Lu Cangyue's Temptation (2)
The cat was missing. Shuixi had kindly planned to give it some food today, but upon returning home, he discovered the cat's scent had vanished from the house. He searched every cabinet, every pipe—every possible hiding place—but couldn't find it. It couldn't escape, Shuixi was confident. Even if the house's defenses were breached, the bell around its neck wouldn't be able to withstand it.
The truth was, He Ai had indeed escaped. No trace of him remained in the nearby forests. Shui Xi, observing the puddle on the road, realized how utterly utterly distraught he'd been when he couldn't find He Ai. Why? Why was he the only one clinging to that relationship? They were the only ones left in the world, each other, so why was he still so foolishly following that person? What was so good about her? She'd betrayed her mission, betrayed him!
Damn it!
Shuixi punched the ground, breaking it. Amidst the pain, he suddenly came to his senses and decided to return to Hui Zifeng. He Ai would definitely go find Lu Cangyue, and if he was caught again, he would show no mercy.
Damn it. Escape again and again.
As exams approached, the students' schedules became increasingly busy. Hui Zifeng spent the entire day at school, fretting over various issues. Shuixi couldn't escape either. He sat quietly by the window, his mind wandering to some unknown place. Only when someone else appeared beside him did he react, startled like a normal person.
"Hello, I'm Lu Cangyue, do you remember?"
Shuixi glanced at Hui Zifeng on the podium and shook her head. The man then said, "Now we know each other! What's your name?" Without waiting for Shuixi to answer, the girl flipped through the notebook in front of him, looked at his name, and said to herself, "Shuixi! What a unique name! I feel like I've heard it somewhere before."
"Really? Actually, it's a place name." Shuixi pushed his things aside, separating himself from the girl by a seat. The girl followed closely, resting one hand on the desk, staring at Shuixi openly.
"What place name is it? Why did you choose a place name?"
"What does this have to do with you?" Shui Xi said coldly, "Why did you come to see me?"
Lu Zangyue approached Shuixi and sniffed him. As if he had discovered some incredible secret, he looked at Shuixi in disbelief, "You know me, right? Of course I have something to talk to you about, Senior. Didn't anyone call you to look for me?"
The girl's coquettish behavior attracted the attention of people around her. Shuixi felt a chill and said, "No, stay away from me." Shuixi stepped to the other side of the table and went out through the window again.
The bell for the end of get out of class rang just in time. Hui Zifeng was packing up his things while looking towards Shuixi's position, and just happened to see his back as he climbed out of the window and walked away.
Song Shiwen was awakened by the bell for the end of class. He opened his eyes drowsily, yawned, and looked at the window. The bright sunlight poured in, and the girl in the light yellow dress was glowing all over. When she turned around, a certain place in Song Shiwen's mind was suddenly pierced. He jumped up, and his friends around him asked him what happened. Looking at the familiar environment around him, he slowly confirmed that the moment was real. He grabbed his friend and asked, "Who was the girl standing there just now?"
The friend was stunned for a second, then understood, "The girl you said was disgusting for acting like a spoiled child? She came to find Shuixi, he should know her." Before he finished speaking, Song Shiwen jumped over the desk and hurriedly chased after her.
No matter where Shuixi went, Lu Cangyue would block him head-on. Shuixi was speechless, confused as to when she had become so powerful. Helplessly, he thought of a dirty trick and hid in the bathroom with a calm expression.
One minute... two minutes...
Outside the restroom, a burst of male screams approached Shuixi like firecrackers. Shuixi peered under the door panel and saw a pair of old-fashioned women's leather shoes. Then, with a soft click, the door panel was completely removed from the outside. The two people, separated by a door, stared at each other.
Lu Cangyue held a bouquet of roses in her hands, her pretty face tilted upwards, but her eyes held a threat that said, "You have nowhere to escape." Shuixi was very calm and asked, "Where did these flowers come from?"
"Oh, I just met a boy on the street. He said I was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, so he gave me flowers. But I guess he has forgotten what I look like now." Lu Zangyue was content amid the uncontrollable screams and onlookers of the boys. Shuixi, on the other hand, looked around from time to time, probably because he was afraid that this scene today would spread to everyone and he would not be able to hold his head up in school from then on.
"You've found my weakness. Can we talk about it outside?" Shuixi sat on the toilet with his hands covering his face.
