It's hard to recognize each other
"Excuse me, do you know someone named Hui Zifeng?"
"I don't know him."
"I don't know him."
A girl who looked like a student stood at the gate of Yingzhou Art College, constantly stopping people coming out and asking them about a person named "Hui Zifeng." When someone asked what Hui Zifeng looked like, she pulled a picture from her pocket and showed it to them, saying uncertainly, "It probably looks like this."
It was a pencil drawing, a few strokes vividly depicting the face of a boy. His features were delicate, and he appeared to have a gentle and kind personality. However, there were many similar faces, and it was rare to quickly identify the real person based on this image. The security guard at the door was a conscientious middle-aged man who repeatedly reminded the girl to look elsewhere so as not to disturb other students.
After pleading several times, the girl finally gave in. She glanced at the base of the flowerbed wall nearby. The red brick wall was covered in a chaotic pattern. Among the graffiti, she saw her own traces. This was her seventh time. She still hadn't found Hui Zifeng.
Perhaps, it’s not that she didn’t find it, but that she forgot.
It was still early, but she couldn't waste any more time. She could make do with a place to stay, but filling her stomach was the most important thing. Just as the girl was about to leave, a hand suddenly stretched out in front of her.
"What? Are you scared?" The male college student who suddenly appeared smiled warmly. "Are you looking for Hui Zifeng?"
The girl's eyes lit up. "Do you know him?"
"Are you sure the person you're looking for is Hui Zifeng, not me?" The student took out his phone and showed her a photo. It was her portrait. He looked at it himself and then showed it to her. "I thought you were looking for me. Doesn't it look like me?"
Honestly, there was a slight resemblance. The girl grew uncertain, pulling out her own portrait and examining it closely: the facial shape was similar, and the more she looked at the eyebrows and eyes, the more similar they became. But the information she had previously obtained clearly stated that the man's son was named "Hui Zifeng." Was there some mistake?
"Is your last name Hui?"
"My mother's last name is Hui." The boy glanced away, as if he had something else urgent to do. "I thought you were looking for me. Since it's not you, I'll leave first. Anyway, I don't think I know you. Goodbye!"
"etc!"
As expected, the boy turned his back to the girl and smiled triumphantly, but then turned around and pretended to be innocent.
"Hello, my name is Lu Cangyue, you can call me Xiaolu." The girl held out her hand. "I'm sorry, I'm not sure if it's you I'm looking for, but can we get to know each other first?"
"Oh, it's okay. You don't look like a local. If you need anything, just ask me for help. Don't be polite." The boy looked at the girl's hand and shook it. He didn't want others to misunderstand that he was taking advantage of the girl, so he shook it lightly twice and then let go. Unexpectedly, the girl held his hand tightly.
The two looked at each other, as if they could see through each other's true colors, but in fact they couldn't see anything.
"My name is Song Shiwen. We can add each other's contact information first."
"Huh? Sorry, I don't have any."
"It's okay, it's okay. Why should I apologize?" Song Shiwen looked at the girl's hand that didn't let go for a long time, which made him, a man with ulterior motives, suspicious. "How about I take you to dinner? We can talk while we eat?"
"OK."
Lu Cangyue didn't feel the slightest bit of joy at finding Hui Zifeng. She lowered her head, lost in thought, and naturally took the boy's hand and walked forward, but he stopped where he was, looking at her with innocent eyes. She then realized something was wrong and quickly let go of his hand, explaining her behavior. "Actually, Hui Zifeng is my childhood sweetheart. My family has fallen on hard times, and now I'm alone, so I had no choice but to ask him for help."
"Are you still underage?"
The girl looked to be around 18 years old, but she might be younger.
"That's not the case."
The two walked side by side along the tree-lined avenue. Song Shiwen constantly observed the girl's expression, while her gaze kept wandering among the crowds on the road. Perhaps she didn't believe he was the one she was looking for, or even couldn't figure out who she was looking for? Song Shiwen thought about it, seeing the girl's long, fluttering eyelashes and bright eyes, her expression as if she was otherworldly and detached from the world. He secretly suppressed the upward curve of his lips and tried to keep a distance from her.
"Follow me, don't get lost." Song Shiwen reminded her from time to time, even though he paid attention to the girl's pace and matched her speed, for fear that he would lose her.
"In your situation, you should seek help from his family. That would be much more helpful than asking Hui Zifeng, right?"
"How did you get the portrait of Hui Zifeng that I drew?" Cang Yue tripped and Song Shiwen came to support her in time. She turned around and looked at Song Shiwen, appearing flattered and excited.
"Well, it's a long story. We're here." Song Shiwen, like Cang Yue, evaded the question. Actually, the explanation for this matter was quite complicated. It all started with a recurring dream: a strange girl who kept chasing him. Wherever he went, she followed. He asked her what she wanted, and she replied, "I've been looking for you, forever." Then the scene shifted to ancient times, with a newlywed couple bowing in the moonlight. He vaguely felt that, as the groom, the bride across from him was the girl chasing him.
Later, during sketching class, he happened to see the classmate sitting in front of him draw a portrait of a girl. He instantly got goosebumps. Wasn't that the person from his dream? Although her face was blurry in the dream, seeing the portrait made him absolutely certain it was the person from his dream. After asking, he learned that the person in the classmate's drawing was the girl who had been looking for Hui Zifeng at the school gate that morning. So he immediately went to find her, pretending to be the person she was looking for, and took a photo of her and her portrait.
He clearly did all of this. A classmate also said he ran out of the classroom after seeing the portrait, returning to his dorm late, claiming he'd found the girl he loved. But the next day, these real experiences became a dream. The artist who drew the girl's portrait changed his story, claiming it was an imaginary creation modeled after a master's work.
Was it really a dream? Song Shiwen thought he might be suffering from schizophrenia. But he found two photos he had taken that day on his phone: one was a blurry, blank image, and the other was a portrait in the hands of a girl claiming to be Lu Cangyue.
Even if he was schizophrenic, he wanted to make this dream realistic.
Song Shiwen walked up the steps and opened the restaurant door. Turning around, Cang Yue was gone. A running figure quickly caught his attention. The green light flashed, and Cang Yue ran across the street. He looked over and saw Hui Zifeng walking down the street with a camera, taking photos as he went.
She had found Hui Zifeng, the person she was looking for. Song Shiwen felt a little lost. The portrait actually bore a close resemblance to Hui Zifeng's face. So why had she fallen for his trick? With this thought, Song Shiwen suddenly understood. Convinced that Cang Yue was actually uncertain, he followed.
That person felt so familiar, so kind. Was it him? He stepped into her sight like a lotus flower in the mud, as if a dusty memory had been reopened. A feeling guided her towards him.
The camera lens captured a red brick wall, a small blade of grass poking out from the cement. Hui Zifeng adjusted the focus and noticed some strange symbols carved into the red brick wall. Perhaps they were made by the neighborhood children; the combination was quite interesting. He decided to include the scribbled symbols in the shot. In that frozen moment, a girl's face suddenly appeared.
The photo must have been a failure. Hui Zifeng was not happy.
"Excuse me, are you Hui Zifeng? Hello! Do you remember who I am?"
"Sorry, you got the wrong person." Hui Zifeng rarely looked at people with a cold face, "Goodbye!"
Hui Zifeng didn't even bother to check how the photo turned out, or whether he should take another one. Thanks to this stranger, his chance at a good piece of work had been ruined. He chose to move forward, to get rid of her. But the girl kept chasing him. He had encountered this kind of thing before, and while it annoyed him immensely, his good nature kept him polite.
Hearing this man say he wasn't Hui Zifeng, Cang Yue had already given up. Standing there, watching him walk away, a distance of about two or three meters between them, Cang Yue felt her heart ache. She had missed out so many times and didn't want to give up another opportunity. So, regardless of everything else, she chased after him, wanting to see that man a few more times.
