Call the shots

Call the shots

"kind!"

Before Hui Zifeng fainted, the only thing left in his mind was Shuixi's sudden call. He still remembered that he was puzzled and thinking about something after hearing Feng Liang's words, but he could not remember what Feng Liang said.

The light in the tunnel shifted in an unnatural pattern, a fleeting moment in the memories of others. The power supply remained unchanged, but the light was quickly obscured by some black substance.

Song Shiwen fell to the ground with a thud. The doctors, nurses and Song Shiwen's family members all went over to see him.

Fang Zhou wanted to but was powerless and could not struggle at all.

Shuixi looked at her, as if he knew the situation very well.

"You guys..." She didn't even have the strength to utter a word as a strong sense of sleepiness overtook her. Fang Zhou understood that Shuixi was not an ordinary person. He and He'ai had an inseparable relationship, which was why He'ai listened to him.

Who else in the world would He'an listen to? She had forgotten everything, so she had no way of guessing.

When she woke up from her deep sleep, she found herself lying in a small Japanese-style room. The air was filled with a certain depressing aroma. Outside the window, branches were lush and the distant mountains could be seen between the layers of leaves.

She wanted to open the window and take in the unfamiliar scenery, but she found that the window was not locked but remained motionless. She looked around the room, intending to find a handy tool to smash the glass, but the room was empty except for the bed.

Fang Zhou raised her hand, clenched her fist, and smashed it against the glass. Some invisible force blocked her from contact, preventing her from getting hurt. It was indeed a force that shouldn't exist in this world. Only He'an understood. Thinking of this, she naturally recalled the events before she fell into a coma.

Shuixi. Who is he?

Fang Zhou was just about to push the door open when it opened from the outside, revealing a young, beautiful face. The boy wore a standard smile, diligently serving his master.

"Madam, you don't have to go out. Just tell me if you need anything."

The boy was wearing a white shirt and a black suit, which made his figure look tall and straight. However, after entering the room, he had to keep his head down and his back slightly arched forward to accommodate his height.

Fang Zhou couldn't help but think, "It looks a lot like Shuixi." But Shuixi's fierce face wasn't as pretty as this one.

"Who are you?"

The young man looked to be in his early twenties, with fair, smooth skin and a radiant spirit. He seemed to brighten anyone's day. He found a low table and set the table with the meal he had just brought. Four dishes and a soup, serving one person, looked delicious, and the aromas of it tempted Fang Zhou's appetite, but she wasn't in the mood to eat.

Who is Shuixi? Where did he take her? What does he want to do? These questions are related to her safety.

The boy didn't answer immediately, so Fang Zhou asked again, "What's your name?"

The boy then turned around and looked at Fang Zhou, his eyes revealing a mischievous expression of a familiar friend deliberately teasing her, "Don't you recognize me?"

"Should I know you?" Fang Zhou didn't respond to his gentleness and politeness, her tone full of aggression. She stared at the boy and slowly backed away. "Where is this place? Where is Shuixi? Where is He'ai?"

The boy refused to answer. Fang Zhou understood, stepped out, quickly closed the door, and locked it. She began searching for an exit, every possible way to the outside world. Fang Zhou darted around the house like a headless fly. Every door and window, like the bedroom she had just woken up in, was sealed by an invisible force. There was no way she could leave the house.

"I am kind! My sister Zang Yue."

The voice came from behind Fang Zhou first. She still couldn't remember who would speak to her like that. Then, she turned around and saw the boy sitting on the balcony railing.

She couldn't get out, but this boy easily got out. What does this mean? He and Shuixi are in cahoots. He said he was kind?!

"What is Shuixi trying to do by trapping me here?" Fang Zhou calmed down, also disappointed with the situation. Her kindness, her kindness, had become an accomplice to Shuixi.

"The Luoshen Pearl can no longer protect you, sister. He said you can stay and we will protect you. Sister, please stay here with peace of mind."

"You received his favor." That's why he was able to take human form. "This favor must have come from deprivation. If you are kind, whose life did you and he deprive together?"

He was kind and silent. He knew what he was doing was wrong, but when he was at the end of his rope and about to starve to death, Shuixi brought him food. He wanted to live, and he wanted his master to live too. After so many years of wandering, he no longer wanted to continue living like this.

"Is it Song Shiwen?" In Fang Zhou's current memory, only Song Shiwen was about to die. "He'an, let me out, I don't want Song Shiwen to die."

"He is not the descendant of the young master." The kind-hearted man was a little listless, his tone was extremely slow, and he was accidentally overtaken by Fang Zhou.

"Of course I know. Ji Qing is dead. He no longer exists. Even if there is a descendant of his, it is someone else, not Ji Qing. I want to save Song Shiwen, not for anything else, but because I have the ability to save him."

"The Luoshen Pearl has been destroyed."

