Brother and sister

Brother and sister

Tan Songqi walked with Lu Cangyue along the way, occasionally saying a few words to him.

"How are you?"

Tan Songqi stopped and looked at her with a faint smile, "What do you mean, sister?"

Anyone with a keen eye could tell what she was referring to. Tan Songqi was clearly unwilling to answer. After walking for a while, he seemed to have figured it out on his own and stopped again to watch her speak.

"My father's crime is now a done deal, and I feel relieved. I don't see any point in hurting animals anymore. When I think about it, I'm in this state entirely because of what happened that night seven years ago. Thank you, sister, for helping me find the rabbit, but..." Tan Songqi lowered his brows in thought, "After all these years, it's still the same as it was then. Isn't that strange, sister?"

This? Lu Cangyue didn't think too much about it. If she took the rabbit back after seven years, it would surely have moldered and rotted. How could it still fulfill someone's regret?

"It doesn't matter. I won't tell anyone." Tan Songqi thought of something else and said, feeling helpless or gloating, "There's a drop of blood on this rabbit. It belongs to a man named Hui Zifeng. He sent someone to investigate, so I have to cooperate. So, sister, if you have any secrets, you'd better be careful!"

What did he know? Lu Cangyue felt a chill at these words. Are all modern people so clever? He immediately saw through her uniqueness. The rabbit and the murder weapon were placed together. Later, she learned that someone had dug up the murder weapon, but she didn't expect that person to be Hui Zifeng. Could it be the Hui Zifeng she was looking for? But what did Tan Songqi mean when he said there was Hui Zifeng's blood on the rabbit? When was it dripped there? When did these two become involved?

"How on earth do you remember me?" Everything else was no longer important. She hoped to learn from this person how to make others remember her so that she would not forget important things.

After listening to her, Tan Songqi paused, remaining silent for two seconds. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, his eyes flickering twice, as if he had thought of something good. He pulled a knife from his sleeve, watched Cang Yue take a step back, and with a smile as if his trick had succeeded, he stepped forward and gave her a chase. He slashed his palm hard, and blood immediately flowed out. "Sister, have you forgotten this? You left bloodstains, and those fools said you were a weird person! You know, everything on you is evidence. Be more careful next time."

"How did you know?" This really scared her. The sight of the blood flowing out made her feel uncomfortable, and she turned around and vomited. While vomiting, she patted her chest and comforted herself, "Don't be afraid, it's okay. Don't be afraid!"

"Sister, why are you so fragile and still going out on your own, sister?" Tan Songqi used his bleeding hand to support her, but Cang Yue instantly restrained him, helped him stop the bleeding, and tore a piece of cloth from her clothes to wrap the wound. Cang Yue grasped the remaining piece of cloth in her hand and pulled him back, "Let's go find a hospital and treat the wound."

She couldn't move Tan Songqi. When she turned around, the young man looked at the piece of cloth in his hand with a sad face, "No one welcomes someone like me. Sister, I have something else to do. Please accompany me."

She guessed he was up to no good, and taking advantage of his unpreparedness, she quickly subdued his other hand, forcing him to return with her. She leaned forward, but unexpectedly, Tan Songqi used the cloth that bound their hands to pull, and Cang Yue was flung out, her body bent backward, with only her toes touching the ground.

Below is a sheer cliff, hundreds of meters high. This area was originally intended to be a landfill, but for some unknown reason it was abandoned. Beneath it lies a mass of construction debris.

"I won't hurt you, sister. Don't worry." Tan Songqi said this, then took out his knife and gently scratched the cloth, splitting the five-centimeter-wide strip in half. "I just want you to listen to me. Do you want me to pull you over?"

He stretched out his hand and said in a fake tone. He could have pulled her back, but this person deliberately teased her like this.

"Think about your grandparents, they are old and need care."

"Can someone like me still live well?" Tan Songqi secretly exerted force with his hands, and the strip of cloth he pulled made a tearing sound, but Lu Cangyue fell back a few inches.

