

Lu Cen straightened his clothes and went downstairs. A crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling of the living room. There were fresh flowers and white candles on the long table. The count and his wife were in the seats of honor, with Luna on their right and Lu Cen on their left. Dinner consisted of steak and roast chicken, along with several other desserts and dishes.

After finishing her meal, Luna told her parents that she was going out to play with Ellie. The Earl nodded, and Lucen also said that she wanted to go for a walk. The Earl did not stop her.

Lu Cen took Ximi out to the street. It was evening, the sky was getting dark, and the air was very humid. The street was bustling with people. Some passersby would greet Lu Cen, and at first he would nod in response. But later, there were too many people, so he stopped nodding.

The town of Kexi is not large, and the population is not many. Several main streets crisscross, and several other alleys are interspersed. According to Himi, there are many small villages around this town, not far away. They sometimes come here to buy things. The shops on the street are bustling. Lu Cen observed that most of the items in the shops are related to daily necessities, as well as various animal furs and meats.

As you approach the town entrance, a dusty road winds into the distance, and faintly visible in the distance is a vast expanse of green vegetation, blocking out the sun.

"Is that the Roshi Forest?"
