Shuixi's identity

Shuixi's identity

Over the past two days, Ming Yan had noticed that several pieces of clothing were missing from his bedroom at the Shanyou Fusu store, and he couldn't find them anywhere. Shui Xi was cooking in the kitchen downstairs. Ming Yan stood at the kitchen door and called out, but Shui Xi didn't hear him. Shui Xi was lost in thought.

The window was open, and a light drizzle began to fall, bringing a cool breeze. Ming Yan shivered, but Shui Xi seemed oblivious, letting the wind blow her black short-sleeved shirt. Ming Yan squeezed past Shui Xi and closed the window. Shui Xi finally came to her senses, her eyes unconsciously following Ming Yan's movements. He turned off the fire, lifted the pot lid and set it aside, and the aroma from the pot immediately wafted out.

"What are you cooking?"

"Cook the medicine. Do you want to try it?" Shuixi scooped a spoonful into the bowl and handed it to Mingyan, his attention still focused on the pot in front of him. He poured the remaining so-called medicinal juice into a thermos bucket and covered it with his hand.

"Why are you so caring? Is it for Hui Zifeng, or for the beautiful woman you have hidden in your golden house?" Ming Yan was a little jealous. He took a sip of the black medicine and couldn't help but spit it into the sink. She immediately felt relieved.

Shuixi didn't hear it, so he turned around and asked, "What?"

Ming Yan rolled her eyes and tapped Shui Xi's arm with the iron horse flower that she had been holding in her hand recently. Shui Xi took a look at the thing, disgusted but patient, and picked up the rag to clean the kitchen counter as if nothing had happened.

"I'm asking you, did you move the clothes in my bedroom?"

Shuixi paused, turned around and grinned at Mingyan, clearly admitting his mistake.

"No way? Can't even afford clothes?" Ming Yan felt uncomfortable.

"My friend is injured. It's urgent. I'll buy you a new set someday." Shuixi was eager to escape the scene, squeezing through the half-blocked door with the thermos in hand. "I'll be back before dark. Remember to close the door early and don't talk to strangers."

"My dress is a limited edition!" She designed and made it by herself, and planned to wear it on a date. Unexpectedly, Shuixi became more and more bold.

The yard was deserted. A heavy wooden door, gently pushed, sent a shower of dust cascading down. Inside, a window was open, and beside it sat a rocking chair, where a thin girl lay. If you didn't look closely, you'd think there was only a blanket. A cat lay beside the girl. When it heard the door open, it immediately stood up and stared at the uninvited guest.

"It's me, He'an, don't be nervous." Shuixi put the thermos on the windowsill. Because there was dust everywhere else. He reached out to hug the cat and was scratched by its sharp claws, and his hand was bleeding slightly. Shuixi was not angry. He sat down casually on a broken stool and opened his arms. "Do you want to come to my place?"

He exuded a strong scent of incense. He's heart was itching to move, but he was too weak to take a single step. He couldn't let Shuixi see him in this state, so he had to bite the bullet and hold on.

"Never mind, never mind. I'll be generous and give you something to eat." Shuixi approached, watching He'ai close his eyes and take a deep breath, chuckling to himself. He took the thermos, opened it, poured some medicine into a bowl, and brought it to He'ai's mouth. He'ai refused on the surface, but his heart couldn't refuse. His eyes betrayed it.

"Drink it, it's not poisonous." Shuixi took a sip from the bowl and brought it to He'ai's mouth. He'ai looked back at Zangyue, meowed, turned around and lay down at her neck.

"Okay, let's give it to her first, okay?" Shuixi understood. He moved closer and waved his hand over Cangyue's nose. The pungent smell startled her awake. Her limbs were severely injured and she couldn't move. Now she was a pitiful little thing at the mercy of others. Shuixi had no such sympathy and said stiffly and coldly, "Drink this."

"No," Cang Yue insisted. How could she accept something from a bad guy?

Shuixi explained helplessly, "This kind of thing has happened between you and me many times. I'm tired of it. Can't you think about me?"

"Then why do you remember me?"

"I'm not human."

"Then what are you?"

"Just like the kindness around you."

"Who is your master then?"

"Can't you see that? Hui Zifeng and his family."