"There are so many people who have committed countless evil deeds, and they all live shamelessly. You made a mistake, but there's a saying that admitting one's mistakes and correcting them is the greatest virtue, don't you know? As long as you reform yourself, one day you will be able to experience the happiness of being alive."

"What about you?" Tan Songqi immediately responded with an expectant expression on his face.

He waited for her to answer. If it was the right answer, one fate awaited her; if it was the wrong answer, another. He seemed to care nothing for his own life, so the idea that someone like him who had done wrong didn't deserve to live wasn't sincere at all. Lu Cangyue found it strange, but she couldn't imagine why he was like this.

"Me?" Cang Yue thought carefully, her mind filled with only the things written on the walls of the cave. If she had to make a mistake, she hadn't made one yet this time here! But this person definitely didn't want that answer right now. She had reached her limit in maintaining this position, her arms trembling, the cloth strips tearing, and she only had seconds left before she fell. "Are you prepared for me to fall and die, Tan Songqi!"

Tan Songqi was stunned by the question and was about to withdraw his hand, but Zang Yue had already pulled him up and used the force to turn over and jump back to the ground. In contrast, Tan Songqi was pulled down, but Zang Yue grabbed his hand in time.

It was more reassuring to control one's own destiny. She was content with her current situation, but she couldn't let her guard down. The cliff had plenty of footholds, making climbing up easy. She assumed Tan Songqi had learned his lesson and would ask her for help in getting him up.

Tan Songqi's proud thoughts came to an abrupt end as he smiled. He reached out with his other hand and grabbed the hand that Zang Yue was holding.

"Don't let go! Tan Songqi, come up first and talk!" She was anxious. This was not good.

Tan Songqi didn't want to shake her hand off, but to pull her down with him to face the underworld together. Lu Cangyue didn't expect that she would not be able to withstand his strength, and finally fell down with him.

At that moment, a cat leaped out from the fourth floor of the abandoned building. It flashed by in a flash of black mist before rising into the air and dissipating. The man with it walked into the light, glanced down, covered his eyes with his hands, and sighed weakly. "Why are you in such a hurry? Didn't we have an agreement?"

When he picked up the cat, walked to the edge of the cliff and looked down, his heart sank and he said aloud, "It's over!" He glanced at the cat in his arms and silently covered its eyes.

Two people lay at the bottom of the cliff. One was Tan Songqi, the other, naturally, Lu Cangyue. Shuixi approached the bodies, having already tucked the unconscious cat into his arms. He leaned over slightly. Tan Songqi was still breathing, spitting blood. A sharp rock had nearly pierced his right chest, and one of his legs had been severed at the knee.

Lu Cangyue landed on top of Tan Songqi, her body intact, though no longer breathing. Shuixi knelt beside her, watching the scene, unsure what to think. He couldn't believe it. Why hadn't she left in time? She could have… why? At that moment, he knew clearly that he didn't want her to die.

Actually, their hatred wasn't deadly. Now, what should he do? He didn't know. As a great divine beast that had lived for thousands of years, he didn't know what to do. After all the years he'd been through, from the moment she'd barged into the temple on that rainy night to the moment he'd watched her being dragged down, he hated himself for being so arrogant. How was he supposed to explain this to the young master?

He trembled, straightened his upper body, and stretched out his hands, laughing at himself for forgetting that he didn't need to fear death, while a chill gradually grew inside him. He also forgot that holding on to this state and situation had exhausted him greatly, and it seemed impossible to bring back the dead. But fortunately, wasn't there still a surviving evil spirit beside him?

"Who are you?"

Shuixi, who had buried her head in the ground, was suddenly awakened from her grief at the sound. Her eyes rolled back, and she quickly withdrew her hands from the corpse. She slowly raised her head to look at Lu Cangyue, who had just been a corpse. Her eyes widened, still lying on Tan Songqi's body. A little frightened, Shuixi cautiously reached out to touch her. "How are you? Are you hurt?"

It would be troublesome if I needed to go to the hospital.

Zang Yue sat up and looked at the death of Tan Songqi in front of him. He was a little confused and asked Shui Xi again, "Who are you?"

So she's already back from evacuation. Is it so fast this time? Shuixi wondered. Does she really not remember anything?

"You don't know me, but do you know him?" Shuixi pointed at the dead Tan Songqi and asked tentatively, "And Hui Zifeng, have you heard of him? And Yunsheng Palace... do you remember it? What about Chaolai Pavilion? I don't remember any of it... So do you remember Lu Cangyue's name?"

She thought for a moment and then asked, "It's me? What's in your arms?"

Shuixi became alert and offered her the He'an, but Zangyue didn't take it. She looked at it calmly and said, "This is my He'an."

"Yes, what else?" Shuixi encouraged her to continue, "What else? What else do you remember?"

"Who are you? Why are you asking so many questions?" Zang Yue asked back, his face full of vigilance.

"Alright, alright, you must not remember anything after falling from such a height." Shuixi stretched out his hand, but it froze in mid-air. Zang Yue looked at him quietly, without a trace of thought on her face. She was confused and felt unfamiliar and scared about all this. His hand still fell on her head, and he smiled comfortingly, "Alright, it's okay. I...Brother will take you home."

"Are you my brother?" Zang Yue asked, "Are you my real brother? Why are you here? Do you know what's going on?"

The clues about her relatives in her memories were vague. She seemed to have two brothers, but neither of them looked as scary as he did.

"No." Shuixi helped her up and patted the dirt off her body, his eyes dodging when he looked at her. "Before, you were wandering on the streets, and my family brought you back. I became your brother and you became my sister. Do you understand?"

This man had a scary face, but he treated her with extreme tenderness. Zang Yue couldn't find any reason to be suspicious.

"Then why am I here? What happened?" Zang Yue looked at the man lying on the ground with regret. The rabbit in his breast pocket had its head poked out, as if it was sitting and greeting them. One of the rabbit's eyes was made of a button, and where the other eye was was a drop of dried blood. "He's dead. Brother, I heard him tell me that he didn't want to die."

"Don't think too much, sister. You're the victim. Don't talk about the past anymore. It'll make me sad. Let's go home." Shuixi's eyes moistened in response. She lifted her arm and pulled her forward. "It's so good for me that you're okay, you know?"

"I remember him crying and telling me he didn't want to die." Zang Yue refused to give up and was dragged forward, so she had no choice but to jog to keep up. "I still remember when I heard that, I was thinking, why is my thought different from before?"

Shuixi glanced at her legs and feet, which had some scratches on their skin. With a solemn expression, he answered her question, "People are always resolute when they decide to die. They regret it when they're really about to die, but by then it's too late. Okay, let's talk about it when we get back. Can you walk? Do you want me... do you want your brother to carry you?"

Zang Yue pondered for two seconds, then opened his arms. Shui Xi's icy expression suddenly melted, and he turned around with a smile, leaning down to wait for her to jump on his back, and walked away into the sunshine. Zang Yue swung his legs back and forth, resting his chin on Shui Xi's shoulder, and spoke to him, "Isn't this too scary?"

"What did you say?" He was asking something horrible.

"But I don't seem to be that scared. Brother isn't scared either." Zang Yue tilted her head to look at Shui Xi's profile. "Why? By the way, brother, what's your name? What's my name? Where do we live?"

"My name is Shuixi." He waited for the person on his back to answer, and heard her say, "Shuixi? What a strange name! But I like it. Shuixi Shuixi, it sounds very gentle."

“It’s a place name.”

"Why a place name? Were you born there?"

"I guess so."

"Then do you know why my little animal is called He'an?"

"Why?"

"Haven't I told you that before?"

"I told you, I forgot." He hadn't forgotten, but he was worried that she was testing him. "Sister, can you change your old name?"

"Okay, I think it's unlucky too. So what should we change it to? Your last name is Shui, so I'll follow yours. What should I be called? Brother, please help me choose a name. From today on, I'm reborn!"

"Just call me Fang Zhou."

"How is it written?"

"I'll tell you when I get back."