"Isn't your weakness Hui Zifeng? Well, I just wanted to ask you if Mr. Zhao Yuwei called you to ask if he wanted to see me?"
"If you don't get out of the way, I will kill your kitten." Shuixi, who was hiding in plain sight, suddenly turned hostile and threatened.
Cang Yue marveled at his acting skills, chewing her cheeks as she pondered the pros and cons. In reality, she'd already gotten the answer she'd been looking for, but she'd still fancifully tried to convince him to side with her. She stepped aside, unyieldingly saying, "Then Hui Zifeng is in danger too. I remember you said not to touch him, right?"
Hateful things always leave a lasting impression on people. Coming here, her clearest memory was of this person.
"Really? Then I'll wait and see."
These gentle words weighed more heavily on the girl's ears than any threat. She hesitated for a second or two, then resolutely followed.
Shuixi and Hui Zifeng walked along the tree-lined avenue, discussing exam questions like other students. Lu Cangyue came bounding up to them, holding the bouquet of flowers. She first glanced at Shuixi, then fixed her gaze on Hui Zifeng. Hui Zifeng was surprised and slightly at a loss. She looked at Shuixi and said, "Did I come to see you? Then I'll be leaving first."
Lu Cangyue grabbed Hui Zifeng's hand, and their eyes met, speechless for a moment. Hui Zifeng's face turned red, and his words became stammering. "Are you...are you looking for...me...my...? But...I don't know..."
"How about getting to know each other?" Lu Cangyue took Hui Zifeng's hand and gently pulled the tall and strong man to her side. She looked up at his eyes and asked, "I wonder if you are interested?"
Shuixi took a step back, covering his mouth to hide his smile as if he were watching a play. Lu Cangyue's mind was on Hui Zifeng, but he was always paying attention to Shuixi's reaction. When he noticed his reaction, he suddenly felt uneasy.
"No, no." Hui Zifeng pulled his hand away. "Please don't be so abrupt."
He had never felt so uneasy about someone approaching him. She was so beautiful. Her eyes, her smile, her fragrance, mixed with the beautiful wind and light along Wutong Road, made his soul lose its support and completely collapse in his body.
"I'm sorry, I offended you." Lu Cangyue finally understood Shuixi's smile and walked away with her head down, pretending to be disappointed. A few bold boys caught up with her and asked for her contact information. She thought that with her beauty, Hui Zifeng would at least remember her a little. If that was the case, she had to find another way.
The bustling intersection, bathed in the summer dusk, was warm and harmonious, a paradise at first glance. Hui Zifeng listened quietly to the sounds around him. Although he disliked noise, the clamor of others brought him peace of mind. He prepared to visit the art museum, his excitement at the prospect of discovering the truth overwhelming. Standing at the sidewalk, he gazed at the electronic sign on the building opposite: an advertisement advertising the history of painter Zhao Yuwei's apprenticeship. Artists tend to confine themselves to their own circles, but this time, the scene was so grand, Hui Zifeng was puzzled.
Hui Zifeng watched the video, oblivious to the green light. It wasn't until the entire video finished playing that the painter's portrait and signature reappeared on the screen. Hui Zifeng keenly noticed that the seal was different from the previous one and quickly took out his camera to take a photo as evidence.
There was a "click" sound.
It wasn't his voice. Hui Zifeng tilted his head slightly, and the people around him also turned to look at him. Both of them were a little embarrassed. Song Shiwen reacted first and said nonchalantly, "Sorry to bother you?"
"It's okay, it's okay." Hui Zifeng responded politely, "This isn't a place I live alone. By the way, what were you filming just now?"
"What do you care about me?" Politeness only lasted a second or two. Song Shiwen said coldly, standing further away and continuing to wait for the green light.
"You also like painter Zhao Yuwei?"
A cute girl suddenly leaned forward and followed Hui Zifeng's gaze to speak.
Like a caged person seeing bright flowers blooming in the wilds, Hui Zifeng felt a sense of freedom at that moment. Unfettered by constraints, he felt a sense of panic.
"Ah... well." Hui Zifeng put the camera into her backpack with her hands stiffly. Thinking that the other party had recognized the wrong person, she looked at her suspiciously to make sure it was not the case. "Who are you?"
