Stealing a chicken but losing the rice (2)
To prevent those around him from getting lost, Song Shiwen bought a palm-sized notebook to carry with him. If he made an agreement with Cang Yue, he would ask her to write it down in the notebook.
He was waiting for someone, bored, so he hid behind a tree to light a cigarette. His hands fumbled around in his pockets, and he pulled out the small notebook from the inside pocket of his jacket. He forgot what it was for, and opened the cover. The first page had two names: Lu Cangyue and Song Shiwen. The handwriting belonged to two different people. Turning to the second page, it read: "At nine o'clock in the evening, Song Shiwen will treat Hui Zifeng to a good beating at Chaoxi Lane, Ge Miao Street." — Lu.
Why? Song Shiwen couldn't figure it out for a moment, until he was having dinner with friends that evening. After a few drinks, he remembered the words in the notebook and suddenly felt that he couldn't ignore it. He immediately gathered a dozen people and set off for the agreed location, not forgetting to call Hui Zifeng to make an appointment.
Originally, Hui Zifeng would have ignored him, so Song Shiwen, acting clever, lied to him, saying, "The girl you've been thinking about day and night...the girl who plays the piano, chess, calligraphy, and painting...the girl who plays the lion's roar...the girl who hides the moon...will be waiting for you at Chaoxi Lane on Ge Miao Street at nine o'clock tonight. You must come."
He didn't know why he suddenly remembered the few words of Monk Wenjie. In his slightly drunken state, he pieced together some of the words that Monk Wenjie had said and talked about them in a rambling manner. Unexpectedly, he really hooked Hui Zifeng.
When they reached the dead end with a bunch of noise, Hui Zifeng had been waiting for a long time. When he heard the noise, he turned around, his face full of excitement and anticipation. Without saying anything, they picked up sticks, broken shoes and anything else that could be used as weapons and surrounded Hui Zifeng.
When Lu Cangyue arrived, the melee had only just begun. The alley was dim, the moonlight dim tonight. As Cangyue entered, all she could hear was the clamoring of a group of people. Their clothing was a mix of black, gray, and white, and their figures were similar. It was unclear who was fighting whom; it was a chaotic mess. With her agility, she slipped from one end to the other without a scratch. Of course, the battle itself was also unscathed.
"Song Shiwen!" Lu Cangyue raged, but to no avail. She twisted her wrist, her ankle, her neck, and, like a sharp knife piercing a tangled mess, she dispatched both men with a single blow. Looking back, bang! A comeback!
However, Lu Cangyue found Hui Zifeng and decided to live up to Song Shiwen's kindness by playing the hero who saved the beautiful man. Since the other party was Song Shiwen's friend, Cangyue didn't use too much force, just punching and kicking him with every move. But the other party seemed to forget that it was just a show, constantly getting up and fighting again. Even a recharged body couldn't withstand such a relentless attack. After a while, Cangyue was clearly exhausted.
Hui Zifeng was quite skilled in fighting. After all this trouble, he managed to fight a group of people to a draw. Occasionally, he could even take a break while Cang Yue was dealing with those people.
Someone, who was completely clueless, rushed towards Zang Yue and Hui Zifeng with a thick stick. Zang Yue, who was in front of Hui Zifeng, was extremely sensitive to the danger and used the momentum from Hui Zifeng's shoulder to somersault over and kick the stick away.
"Hey! I saved you, don't thank me too much!"
Feeling proud, Hui Zifeng pushed Cang Yue to the opposite wall with one palm, caught the oncoming stick with his bare hands, and took the opportunity to kick the opponent in the abdomen.
"Hey! They're one of our own, don't be too harsh!" Zang Yue saw that the situation was gradually getting out of control. This was clearly aimed at human life, and it wasn't an act at all! He immediately stopped and jumped up hard, trying to find Song Shiwen!
"Song Shiwen!" She searched around, her back pressed against Hui Zifeng's clothes, and shouted Song Shiwen's name. Perhaps Song Shiwen's hypoglycemia had recurred, and he had fainted at some point. Only then was he found among a pile of household garbage by a friend and helped up.
"Song Shiwen, why are you so lame? Who told you to be so ruthless?" Cang Yue couldn't help but accuse him a few times, and quickly explained, "It's all a misunderstanding! Song Shiwen agreed to help me act, to be a hero saving a beautiful girl..." Cang Yue turned around and said to Hui Zifeng, "Of course, I am a hero."
