Chapter 22 The Master Also Saw It
Criffin quickly gave orders into the headset.
The probe turned in mid-air, and a blue arc of electricity emerged.
An Zhi widened his eyes, watching his mushroom about to be electrocuted.
She stopped crying and screaming.
This mushroom that was born from her body has been with her since the first day she crossed into this world, making her feel less lonely in this strange world.
No one has ever stayed with her for so long.
Now, her mushrooms are also going to be taken away.
An invisible, chaotic energy suddenly exploded from An Zhi!
Bang! Sizzle!
The screen of the instrument in Researcher B's hand suddenly burst into dazzling sparks!
A cloud of black smoke rose, the outer shell cracked, and several charred fragments flew out and hit the operating table.
The expensive equipment was completely paralyzed.
"Damn it!" Researcher B pulled his hand back suddenly due to the heat, and the cuffs of his expensive white robe were scorched with a few spots.
The indifference on his face was replaced by shock and anger. He pointed at An Zhi and shouted, "Inferior! Uncontrollable! Do you know how much this equipment is worth? Trash like you! You'll never be able to touch it in your lifetime!"
Criffin almost jumped up and down.
That’s 3,000,000 federal coins!
"Criffin." Quinn's voice was like a piece of ice, and his heart was full of surprise.
What just happened was clearly the externalization of mental power.
Others might not be able to notice it, but his own mental level is 2s, and he is very sensitive to mental power. He just clearly caught a trace of fluctuation that only occurs when mental power explodes.
Ever since the emergence of mental power in humans, higher levels have always had extremely strong perception and suppression of lower levels.
During these days together, Mushroom was always outside and was never taken back by An Zhi.
Besides, no matter how you look at it, An Zhi is still far from the age to awaken his spiritual power.
Quinn didn't think much about it and just thought that the mushroom was some kind of treasure.
Thinking about it this way, maybe it is An Zhi's spirit body.
She was clearly not yet at the age of awakening, and hadn't shown any fluctuations in her spiritual power before. What was that resonance before?
Quinn thought for a moment, and then a figure appeared at the door.
Criffin's curses abruptly stopped, his face flushing red before quickly fading. The young master was definitely going to personally punish this disobedient experiment.
Quinn's eyes fell on An Zhi, whose face was pale and breathing heavily, with red marks left by the restraints.
Criffin also followed in, suppressing his anger and saying:
"Master, the target's spirit body is experiencing a strong stress reaction and is refusing contact. The test is unavailable..."
Quinn raised his hand to interrupt him and walked in front of An Zhi.
An Zhi's body stiffened and he turned his head away from him.
Not as rough as expected.
A hand reached out, not touching her, but untying the restraints around her wrists and ankles.
The slight sound of the restraints snapping open was particularly clear in the silent room.
Then, something was gently placed on An Zhi's clenched fist.
Cold and heavy.
It's that dagger.
Quinn's voice was just above her head, emotionless: "Your stuff. Take it. Try it again like you did just now."
Try again? Try what?
An Zhi's mind was in a mess.
Quinn casually pulled Researcher B over.
"He just did that to you... and he still wants to bully your mushroom, right?"
"Don't you want to protect yourself?"
Quinn's voice was soft, like a brightly colored venomous snake gently coaxing its prey to offer its neck to fate.
An Zhi's fingers trembled. Quinn held her hand, put it on the dagger, wrapped it around her and held the handle of the dagger tightly.
Quinn took a step back, his eyes never leaving An Zhi's hand holding the dagger, his eyes were terrifyingly focused.
"Begin recording."
The positions were reversed, and Researcher B was secured to the chair with restraints.
An Zhi stood in front of him, holding a dagger that was only slightly higher than his calf.
Griffin operated the backup equipment, which emitted a beeping sound.
Just then—
The metal floor beneath my feet arched upward violently!
The alarm instantly tore through the air, and the light tubes on the ceiling crackled and exploded.
"Warning, warning, warning, Zerg invasion, estimated danger level C+, please quickly evacuate the residents of G-725. Please quickly evacuate the residents of G-725..."
Everyone was stunned.
The next second, Quinn rushed forward and pulled An Zhi to roll on the ground.
Crash! Boom—!!!
The reinforced glass wall and metal floor on the right shattered like paper, sending shards of stone, metal, and glass flying everywhere.
The air was filled with smoke and dust, and a huge and ferocious black shadow broke through the dust.