The light turned green, and the people gathered around them began to move forward, until only two people remained.
"Lu Cangyue," the girl introduced herself confidently. "I heard you just won first place in the National Art Competition, so I wanted to see what the legendary genius looks like."
Song Shiwen, who was behind him, suddenly turned back when he heard the girl's voice and looked at her carefully.
"I'm sorry, I'm leaving." Hui Zifeng smiled and refused indifferently. He was not the kind of person who would be moved by a girl. He felt ashamed of his reaction, so he ran away.
"Hey!" Lu Cangyue had to trot after him to explain, "I'm sorry, I'm so rude. I actually wanted to learn from you and ask for your advice."
"I'm sorry, if you want to learn, go find a professional teacher. I can't teach."
It was clearly a rejection. Lu Cangyue hadn't imagined it would be so difficult. If it were someone else, they'd probably agree to anything if she just acted coquettishly. She began to act pitiful, wrinkling her nose, and when she looked up, her eyes were already filled with tears.
"I came to you because I really had no other choice. Classmate, can you help me?"
Hui Zifeng didn't look back. Lu Cangyue fell to the ground, still calling out in a pitiful voice. Bystanders could see that the girl was chasing the boy, so they naturally assumed it was a young couple having a quarrel and didn't intervene. Lu Cangyue didn't fall on purpose. When she realized her tricks didn't work on a man, she became anxious and accidentally tripped over the curb. Hui Zifeng looked back and saw the scene. Without any emotion, she blended into the crowd with a perfect face.
Such a small difficulty defeated her? Cang Yue clenched her fist and pressed it against her chest, trying to calm herself. She didn't know how to use honey traps. She always assumed that if others could do it, she could do it too, and that all men were the same. She had received free food from the old man selling buns without doing anything, so she thought she could do the same to another man. In fact, she couldn't do anything well. People's hearts were difficult to control, let alone a foolish illiterate like her. What tricks could she play?
Shuixi laughed at her again from the shadows. Who was that man? Was he a friend or an enemy? Didn't he want a companion?
Suddenly, a pair of hands grabbed her arms. Zang Yue was startled and turned around to see that the hands were only trying to help her stand up.
"Are you okay?" He bowed his head slightly and politely gestured for her to check his legs.
It was just a little scrape. She pounded her chest and stretched out her hand. Song Shiwen consciously offered her his arm for support. When she realized what was happening, she looked at Song Shiwen's face. He didn't think her outrageous behavior was wrong. Instead, he looked at her with a peaceful expression, expecting her to speak.
He should have a sullen face and be unhappy with everyone, ready to curse or punch someone in the next second. It is really hard to get used to him being so gentle.
Lu Cangyue withdrew his hand, stubbornly refusing to need help. She whispered a thank you, and seeing he was still following her, she asked, "Do you know me?" Lowering her eyes, Cangyue saw he was wearing a peace amulet from Chaolai Temple. Leaning closer, she could distinctly smell the scent of incense ash. Why had Wenjie chosen him? This wasn't a case of good intentions leading to bad results. Although she was reluctant, she couldn't fall in love with him. If they ever met again, they could only be friends.
"I'm sorry!" Song Shiwen's tone was filled with sarcasm, "Because I always see you looking at me with a lingering look."
"Ah? I don't!" Zang Yue suddenly became impatient, rubbing her hands back and forth in her hair, trying to distance herself from the truth. "Even if I did, you don't have to be so attached to me, okay? I have something important to attend to, so I can't stay with you. Goodbye!"
Lu Cangyue was extremely nervous, her speech speed increasing several times. She had been feeling down just a moment ago, but now she was suddenly cheerful again. She unilaterally chose to escape, making a farewell gesture with both hands and quickly scrambling away. Song Shiwen caught up with her and looked at her, "Can't we just be friends? Hey, Lu Cangyue, is that your name? My name is Song Shiwen. I didn't believe it at first, but the monk at the temple said that my restlessness and strange dreams were due to my lack of my destined marriage. When I saw you... it was like the full moon... my heart was complete. Do you understand that feeling? Can we just be friends? I'm not a big deal, but if you're in trouble, I'll definitely help you!"
Hearing this, Zang Yue's eyes lit up and he immediately asked, "Then can you help me win over Hui Zifeng? I want him to be mine!"