Looking at He'ai's calm, yet somewhat depressed expression, Fang Zhou knew without further ado that Shuixi must have been the one to destroy the Luoshen Pearl. He'ai and Shuixi were a pair of guardian beasts, and they had been together for hundreds of years longer than she and He'ai had. How could she possibly compare to the affection they shared?

There is no distinction between good and evil among house-guarding beasts, and they don’t talk about feelings. Their only priority is duty.

She still remembered that He Ai was a defector who gave up his duty to protect the Hui family. So the people who were guarding Shuixi now were the descendants of the Hui family, that is, the descendants of Hui Jiqing.

What relationship did she still have with the Hui family? Fang Zhou sighed helplessly. There was no reason to suddenly be there when she had never returned. Everything no longer existed, and she had to accept this fact. Hui Jiqing's bloodline had been passed down for thousands of years, and she had also been attracted to a man who liked her thousands of years later. So what?

"The Luoshen Pearl is a symbol of the Hui family's power. How could he do that?" The loyal guardians began to draw their swords. Shuixi was not a human being. Even if he suspected betrayal from a loved one, he couldn't help but believe that the guardian beast would destroy his master's house. In Fang Zhou's memory, this was a thought.

"He was also the one who destroyed Yunsheng Palace, sister. Shuixi doesn't distinguish between good and evil and has long forgotten his mission."

"What about you? Now you're on his side."

The gentle answer was unspoken: "We will bear the consequences. I hope you will be happy." This is the young master's wish.

In the hospital, Song Shiwen opened his eyes and opened his mouth, trying to speak, but no words came out. He gasped violently, and only his family and a few helpless doctors were making a final struggle. Black blood flowed from his mouth in streams. Even without the doctor's diagnosis, Song Shiwen's mother knew that her child was about to die.

She couldn't accept it, and rushed straight to Feng Liang from the chaos, repeatedly questioning, "Didn't you say my son would get better? Why? Why? How can he get better?"

Feng Liang felt no sympathy or empathy for the situation. He was like a passerby, watching the excitement with indifference.

"Please help me see if my child can be saved now? Please!"

She knew the answer was no, but she was unwilling to accept this fact.

"He'll be fine."

After Feng Liang finished speaking, he felt that he had lied.

Meanwhile, Hui Zifeng's condition wasn't looking good either. The Hui family's doctor couldn't find anything wrong with him, and could only say that Hui Zifeng's sudden collapse was caused by emotional distress.

"His heart is starting to have problems." After all the strangers in the ward were sent away, the doctor said to Shuixi.

The Hui family has had this heart condition for generations. Ever since the physician's grandfather began working for the family, the cause remains unclear, whether it's genetic or environmental. Despite the rapid advancements in medicine both domestically and internationally, the cause remains unknown. The current head of the family, Hui Zifeng's father, has kept the condition a family secret, pursuing only treatment options regardless of the underlying cause.

Shuixi is one of the people who knew about it.

"I'll have my secretary notify Mr. and Mrs. Hui," Shuixi said. "I'll take care of him from now on. Don't let anyone else get close."

The secretary stood outside the special ward, watching Shuixi through the window. Did he look like someone he was supposed to be caring for? Shuixi stood by the bed, looking sideways at Hui Zifeng, maintaining the same posture for nearly twenty minutes.

What could possibly have enabled such a young outsider to earn Mr. and Mrs. Hui's trust? He was closer to the Hui family than by blood, highly educated, capable, and handling the Hui family's affairs like a nanny. What could possibly make him inferior to Shui Xi? Could the Hui family's secret be connected to Shui Xi?

"How is he?"

The secretary was so focused that he didn't notice the approaching person. He was slightly startled, but when he saw that the person speaking was Shuixi's boarding house owner, he replied gently and politely, "With Shuixi taking care of me, there won't be any major problems. However..."

The secretary frowned. Even if the person was close to Shuixi and Hui Zifeng's safety was at stake, they shouldn't be let in casually.

"What?" Ming Yan realized what the other party wanted to say, but pretended not to understand and forced the other party to speak out.

"Nothing, I still have work to do, so I'll take my leave now."

The secretary was the best at observing people's expressions and guessing Ming Yan's inner thoughts. He swallowed the "reminder" that was on the tip of his tongue and left with an excuse. Anyway, if anything happened next, it would be Shui Xi's fault and had nothing to do with him.

Shuixi didn't look out the window, but he knew the secretary, who had second thoughts, had already left. He wondered if the secretary would regret what had happened tonight tomorrow.

Everything was under his control. In this ordinary world, he hid in the shadows, disguised as a human, yet did things that ordinary humans could not do. He enjoyed this feeling of control, even over the young master's evil spirit.

It was Song Shiwen who should have died—along with the young master's evil spirit, He'ai swallowed him whole and tore him to pieces, leaving nothing behind. Perhaps it was He'ai's lack of skill, or perhaps the evil spirit was too powerful, but he managed to escape.

He escaped into Hui Zifeng's body. Shui Xi looked at him, recalling everything that had happened since he came into the world, and thinking about how he would feel if he destroyed the young master and his descendants.