"Really? That means Hui Zifeng isn't the one I'm looking for. Song Shiwen is, right?" Because a house-guarding lion can't have two owners at the same time. Song Shiwen recognized her at first sight and tried so hard to remember her.

"Then why did you take my He'an? It's mine," Zang Yue said angrily, sitting up from the rocking chair, pain surging through his limbs. His heart suddenly felt like it couldn't take it anymore, so he quickly lay down to calm down.

"He has to go hungry and suffer so much with you. Can you bear it?" Shuixi retorted.

"Yeah, he hasn't been human since he followed me."

"That's because it's too weak." Shuixi couldn't bear it, so his tone became gentle, so that Zang Yue would have a change of heart and hand He'an over to him.

"Then do you know how I can get back?"

"You can go anywhere, as long as you don't set your sights on Hui Zifeng." Shuixi realized that even if he said that, Cangyue had no intention of handing over He'ai, and his attitude suddenly turned harsh again. "I'm not your friend, and I don't want to care about you at all. Why don't you leave when you're in this state? What's the point of staying here? You have no status, so you can't survive. Why don't you find a good place to live in seclusion?"

"Give me medicine." Zang Yue interrupted Shuixi's nagging.

Shuixi obediently brought the bowl to her mouth and fed her.

At the police station, Song Shiwen sat there waiting for the results. The old police officer advised him, "Go back and take the test first. I'll let you know as soon as the results are out. It's useless for you to wait here, and you're interrupting our work."

Just as he finished speaking, the laboratory department called. After hanging up the phone, Song Shiwen asked, "How is it?"

The old policeman felt relieved, but his frown remained. "The good news... that's what they say. It's human, but the genetic sequence is very different from modern humans. We can't be absolutely sure. We need to study and investigate further. The bad news is, it's a living creature after all. How cruel."

"What kind of result is this?" Song Shiwen was depressed.

The old policeman patted him on the shoulder and said, "Isn't it good that we can't be sure it's a human? If it were a human, wouldn't that be confirmed right away? You've made great contributions, and being a police officer would be great. You said you studied art, but it doesn't seem like you're cut out for it."

Shuixi settled Cangyue down, and taking advantage of the darkening sky, he indulged himself a little, climbed over the wall, chose a place he liked to land, and even struck a very perfect landing posture.

"Nice skills." A familiar voice and applause came from under the eaves opposite. Shui Xi was startled, then raised his head and greeted with a steady smile, "It's you, what are you doing here? If the young master doesn't come home after dark, the master and the mistress will be worried."

"I heard you learned judo for self-defense, but I didn't hear you practiced gymnastics?" Hui Zifeng walked out from the eaves, holding an umbrella. The raindrops from the umbrella flowed directly onto Shuixi's hair without a trace. Shuixi quickly slid under the umbrella, laughing, snatched the handle from Hui Zifeng's hand, and helped him walk back to the store, explaining as they went.

"Just now, a stray cat broke into the house, and my boss told me to get it back. How could I possibly do that? But I can't disobey my boss's orders! I have no choice."

"Really? Take me inside." The house was once the home of a local celebrity a century ago. It was now locked and unattended. But it was still a cultural relic. How could Shuixi dare to enter and exit it at will? What if anything was damaged? How could he afford the compensation?

"Don't look at it, don't look at it, there's nothing to see, there are a lot of insects and snakes in there, only wild cats will hide in there."

There were still some things Hui Zifeng wanted to ask Shuixi for clarification. The two of them arrived at Shanyou Fusu, and Mingyan happened to be there. Hui Zifeng forbade Shuixi to speak, and in order to prevent him from winking at Mingyan, he asked him to stand at the door with his back to them. Hui Zifeng asked Mingyan whether what Shuixi had just said about catching the cat was true or not. Mingyan lied without a flaw, "Yes, of course. As soon as I came and opened the wardrobe, the cat ran away and ruined two of my good clothes. I said he didn't take good care of the store, and he said he would compensate me. You testify, Lao Hui, don't let him deny it."

Hui Zifeng said no more and asked Shuixi why he interfered in the matter of Songqi.

"How do you know so much? Why didn't you tell me?"

Shuixi looked as if he had heard a joke. "You don't want to care about anything at all, and I, a kind-hearted citizen, happened to see you while I was walking my dog and looking for my cat."

"Then why didn't you call the police immediately?"

"I'm worried that you'll think I'm causing trouble and bringing shame to your Hui family."

No matter what, it was Hui Zifeng's fault?

"So you only spoke when I asked you to?" These excuses were far-fetched. Hui Zifeng was furious, feeling that something was wrong, but what reason did he have to demand perfection from others?

"Of course I'll tell you if you ask me. Why would you cause trouble for yourself if you don't ask me?" Shuixi said as a matter of course.

Isn't Hui Zifeng just like that? If he doesn't care, someone else will. Why is he so anxious now?

Shuixi was a little happy that Hui Zifeng had left. She asked Mingyan in a frivolous way, "Why would you help me lie to Hui Zifeng? And how did you know that what Hui Zifeng said was a lie?"

"Hui Zifeng is not like you, who lies easily." Ming Yan said unhappily. He went upstairs and added angrily, "You'd better work honestly for me like before, or you'd better leave as soon as possible."

"I was wrong, Boss!" Shuixi yelled at the top of her lungs, "Boss, I'll make you something you want to eat. How about some health-promoting porridge?"

"Get lost!" came the reply from upstairs.

It was late at night, and the place was quiet. He patrolled the Shuixi Building several times, carefully pacing each time he passed Mingyan's room, listening for silence before returning to his own room across the street. The nights were always damp. He felt irritated. He opened the window, letting the cool breeze wash over him.

The familiar smell seemed to be gone. Shuixi's nerves suddenly tensed up, and he jumped out of the window, and in a blink of an eye he arrived at the celebrity's former residence. The window was still open, the rocking chair was rocking, and there was still a lot of medicine left in the thermos, which had already gone cold. There was nothing under the blanket, just a blanket sitting there alone. Shuixi raised his head and carefully distinguished the smell in the air. Because of the rain, his sense of smell was somewhat affected. He had no choice but to go out and look.

Walking through the streets and alleys, anxiously breathing, the cold rain and night. After searching all night, Shuixi arrived at Chaolai Temple in a daze. The gate was already open.

A man stood in front of the Chaolai Pavilion, his eyes closed, his hands clasped together, praying devoutly. Shuixi recognized the figure from behind; it was Song Shiwen.

"What are you doing here?" Shuixi asked.

"I heard this place is very spiritual, so I came here to pray for good luck on my exam."

"You didn't even take the test."

Song Shiwen was speechless. He didn't argue with him. After a long while, feeling Shuixi still beside him, he said, "I feel like I've been possessed for the past two weeks. It seems to be because I've been too close to you and Hui Zifeng."

Wen Jie was chuckling on the side, but Shui Xi caught him red-handed. A sinister glare pierced Wen Jie's face. It had been so long since he'd felt this way, and even the corners of his mouth couldn't be forced upwards to fake a smile.

"Yeah, yeah!" Shuixi sneered, "Stay away from Hui Zifeng from now on, he's not a good person."

Shuixi went to sit aside. Wenjie came over and poured a glass of water. Hesitantly, he carefully asked with concern, "What's wrong with you? You don't look well?"

"Do you remember Lu Zangyue?" Shuixi seemed to have made a great decision before speaking.

Wenjie thought carefully and denied it with certainty, adding, "Monks do not interfere in worldly affairs."

Who else would remember her? Shuixi called Mr. Zhao Yuwei.

"Hello, Mr. Zhao, I'm Shuixi, looking for Lu Cangyue."

Mr. Zhao on the other end of the phone seemed particularly excited. "It's you. Someone wrote to me before and asked me to call you and said that I could find him through you. Can you put him on the phone?"

These words were so contradictory that even Mr. Zhao didn't react.

"Wait, let me see who it is." Mr. Zhao went back to rummaging through boxes and cabinets and told Shuixi, "I can't find that important letter. Wait until I find it and I'll call you."

The next time I find that letter will probably be when she comes back. He's gone too. Shuixi stood on the tower, looking at the former Yunsheng Palace, now the Chaolai Pavilion, from afar. The rain fell on her body countless times.