It was a dark-colored beetle about one meter long, with its huge sickle covered in mud and mucus raised high, its serrated mouthparts hissing, and its compound eyes moving.
It had just failed in its sneak attack on An Zhi, and it twisted its body and looked at everyone with ill intent.
"hiss--"
Criffin sat slumped, his glasses askew, his mouth open, and a thousand alpacas running through his mind.
Although it was only a C-level Zerg, it was far from threatening them.
But why did they choose to invade today?
He built the research institute fifty meters underground, and the protection on top is so tight that even a hundred insects cannot get in.
How did this one find a different way to dig in? Aren't these kinds of digging sickle bugs rare?
It’s over, it’s over. The young master saw it, and my performance this year is in jeopardy!
Quinn's face was as gloomy as water.
He glanced at An Zhi, who was crying and hiccuping, with a pale face and tears welling up in his eyes that looked like they were about to fall at any moment.
Several teams of guards rushed in quickly and were about to open fire.
"No! My data! My sample!"
A gray-haired researcher cried and rushed towards a main control console that was hit by rubble and had a flashing alarm.
"Don't do it! The data inside is priceless! This is just a low-level Zerg, we can capture it for research." He opened his arms to block the instrument.
"Boss!" One of Quinn's men pointed at the trapped sickle worm excitedly, with greed in his eyes.
"A special type of burrowing sickle worm. Its shell and acid are highly sought after on the black market! Capture it alive!"
He called his companions and was about to go forward to capture them.
The sickleworm swept across with one of its hind legs.
The precision analyzer was swept away and exploded against the wall.
"ah--!"
The researcher who was unable to dodge nearby was scratched on the arm by the flying debris and blood was flowing.
Griffin scrambled and rolled under the console, his face aching, his mind consumed by the burning budget. "You useless idiots! Stay behind and clean up the mess. Clear all clues." Quinn's face darkened.
It's too noisy, we can't stay here anymore.
He picked up the frightened An Zhi, picked up a mushroom that had rolled over at some point, and rushed to an emergency door that had slid open in the corner of the room.
Passing through the deep corridor, the elevator shook violently as it ascended.
The door is open.
The pungent smell of gunpowder and dust hit my face.
The deafening sound of explosions, the roar of collapsing buildings, the hissing of Zerg and the screams of the crowd merged into one.
Quinn stood at the exit of the base holding An Zhi.
The ground before me collapsed in places, thick smoke billowing. Buildings collapsed, the streets in ruins. Low-level Zerg swarmed and ravaged the ruins. Gangs of armed men, perched on the rubble, opened fire, their bullet tracers streaking through the dust.
Fortunately, the order on the garbage planet had been in chaos for many years, and most of those who survived had some skills. There were not many casualties, and the crowd fled in chaos.
Quinn's face became even colder. Holding An Zhi in his arms, he quickly walked through the streets. He was going to a more solid protection center on the other side of the city.
The explosion created a gust of air not far away.
Quinn turned sideways and used his back to block the flying debris.
An Zhi shuddered violently in his arms, and the tears she had been holding back finally fell, splashing on Quinn's black cashmere coat.
Her little face was pale, and her eyes were attracted by a relatively intact shop window on the street.
There was a brightly colored ice cream poster inside, which stood out against the ruins.
Some people broke down doors and looted supplies, while others tried in vain to maintain order.
Quinn looked down, noticing her gaze and the tear marks on her face, and paused.
He held An Zhi in his arms and quickly dodged to a corner outside the shop that was blocked by a half-broken wall to avoid stray bullets.
He carefully placed An Zhi on the ground, squatted down, and almost completely covered her with his tall body, looking straight into her tearful and frightened eyes.
He pointed at the shop, his voice unusually clear amidst the noise:
"Wait here obediently and don't run around."
He pointed to the largest ice cream cone on the poster, covered in rainbow syrup. "I'll get you that one."
Quinn shoved the mushroom into her arms. "I'll be back soon, okay? And then we'll get out of here."
An Zhi nodded with tears in her eyes.
Quinn gave her a long look, turned around, and squeezed into the crowd surrounding the shop.
An Zhi huddled in the shadow of the corner of the broken wall. The sound of the explosion made her shiver continuously, and tears silently slid down her face.
**
"Don't be afraid."
A sound like snow falling into a stream came from above, penetrating the surrounding noise:
