Catacombs

Catacombs

"But Xiaolu, he's not the one you liked at first."

"I've forgotten all about those things. What does it matter who he is? I know that he became what he is now completely out of misfortune, just like... is it the same fate that made me what I am now? He'an, you don't understand. It doesn't matter why I did this. He deserves to live a good life more than I do. His mother is very sad, isn't she?"

He Ai didn't understand. So Lu Cangyue said, "You'd be happier if you were a little kitten running wild. Go find him, and help me get the Luoshen Pearl back."

It sounded like she was trying to drive him away, but He'ai still didn't understand. After settling her down, he came to the hospital, found Shuixi, and took back the Luoshen Pearl. However, the Luoshen Pearl that had changed Cangyue's fate no longer existed.

Shuixi was also seriously injured by Tiema Guanhua, who had been integrated into the Luoshen Pearl. They all seemed to have the same idea.

He Ai didn't know what to do. The thunder in the clear sky continued in the distance, but his attention was now drawn to a figure.

The dusk was bleak, and his silhouette was even more bleak.

He'an recalled the past and couldn't recover from it for a long time.

The man dragged his body, which looked like a rotten puppet, and each step he took was extremely difficult, as if the body would fall apart if he exerted a little more force.

Their last meeting was when He Ai watched the young master walking along the long mountain road. Alone, he had abandoned Yunsheng Palace and his responsibilities, willing to sacrifice his life to save someone.

Everyone believed that this young master would be even more outstanding in the future and bring benefits to the people. However, one late autumn night, the night before he took office, held the Baili Autumn Festival, and was about to start his grand career, he secretly gave up such a life.

A benign, massive black figure enveloped Song Shiwen. He froze for a moment, then continued walking without stopping. His health was so poor that the thought of not being able to see that person in person intensified the pain in his chest. He didn't have time to worry about being targeted by a villain.

Like a kind and cheerful broom, she threw herself in front of Song Shiwen. The street light shone down just above their heads, so they could see each other clearly.

Song Shiwen didn't recognize him and smiled brightly, "What can I do for you?"

"I know you're going to look for Lu Zangyue."

Song Shiwen was alert, "Who are you?"

He kindly raised his hand and gently touched Song Shiwen's chest, and the two people's state was balanced a little. Song Shiwen immediately felt much better and cheerful. He was about to express his gratitude, but then he remembered that the culprit who had caused him to be in such a terrible state was not this inhuman creature.

He knew. There was always a saying among the old people that when a person is about to die, they see things that are not of this world. He saw it while he was underwater.

"Are you the cat next to the deer?" Song Shiwen speculated. He was half sure that his guess was correct.

"Who are you?" A kind look acknowledged that Song Shiwen was right.

Song Shiwen also felt distressed by this question. He seemed to be a different person. He knew exactly what he was like before; he hated giving too much emotion to one person. But now, he had done so many self-inflicted wounds for that girl. He couldn't control himself. He knew clearly that he should cut his losses, but the desire in his heart went against his brain's command.

"I don't know." Song Shiwen spoke truthfully, his obedience completely unlike his old self. "It seems like there's another person in my mind. Suddenly, I miss her very much. I want to go find her. Are you here to block my way?"

"Xiaolu is also trying to save you." He Ai squatted down and motioned him to climb onto his back. "If you go over like this, I'm afraid she will be dead before you even see her."

He said the same thing that night thousands of years ago.

The young master has been a frail person since childhood. He caught a cold those days and it took a long time to recover. He coughed up blood every day and almost broke his bones.

Little Deer, Little Deer, anyone can call her that now.

The era they lived in has long passed, so now they don't know how to find their place in this world. He'ai doesn't understand. If the former young master came back, it would be great, but Shuixi and Xiaolu don't think so.

"If I don't see her, could you give her a message for me?"

How abominable! The young master said the same thing thousands of years ago.

He Ai's heart suddenly became choked with anxiety, and he repeated what he had said before, "I will let you see her alive."

Thunder roared from the clear sky. The gates of Chaolai Temple were charred black, and everywhere the eye could see was ruins. Houses collapsed, trees were destroyed, and the air was filled with the smell of burning smoke.

Song Shiwen found it strange. Chaolai Pavilion wasn't tucked away in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by residential buildings, how could there be no sign of movement when things were like this? Based on past experience, the area would have been completely surrounded by people, requiring a dedicated team to clear the area.

At this moment, the bright, round moon still hung in the sky, and lightning was still streaking down, but it was impossible to tell where it would land. Although the moon was bright, looking up, there was only endless darkness.

The surroundings were in a mess, but only the Chaolai Pavilion, which was cut off in the middle, had not been attacked by lightning.

