Chapter 356 Deserved to Die
Princess Fu'an suddenly raised her head, her face no longer showing any fear, but instead filled with the joy of revenge.
"Thank you for returning to the ferry."
Her voice was soft, yet it was as cold as poisoned ice: "How are you feeling? Does your wound feel numb or cold?"
She slightly raised her right hand, arrogantly displaying the spiked ring to him.
"This 'Tethering Injection' is a relic left to me by my mother. It is deadly upon contact with blood and there is no antidote. Even if one is lucky enough to be cured, one's body will gradually deteriorate and turn into a cold poison that will follow one like a shadow for the rest of one's life, from which one can never recover."
Cold poison?
Xie Guidu's eyes were filled with disbelief, shock, and rage, but even more so with the fear of his plans collapsing and his life rapidly slipping away.
"Fu'an, how dare you!"
"How dare you... Aren't you afraid of death?" A chill ran down Xie Guidu's spine, his eyes widened in fury, and he put on a show of bravado.
In his previous life, he was unfortunately infected with a cold poison and never knew who had plotted against him.
So it was the eldest princess!
The eldest princess probably hated him to the core, as he almost made Princess Fu'an a concubine, which is why she poisoned him...
How ridiculous!
The eldest princess died at his hands. Could this be considered an eye for an eye?
He struggled to stand up, but suddenly felt dizzy. A piercing pain spread rapidly throughout his body, and the despair of being tormented by illness in his previous life instantly enveloped him.
"Thank you for returning to the ferry!"
It seemed as if Dou Wenyi's anxious and concerned voice could be heard in her ears, "Trust me, I will definitely find an antidote for you, just bear with it."
But Dou Wenyi would never save him again!
...
He shook his head, staggered a step, and barely managed to stand by holding onto the cold coffin. He was probably really going to die soon, but it was a pity he couldn't die with his brother!
Princess Fu'an suddenly burst into laughter, tears streaming down her face. "Why wouldn't I dare? From the day my mother died, I never wanted to live again!"
She stared at his defeated face and said, word by word, "A person like you only deserves to rot here alone! Xie Guidu, this is the ending you deserve."
The light in Xie Guidu's eyes began to fade, his vision became increasingly blurry, and he felt that all the strength he had left in his body had been exhausted.
He reluctantly gave the order, "What are you waiting for? Move!"
The man in black immediately drew his broadsword and slashed at Fu'an.
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh.
Several arrows streaked across the sky like lightning, striking the man in black, whose broadsword clattered to the ground. Fu'an hurriedly crouched behind the coffin, dodging the flashing blades.
A head was suddenly severed, and then more and more people in black fell. Outside, there were hurried footsteps, sounds of fighting, the clatter of horses' hooves, and screams of panic as people fled in all directions—a scene filled with chaos and helplessness.
In less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, all the rebels inside the house were strangled.
"Fu'an—"
"Hurry up and help Princess Fu'an over here!"
Fu'an breathed a sigh of relief, lifted her skirt, and jogged across the street.
Xie Guidu watched helplessly as the people around him fell one by one, but he had no strength left in his body and could not stop the noise around him. His tall body slid slowly down the coffin and curled up into a ball.
In a daze, he saw a pair of black boots embroidered with gold dragon patterns. Xie Guidu's gaze climbed upwards and, sure enough, he saw the face he least wanted to see in his life—Pei Siyan.
Standing beside him was Dou Wenyi, the woman he had been longing for. She was still as dignified and virtuous as ever, but her slightly protruding belly was really an eyesore!
Why Pei Siyan?
Why must he fall into the dust, even in death bearing the infamy of a traitor, while he is praised and hailed as a wise ruler whose name will be remembered for generations?
Why did Yi'er, who loved him the most, also abandon him?
He was unwilling to accept it!
Xie Guidu's eyes were bloodshot as he stared intently at her. "Yi'er, I'll pay for the debt from our past life with my life. Please, love me one more time..."
"Shut up!" Dou Wenyi's eyes revealed undisguised contempt.
Silent silence fell as Pei Siyan embraced her slender waist. "Xie Guidu, those who do many evil deeds will surely perish. You have only yourself to blame, and you have brought this upon yourself!"
His voice echoed in the somber mourning hall.
Xie Guidu seemed not to hear, like a dying trapped beast, his lingering gaze fixed on Dou Wenyi, trying to find a trace of pity in her eyes.
"Yi'er..."
He vomited a mouthful of dark red blood, his breath coming in gasps, his voice broken.
"In my past life... I wronged you, unable to see my own true feelings. But in this life, everything I've planned is just to... reconcile with you..."
Dou Wenyi looked at him quietly, her once warm eyes now devoid of their former tenderness.
She gently broke free from Pei Siyan's protective arm, took a step forward, her skirt brushing against the blood-stained ground, and stopped a few steps away from Xie Guidu.
Her voice was cold and detached, "Don't you understand yet?"
A glimmer of light suddenly flashed in Xie Guidu's eyes, as if he had grasped the last piece of driftwood.
She lowered her eyes, looking at his utterly disheveled appearance.
“You keep saying it’s for me, but everything you’ve done, isn’t it all for yourself? In my past life, for the sake of so-called family harmony, you never protected me. You didn’t even care about Nannan’s death. I’ve never wronged you, but in the end, you gave me to the barbarians.”
"You are a cold and selfish person to the core."
"In this life, in order to force me to turn back, you did not hesitate to collude with pirates and Japanese pirates, ignite war, stir up unrest in the court, and cause great suffering to the people. What you love has always been yourself, your inviolable pride and your insatiable ambition and desire."
"I'm nothing but your excuse for not accepting defeat!"
"No...no!"
Xie Guidu coughed violently, the immense pain almost overwhelming him, but it paled in comparison to the sting of her words.
"Yi'er, I regret it, I really regret it!"
"Your regret is too late and too cheap."
Dou Wenyi interrupted him, her expression calm, her words sharp as knives, "If possible, I would rather have never known you in this life or the last!"
"Now that you are nearing the end of your life, do you know how I feel?"
Xie Guidu held his breath, a last glimmer of hope in his eyes.
Dou Wenyi curled her lips into a cruel smile: "It's a relief. You deserved to die!"
Xie Guidu trembled violently, nearly collapsing, "No...you can't do this to me!"
Pei Siyan stepped forward at the opportune moment and affectionately put his arm around her shoulder again. He looked at Xie Guidu with a cold gaze, sharp as a knife, carrying the innate majesty of an emperor.
"I truly love you..."
Xie Guidu chuckled softly, his voice filled with endless desolation and self-mockery. Blood kept spilling from the corner of his mouth, the pain from the tether had spread to his heart.
All his plans, all his struggles, all his regrets and resentment, became a complete joke in the face of her words, "He deserved to die."
He struggled to raise his hand, trying to grasp his Yi'er, but in the end, it simply fell limply to his sides, and he gradually stopped breathing...
Dou Wenyi remained expressionless, nestled against Pei Siyan, and said softly, "Your Majesty, let's go back."
Xie Guidu was foolish and delusional, obsessed with his mistakes for two lifetimes, and deserved to die!
