Chapter 16 Very Sad
An Zhi raised his head in confusion.
She obediently slid off the stool, rubbing her small hands on the edge of her clothes, and moved in front of Quinn, her small figure not even reaching his waist.
Quinn turned slightly and motioned her to look at the two big men standing like iron towers.
"Stand up straight."
The two burly men straightened their backs instantly, like puppets being pulled by invisible strings.
An Zhi didn't understand what was going on, so he just imitated subconsciously, trying hard to keep his little body straight.
"Now," Quinn's gaze returned to An Zhi, with a hint of playful inquiry, "walk up to them."
This requirement was not difficult for An Zhi.
She nodded, took short steps, and walked towards the big man closest to her.
One step, two steps... the small figure moved on the empty floor.
Just as she was about to reach the big man, Quinn's voice sounded again, still calmly: "Bump him away."
An Zhi paused.
She raised her head and looked at the muscular man who was like a wall in front of her and was almost three times her size. She then looked back at Quinn, whose little face was full of confusion, "Are you serious?"
"Bump him away."
Quinn repeated it, his tone unchanged, as if he was saying something very ordinary.
He raised the corners of his lips slightly, with an elegant, almost cruel teasing.
"Didn't you say I was the best?"
He looked at her, his bottomless eyes seemed to be filled with undercurrents. "For me, stand up... and go over there."
His voice was low and sweet, like the sound of a cello string, but wrapped in icy edges.
He said the words "for me" lightly, with a kind of bewitching feeling, but also like a cold shackle.
An Zhi’s little face turned pale.
She looked at the "human wall" and then at Quinn's pale, handsome but cold face.
The mushroom light above the head flickered, as if to show the great panic in the owner's heart.
"I...I can't move..."
Her voice was as thin as a mosquito's hum, and her feet seemed to be nailed to the ground.
"Why not?"
Quinn leaned forward slightly, closing the distance.
The cold aura from him instantly enveloped An Zhi, bringing with it invisible pressure.
"I'd be very sad."
His voice became lighter and softer, even carrying a heartbreaking sense of loneliness, as if An Zhi's rejection really broke his heart.
An Zhi was at a loss as to what to do because of his sudden "sadness".
She looked into his deep eyes, and there seemed to be a hint of hurt in them?
Her little heart was filled with confusion: This uncle was so scary, he was clearly forcing her to do something she couldn't do...
But he said he would be sad...
Just as she was hesitating and struggling, the big man who was designated as the "wall" had already started sweating on his forehead.
He didn't dare to move, let alone give way, as the boss's orders were absolute.
But when he looked at the tiny kid in front of him, he was really afraid that she would bump into him and hurt him, and then he would be in big trouble!
He could only desperately retract his heels, trying to make his center of gravity more stable, at least to prevent the little ancestor from bouncing back and falling.
An Zhi didn't notice the big man's little movements.
She took a deep breath, as if she had made up her mind, and clenched her little fists.
In order to prevent this terrible uncle from getting even worse... or even more terrible...
She closed her eyes tightly, and like a cornered animal, she suddenly lowered her head and rushed towards the big man's legs.
The expected sharp pain like hitting a hard plate did not come.
She felt like she had bumped into a thick, warm "wall", and the "wall" seemed to shake the moment she bumped into it.
Then a huge reaction force came!
An Zhi cried out "Ouch!" and his little body fell backward uncontrollably, about to fall on his butt.
She was so scared that she closed her eyes and waited for the pain to come.
However, a hand supported her back steadily and with extreme precision.
The force was not strong, but it was enough to stop her from falling backwards.
An Zhi opened his eyes in shock and found himself half-held in Quinn's arms.
He still had no expression, but the hand that held her up was filled with unquestionable strength.
"Stand firm."
He loosened his grip, his voice emotionless.
An Zhi's face turned red, half out of fear and half out of embarrassment.
She quickly stepped away from his arms and regained her feet, feeling utterly humiliated.
Quinn said nothing, but gestured again: "Come again."
Once, twice, three times...
An Zhi was like a clumsy little penguin. He mustered up the courage to rush forward again and again, but was bounced back by the "wall" again and again. He staggered every time, and every time Quinna held his back at the critical moment to prevent him from falling.
Every time she failed, he would ask her "Why don't you want to?" in that elegant yet slightly bewitching and "sad" tone.
Sweat soaked An Zhi's hair on his forehead, his little face was red and he was panting.
The two big men were in great pain. Their muscles were as tight as stones. They had to try their best to play the role of "wall", and at the same time they had to be on guard all the time not to really knock the little ancestor away. They were extremely nervous and sweating profusely.
I don’t know how many times this has happened.
An Zhi gritted his teeth and rushed forward again.
This time, the moment she bumped into him, the big man's center of gravity was unstable because of his high concentration and slightly slipping feet, and he swayed very slightly. And the force of An Zhi's collision this time was just using all her strength.
"Bang!" A muffled sound.
The big man's body shook, but he stabilized immediately.
But An Zhi was not bounced away!
Her small body actually... held up!
Although it was only a brief stalemate of less than a second, her little face turned red due to the effort and her body was shaking, but she was not immediately bounced back and fell like before.
An Zhi himself was stunned.
She subconsciously retracted her strength and stood up straight.
She turned sharply and looked at Quinn.
Those big eyes, which seemed particularly bright because of the effort, now seemed to be filled with stars, sparkling with incredible surprise.
She even forgot her fear, a pure and brilliant smile bloomed on her face, and her voice was breathless but extremely clear and loud:
"Look! I did it! Look, uncle!"
She excitedly pointed at the "wall" that she had just "shaken", and looked at Quinn eagerly.
"I stopped! I didn't fall! You... don't be sad!"
Her words were innocent and direct, with an urgency to prove herself and dispel the other person's "sadness".
Quinn stood a few steps away, half of his face shrouded in shadow. He looked at the little girl, her eyes sparkling with joy at the smallest of "successes," and saw the unfaithful glow on her face, as she gave her all purely for his "sadness."
He thought idly that when he was her age he had already crawled out of the Colosseum on his own.
