Chapter 11 Value

Chapter 11 Value

The child and the magic mushrooms on her head were worth more than he had initially estimated.

Quinn slowly straightened up and walked silently towards the door.

He paused before opening the door.

"Scarface."

"Boss?" A respectful response came from the scarred man outside the door.

"Get ready." Quinn's voice was low, but it was clearly heard throughout the room. "Come with me to the main city in a couple of days." He paused, then added with a decisive tone, "Take them with you."

The door was closed and the sound of locking was heard.

Old Kane froze in place, his whole body cold.

Suddenly go to the main city?

The meat porridge on the table had already turned cold and formed a layer of oily film.

Old Kane had no appetite, and even the aroma seemed nauseating. Quinn's words were like chains, tightly around his and his cub's necks.

Apply for a status? Or offer her and her mushrooms as precious treasures to the greater powers in the main city? Old Kane didn't dare to think too deeply. Every possibility led to the abyss.

Time slipped slowly under the oppressive atmosphere. Occasionally, the door would click, and a kind-looking woman would arrive with some food and water. She remained silent, dropping off her things and leaving. Old Kane offered An Zhi something warm to eat, but she was clearly listless and listless, her weakness seemingly taking its toll.

The stronghold was busier and more depressing than usual.

Through the door, Old Kane could hear the frequent clatter of footsteps, hushed conversations, and the clang of metal instruments. The air was thick with the tension of impending disaster. The scarred man had come once before and, through the door, had told them in a stern voice, "Pack up and leave early tomorrow morning." His tone left no room for doubt.

Tomorrow! Old Kane's heart sank to the bottom. No choice, no room for maneuver.

As night fell, the noise in the stronghold did not stop, but instead intensified.

The roar of the engine and the heavy sound of cargo being moved can be faintly heard.

An Zhi was unable to sleep because of the noise outside and tossed and turned in bed. Old Kane could only hold her in his arms and pat her gently, but he himself had no desire to sleep.

"Grandpa...it's so noisy outside."

An Zhi buried his face in the quilt and said sullenly.

"Well, the uncles are working, don't be afraid, kid," old Kane comforted dryly, his ears perked up, catching the movement outside the door.

The whispers of the guards changing shifts outside the door could be heard.

A voice complained, "Damn it! It's the middle of the night, and I still have to keep an eye on these two burdensome bosses. It's really a shame that I have to go to the main city to handle this crap myself."

Another voice lowered its tone, carrying a hint of mystery and excitement: "You know shit! This kid is a precious gem! I heard that the old lame woman's fatal cough was cured by her! Isn't that amazing?"

"Is this true? Is it really that weird?"

"Why would I lie to you? Otherwise, why would the boss personally go to the main city? And specifically instruct him to 'take good care of him'? I guess the boss wants to use this kid as a stepping stone to get in touch with the main city's 'life science and technology' line! A bunch of crazy people in white coats like to study these weird things! If it works, maybe we can get involved too."

"Hiss...this cub..."

"Shh! Keep your voice down! The boss has given instructions, just keep an eye on it and don't ask anything else! Hurry up, go and keep an eye on the loading."

The footsteps gradually faded away.

Inside the door, old Kane, holding An Zhi, was icy cold, as if he had fallen into an icy cave.

He heard clearly that Quinn went to the main city in person to use the cub and her magical abilities as a "stepping stone" to present to the lunatics in the main city who were researching "weird things"! He wanted to use the cub to exchange for "Snake"'s territory in the main city!

"Life Technology"—old Kane had heard of it in his youth. It was a lunatic research organization that toed the line between law and ethics, supposedly specializing in capturing "specimens" with special abilities and conducting brutal experiments. Anyone who fell into their hands would suffer a fate worse than death.

The arms he was holding around An Zhi tightened unconsciously, causing An Zhi to groan in discomfort.

"Grandpa, it hurts." An Zhi raised her little face. She had just vaguely heard the conversation outside the door. She had no idea about the words "precious baby", "stepping stone", and "life science and technology". But the stiffness of her grandfather's body made her feel scared instinctively.

Old Kane suddenly came back to his senses and looked at An Zhi's pure and innocent eyes. His heart felt like it was being torn apart.

He suppressed the fear and anger that was about to burst out, and tried to squeeze out a smile that was uglier than crying, his voice hoarse:

"It's okay, baby, grandpa accidentally hurt you."

He loosened his arms and patted An Zhi's back gently, "Go to sleep, it will be dawn soon if you sleep a little longer."

An Zhi seemed to understand, but her grandfather's comfort made her feel a little more at ease.

Old Kane held An Zhi in his arms, his body shaking slightly uncontrollably.

Can’t go to the main city!

It must not fall into the hands of "Life Technology"!

But how to escape?

There is tight security outside, and Quinn is escorting him personally. Where can he, an old man, escape to with a weak child and a mushroom that has exhausted its power?

Despair was like an icy tide, slowly drowning him. He looked at An Zhi, who had fallen asleep again in his arms, and for the first time, hot tears welled up in his cloudy old eyes.

It’s almost dawn.

The road leading to the main city also leads to hell.

I'm destined to be sleepless tonight.

Late in the night, Quinn arrived.

Old Kane, who had been awake, was awakened.

An Zhi was half asleep when he was taken away by Quinn.

After turning left and right, and making many twists and turns, I entered a room.

She was placed on a high stool.

The surrounding minimalist decoration makes it look like a hospital.

An Zhi glanced at Quinn's expressionless face.

She was very sleepy, but she didn't dare to sleep.

I was afraid that I would be dissected by this boss while I was asleep.

The two of them stared at each other for a long time.

An Zhi noticed something moving on Quinn's cuff.

There was a rustling sound.

Her eyes opened wider and wider, and the moment she saw clearly, she couldn't help crying.

Help! Why is there a snake here?! ! !

Quinn felt a headache when he saw the little girl who suddenly started crying.

"Why are you crying?"

An Zhi raised his hands tremblingly, sobbing and unable to speak.

Quinn was stunned for a moment and raised his right hand.

A black shadow rushed out, took off and stuck to An Zhi's hood.

An Zhi's head felt heavy.

She froze and looked up in disbelief.

That snake... wouldn't... jump onto her head!

Quinn saw that she was in a panic, not knowing what to do with herself.

A beautiful smile finally appeared on his pale and handsome face.

An Zhi: Trembling.

Then her head felt lighter and Quinn took the mushroom off her head.

It was strange, she remembered that mushrooms didn't weigh much.

An Zhi knew it the next second.

A small black snake with beautiful green eyes like emerald was lying on her mushroom!

An Zhi kicked her short legs and immediately wanted to go up and save her mushroom from the water.
