Chapter 9 Catch her!

Chapter 9 Catch her!

There are many more bubbles than before, more than a dozen in total.

They were like a group of disturbed fireflies, floating around without any pattern, like a small piece of light in the dim and noisy market.

Most of the bubbles swayed and floated towards an old woman who was coughing incessantly, gently clinging to her violently heaving chest, painfully twisted face and dry arms.

A miracle happened.

The heart-wrenching, seemingly endless coughing suddenly stopped.

The old woman took a deep breath, and her voice was no longer hoarse, but a much smoother breathing.

The hideous expression of pain on her face was immediately replaced by a look of disbelief and bewilderment. Her pale face flushed with a faint blush at a visible speed, and a hint of life appeared in her cloudy eyes.

She took a few more breaths, somewhat dazedly and tentatively, and the pain disappeared.

"Mom? Mom! What's wrong with you?" The middle-aged man next to him was stunned, and then burst into ecstatic shouts.

The hawking and quarreling stopped abruptly.

Everyone who saw this scene, whether it was a stall owner or a passerby, seemed to be under a spell.

Countless eyes were focused on An Zhi.

To be more precise, the focus was on the hood that was slowly falling over her head.

The hood slipped off, revealing An Zhizhang's tear-stained, worried little face, and the little white mushroom on her head that had just sprayed bubbles!

"Oh my god! What is that?"

"Bubble?!"

"The old cripple has stopped coughing! Honey! It's a miracle!"

"Mushroom! It's a bubble sprayed by a mushroom!"

"It's a cub! A mushroom on her head!"

The dead silence lasted less than two seconds before a louder, fanatical and greedy wave of noise erupted.

The crowd was like water into which a stone had been thrown, and it instantly began to boil.

"Get her! Get that kid and the mushroom!"

"A treasure that can cure diseases! It's worth a lot of money!"

"Don't let her get away!"

Several people who were nearby immediately pounced on them like hungry wolves. They didn't care whether it was a miracle or not. This was a chance to get rich overnight.

Old Kane was terrified. He hugged An Zhi back into his arms, protecting him tightly with his hunched body, while his other hand desperately tried to pull up his hood to cover the little mushroom!

"Get out of here! Get out of here!"

Old Kane roared at the top of his lungs, like a mad old lion, waving his thin arms to try to stop the people who were rushing towards him.

But the other side was outnumbered and powerful, and they were about to be caught.

"Grandpa!" An Zhi screamed in fear of the sudden crazy scene.

At this moment, a rough voice rang out like thunder: "Stop it, everyone!"

The crowd was shocked by the sound and stopped moving.

I saw the scarred man and a few of his men walking towards me quickly with a gloomy look on their faces.

His eyes swept across the chaotic scene and finally stopped at An Zhi, who was in old Kane's arms with a small mushroom on his head.

He was nearby just now and witnessed the whole process of the magic bubble healing the old lame woman. He also saw the crowd's instant madness. This kid and the mushroom on her head were no longer simply "rare things", but the source of a riot.

It would be a huge trouble if such a thing happened in the area under his jurisdiction.

"Boss! Brother! Mushroom!"

A gangster who wanted to capture An Zhi was eager to explain.

"Shut up!"

The scarred man interrupted him harshly, his fierce gaze sweeping over the few people who were about to make a move. "From now on, this kid and the thing on her head are my 'guests'! If anyone dares to have any evil thoughts again, I'll chop off his hands first!"

He no longer paid attention to the confused crowd, and walked straight to An Zhi, who was being protected by old Kane, and squatted down.

He tried hard to create a less scary expression, but the fat on his face made it counterproductive.

He looked at the small, white, warm, and peaceful mushroom on An Zhi's head, then looked at An Zhi's eyes filled with tears of fear. He lowered his voice, but with a harsh command:

"Old man, take your cub and follow me. Now."

**

An Zhi walked up to a low alloy building.

The Snake's stronghold in the fringe area.

The smell of blood and the sound of whipping rushed out the moment the animal skin curtain was lifted.

In the dim room, a man was tied to a chair, his naked upper body covered in bloodstains. A muscular thug was wielding a short whip with barbs and whipping him hard!

“Bang!”

“Ugh—!”

The dull crack of the whip and the painful groan were like a heavy hammer hitting An Zhi's young heart. She suddenly huddled in Old Kane's arms, her small body stiff and cold.

The faint glow of the small mushroom in its hood had completely vanished, its pale white body appearing much dimmer than usual. The warm, tranquil waves it emanated had become extremely weak and intermittent, like a candle in the wind. It seemed to have exhausted its strength, fallen into a state of weakness akin to "hibernation."

Quinn turned around, revealing a pale yet overly handsome face. If he were walking around outside, it would be hard to associate him with the Snake's boss.

He walked slowly, his leather boots making a heart-pounding sound on the blood-stained floor.

The strong smell of blood and the painful groans were like tangible fear, strangling An Zhi's throat.

Pure fear instantly overwhelmed An Zhi.

She couldn't help but tremble, her eyes widened like a cat's, her pupils contracted, and tears flowed silently.

She wanted to scream, but her throat seemed blocked, and she could only let out faint, broken sobs. The small mushroom on her head weakly emitted intermittent and weak waves, trying to comfort her, but it was a drop in the bucket.

Quinn walked closer and looked down at the frightened little thing.

He saw a pair of amber eyes filled with tears, as if they had been ravaged by a rainstorm, and saw the purest, unadulterated fear and despair in them.

He glanced at the pale white spot under her hood—

The source of the legendary "miracle" seemed to have run out of power at this moment.

The beaten man continued to groan in pain, and the whip was raised again.

At this suffocating moment, An Zhi didn't know where he got the courage from. He suddenly raised his head from Old Kane's arms and used all his strength to shout at the thug who was about to be whipped. He uttered a cry, a broken voice, and full of pleading:

"No! Don't hit him! Uncle, he's bleeding and it hurts, please stop hitting him!"

Her voice trembled with fear, but it rang out with extraordinary clarity in the bloody room.

Tears in her eyes, full of pleading.

He didn't look at Quinn, but directly looked at a thug with a ferocious face holding a whip!

The thug's movement stopped in mid-air.

Those eyes were pleading and pure as crystal.

He had seen countless pleading and fearful eyes, but he had never seen such pure, direct, childlike compassion and pleading eyes.

Quinn's pupils shrank.

He saw the fleeting stiffness and hesitation on the thug's face, and saw him subconsciously avoid his eyes.