Before she could finish her words, Cang Yue noticed something was amiss. The wall behind Hui Zifeng was rapidly shedding cement debris, bricks sliding down. The wall was about to collapse! Without time to explain, she pulled Hui Zifeng away, but their legs tangled and they both fell. More bricks came crashing down, and Cang Yue, overestimating her own abilities, tried to protect Hui Zifeng with her own strength.
The bricks hit her body and she felt the pain. At that moment, she thought that dying for him was worth it, but it was pitiful...
Her pitiful Song Shiwen rushed over and shielded her with his body. The three of them were about to be buried together under the brick wall… Cang Yue thought to herself, but the sound of falling bricks stopped. She peeked through the gap in Song Shiwen's clothes and saw that the brick wall had collapsed halfway and stopped. Fortunately, the three people were not seriously injured. The others just watched, watching the three people play out their life-and-death drama.
"Thanks to you, I had a chance to pull you out with me."
After saying this, Hui Zifeng pulled his legs out from under Zang Yue's body and dusted himself off before standing up.
"You two have been hanging around me lately, haven't you?"
Cang Yue was surprised. He remembered her? As expected, negative emotions are the most memorable. She felt a surge of joy, already thinking about how she and Hui Zifeng would piss Shuixi off every day. Suddenly, she looked up and saw Shuixi sitting on the opposite wall, playing with a small stone. She wondered if anyone else had noticed. She thought, surely someone among these drunks would want to bring down the guy who was just sitting there watching the fight.
"No? How did you know?" Zang Yue was a little dazed and was completely unaware that what he said was inconsistent.
"Shuixi told me that you two had ulterior motives and wanted to deal with me. Now it seems to be true." Hui Zifeng didn't want to get entangled with others, but after what happened tonight, he could not forgive it no matter what. New grudges and old grudges must be settled this time. "I'm going to call the police, so get ready!"
Shuixi? It turned out Shuixi knew her every move. Her target was originally Shuixi, but she'd nearly hurt an innocent person due to a mistake. Zangyue was immediately terrified when she heard Hui Zifeng was about to call the police. She had no identity, and she was afraid she'd be detained again, just like last time. How could she be so bold as to do such a dangerous thing? She shouldn't have created an opportunity to hurt anyone. The more she thought about it, the more panic she felt, and her body gradually lost control.
"This is my idea, it has nothing to do with Song Shiwen. If you want revenge, just look for me, okay?" Zang Yue said the next few words with difficulty, "Please, I will do whatever you want."
Song Shiwen listened, his lips curling up. Not because he was being protected by a beautiful girl, but because he laughed at her naiveté. But... wait... why did she look so familiar? He should have known who she was... by name... just a name. Now he had a plan in mind: whenever he encountered a situation where he needed to figure something out but had no clues, he would pull out the notebook in his pocket and read it. He knew who she was, no wonder he had to protect her. He smiled again, this time because of her defense of him. But in her eyes, there was only Hui Zifeng.
It wasn't just a simple look someone gave a passerby, but rather a hidden expectation. She felt like she was supposed to be by his side, but now that wasn't the kind of relationship where she could be by his side, she felt hurt.
"It's not revenge." Hui Zifeng abandoned even the last bit of their friendship for Song Shiwen. He had thought that even though Song Shiwen acted like a gangster, he would still maintain his sanity and know what to do and what not to do. Now it seemed that he was just another inferior man who would turn into a beast for a girl and was proud of it. "This is not revenge, classmate, this is your responsibility. Don't you even understand this?"
"I'll take responsibility..." Thinking Hui Zifeng was about to leave, Cang Yue hurriedly stood up and ran after him. After taking just one step, she felt a piercing pain. She clutched her chest and hunched over.
"What's wrong?" Song Shiwen hugged Cang Yue in his arms. Her face was pale, dusty, and bloody. "I'll take you to the hospital," he said, lifting her up easily. He didn't forget to give Hui Zifeng an explanation before leaving.
"I will be responsible for you. I won't deny it. Don't worry, but I have to take care of her first, okay?"
Although he had done something wrong, he said this with neither humility nor arrogance, as if he had died a heroic death.
"I'm not going to the hospital," Cang Yue quickly refused, enduring the pain. But Song Shiwen wouldn't listen. She couldn't break free. She felt like she was losing all her strength.
A strong hand grabbed Song Shiwen's shoulder. Song Shiwen felt a huge pressure on his shoulder and could not move a step.