"Is the deer here?" Song Shiwen slid down from He's back and searched everywhere impatiently. He flipped over collapsed concrete slabs and pushed aside broken tree trunks. In just a few minutes, he was exhausted and vomited blood.

He looked at him coldly and waited until Song Shiwen could no longer make any trouble before continuing on his way.

A hazy blue halo shone above Chaolai Pavilion. As He Ai approached, the glow gradually intensified, faintly illuminating He Ai's face. He looked up, as if seeing a long-lost friend. However, this old friend was disappointing. Their relationship had reached a freezing point.

The thunder and the protective halo, balancing each other, finally gave in. The thunder disappeared, and the halo faded into darkness, the gentle aura becoming even weaker.

He pushed open the door to Chaolai Pavilion, and an ancient atmosphere seemed to greet him. The only surprise was Song Shiwen, who followed closely behind. His abrupt intrusion exuded a modern frivolity. He was kind and displeased, but there was nothing he could do.

He had expected to see Cang Yue here, but it was deserted, its carved beams and painted pillars mocking his misjudgment. He Ai waved his hand to carefully collect the movements. Song Shiwen took the initiative and lay on the ground to carefully analyze them. After a few seconds, he said to He Ai in surprise, "There's someone underground."

"Go outside."

The two of them arrived at the back garden, where the original waterfall had collapsed due to the broken tower. The entire pool was filled with rocks and wood. In a short time, the once vibrant water had become stagnant. It was not difficult to foresee that in a few months, this place would be completely dry, making it easier to fill it up.

"You're not going to tell me that Xiaolu is down there." Song Shiwen said in horror.

If he were truly buried in this pile of rubble, the chances of survival were slim. Song Shiwen instantly forgot the man before him wasn't a normal person. He frantically tried to call for help, but after searching his pockets, he realized he hadn't even thought of bringing his phone. A phone was completely useless if he was going to find Lu Cangyue.

He Ai jumped into the deep pool, perched on a rock, and slowly sank. A drizzle of rain began to fall, seemingly intensifying. He Ai remained graceful and composed, the rain unable to touch him. Fearing he would be left behind, Song Shiwen gritted his teeth and jumped in too, grabbing He Ai's arms to steady himself.

"I remember who you are." He looked at Song Shiwen hesitantly.

The muddy water engulfed them both, and He Ai's spotless body became a mess, like a freshly dug lotus root. The muddy water poured into Song Shiwen's ears and nose, and he was about to lose what little life force he had left. He Ai covered his mouth and nose with his hands and led him forward.

The aura surrounding He Ai was like a drilling machine, carving a path through the rubble and mud. They entered a cave. Song Shiwen, left coughing, looked up to see He Ai still clean. He patted the sleeves of his neat uniform with grace and composure, then led the way deeper into the cave.

Song Shiwen hurried after him, and around a corner, he saw that the cave was incredibly narrow, barely wide enough for an adult to crawl through, like a dog hole. He didn't need to think too much about it, thinking that someone as serious as He Ai was also crawling forward. Song Shiwen found it amusing, but in the current atmosphere, other emotions outweighed the amusement.

Although he had no idea what lay ahead, Song Shiwen didn't hesitate and crawled in. The narrow cave twisted and turned, sometimes up and sometimes down, and there was wind blowing everywhere, which was not suffocating, but he didn't know where the wind came from.

After a dozen meters, the view suddenly opened up, and the cave was bright. Upon closer inspection, it was the gemstones on the wall that were emitting their own light. He Ai pushed open a door disguised as a wall in front of him, and a cool breeze suddenly rushed out from inside. Song Shiwen was so frightened that he couldn't help but hide behind He Ai.

The bricks in the passage ahead were bright and spotless, looking like they were regularly maintained. Song Shiwen was nervous because it was the first time he had ever been to such a place.

"Where is this?"

"Grave."

"Whose?" This answer is not very surprising, but it arouses excessive curiosity.

After a long while, he led Song Shiwen through a long corridor and into a square room before he replied kindly, "Ancestor of the Hui family."

Song Shiwen saw a painting hanging on the cyan wall. The painting showed the back of a young man in ancient costume, looking out from afar at a woman in a heavy cyan dress, bowing to the moon.

She stood on a circular arched bridge, the surrounding woods shrouded in varying shades of darkness. The moonlight was hazy, the primary source of light coming from an indistinct object to her right. Her body was slightly turned to the left, as if gazing at someone, her face a look of happiness and peace.

Inscription on the left side of the picture:

I bowed at the Magpie Bridge in the Yunsheng Palace, and returned to the Wufang, whose husband is he? The deer-riding mountain god is not as wise as you, and the twin stars fell, clanging and hiding the moon.