There are many similar people in this world. She understands.
Seeing Hui Zifeng's indifference towards her, Song Shiwen wanted to stop her, but the moment he opened his mouth, he forgot her name. He had just said that this was his problem? What was wrong with his brain? Song Shiwen frowned in frustration and chased after Cang Yue, grabbing her hand.
The three of them stopped. Hui Zifeng turned around and saw Song Shiwen holding the girl's hand. He thought maliciously in his heart: They are really a couple. They like each other.
"Hi!" Song Shiwen raised his hand sloppily as a greeting, his eyes fixed only on the girl. "Let me introduce you, this is my friend. And this one, his name is Hui Zifeng."
Song Shiwen emphasized the last three words while observing the girl's reaction.
"Oh, sorry, hello." Hui Zifeng said politely with an apologetic smile. After he finished speaking, his eyes quickly fell on Song Shiwen. "This should be the first time we meet, right?"
The implication is that the girl just asked him if he still remembered her, was there some misunderstanding? Even if it was a misunderstanding, he should not bother him again.
"Oh, she recognized the wrong person. I apologize to you on her behalf." Song Shiwen was still polite at this time.
"It's okay." Hui Zifeng looked past the two of them and once again at the corner of the scenery he had just missed, wondering if he should go back and take another picture. "I'm leaving first. Goodbye."
Without waiting for a response from the two people opposite, Hui Zifeng turned around and strode forward. The girl grabbed the belt of his windbreaker. His gaze slowly moved from the belt to the girl's face. She said anxiously, "I am Xiaolu, Hui Zifeng..."
She wanted to say something to persuade Hui Zifeng to know her, but she couldn't say anything at this moment.
"Excuse me, I have a call."
Hui Zifeng pressed the answer button and watched the girl let go of his clothes before walking forward.
"Is he the person you are looking for?" Song Shiwen was very dissatisfied with Hui Zifeng's attitude towards the girl. If he was not in front of her, he would have to talk to Hui Zifeng.
"I think I made a mistake." Originally, Cang Yue understood Hui Zifeng's indifference. After all, if he forgot, she would too. In a vast sea of people, when a stranger suddenly intrudes into one's world, anyone would resist. But when Song Shiwen asked this, the grievances in her heart surged. She felt that the real person, even if it was just the first meeting, would have feelings and wouldn't be so cold. She looked up at Song Shiwen and thought he looked a lot like the portrait. His eyes were full of affection. Could it be Song Shiwen? Could there be some mistake?
"Why not me, Fawn?"
As Song Shiwen asked this, Cang Yue turned and saw Hui Zifeng running. His puffed-up windbreaker seemed to be involuntarily sucked into a tunnel, drifting further and further away. One thing was certain: this moment, at least, would never come back. He was drifting away, and they would never see each other again. Song Shiwen's words fell on her ears, but she didn't take them to heart, so she didn't answer.
Anyway, it won't be long before everyone forgets. He doesn't know her, so she might forget him.
The next day, at another intersection, the green light came on with a "ding" sound. Lu Cangyue came back to his senses and hurried forward, following in the footsteps of others.
A bicycle slowly approached her. When they reached the curb, the red light came on, and the bicycle made a sharp turn, tilted 30 degrees, and one foot landed on the curb, blocking her path.
"Excuse me, are you a fawn?"
Huh? The girl was surprised, then delighted. She didn't expect someone to remember her. But who was this person?
"You are..." Lu Cangyue racked her brains but couldn't figure out who this kind-looking boy was. She felt he was familiar and kind, but she didn't feel the desire to get close to him. "Who are you?"
"I remember the cat in your arms!" The black kitten quickly retreated from Lu Cangyue's collar and soon lay on her shoulder, looking alert. "My name is Song Shiwen. Strangely enough, I feel like you're familiar... I hope you don't take offense. I feel like I knew you before, but it's been so long that I've forgotten... Are you looking for Hui Zifeng today too?"
"Well, do you know him?"
