Chapter 11 It turns out Xiao Chi is afraid to sleep alone...
For the next few days, a semblance of harmony was maintained in the villa.
Xu Yan seemed completely unaware of what had happened that night, accepting all of Chi Chen's advances without question and engaging in conversation about anything, even the most trivial topics, without any apparent reaction from him.
Everything seemed to be developing in the direction he had envisioned, like a frog being slowly boiled in water.
Chi Chen, however, felt that he was not so calm anymore.
Perhaps it was the loss of control that night.
Chi Chen dreams of that scene every night, and each time he goes even further, wantonly manipulating the sleeping person. The pale lips in his eyes and the soft, cool touch on his fingertips seem to become more and more real.
This beginning was just scratching the surface, constantly piquing his interest until he could barely contain himself.
Why was he being so cautious? He even deliberately explained that he hadn't done anything after entering the room, in order to lower Xu Yan's guard.
He had it under control, so why did he do that one time out of control?
Chi Chen has recently started to drift off into a daze, unable to look away whenever his gaze falls on any part of Xu Yan.
When she's working, her dark eyelashes are so alluring that you can't help but want to touch them; when she looks down to eat, the neck that's exposed has a delicate yet beautiful curve, and it seems that every time I see it, I'm uncontrollably drawn to it.
It has exceeded the limits of his rational control.
Finally, amidst this growing anxiety, the day for my business trip arrived.
They packed their luggage the night before. Xu Yan was a little reluctant to part with the cat, so she used a method she found online to make a small contraption with rubber bands and hooks so that the cat could easily crawl in and out.
After dinner, they sat together on the sofa and chatted peacefully, a rare occurrence for them.
Big Orange still liked to lie on Xu Yan's lap, Middle Orange slept between the two, while Little Orange was forcibly held in Chi Chen's arms.
“According to the company’s schedule, we seem to have two days of free time this weekend.” Chi Chen looked at the schedule on his phone and opened a social media app. “The attractions in Nancheng are mostly some characteristic ancient towns. Want to go and have some fun? There are plenty of places to eat, drink and play nearby.”
Xu Yan lowered her eyes, her gaze fixed on Da Ju, seemingly uninterested. "You can arrange it however you like."
Chi Chen paused, then suddenly remembered that he had seen Xu Yan's ID card, which seemed to be from Nancheng.
Why didn't Xu Yan mention this, or why were there so few people in the company who knew about it?
Xu Yan doesn't seem to like Nancheng very much.
He suppressed his curiosity, thinking he would find out when he got there.
When it was almost time, Xu Yan carried the big orange upstairs, and Chi Chen, as usual, chatted with him before bed.
After agreeing to the three-person request, Xu Yan seemed quite surprised, but at least he returned to his previous relatively stable state.
Even because of her generosity, Xu Yan was willing to share some things about herself and Chi Chen, for example.
"The soft-boiled eggs this morning turned out pretty well."
"My roommate's new vase is very pretty."
"The cat has gotten fat again. He says it's because we never realize that the other has already given him treats."
Or perhaps it was intentional provocation.
But Chi Chen is different, so he can control himself and has never lost his composure. He always responds in the most perfect state and can even pretend to be pitiful.
I wonder if Xu Yan realized that his probing, his eyes, were increasingly resembling a pleading gesture.
The next morning, Chi Chen took Xu Yan and his own suitcase to the airport.
He drove on the airport expressway and arrived at the terminal early.
Chi Chen took care of collecting tickets, checking in, and dropping off luggage, and everything was arranged very well.
After passing through security, the two went to the lounge to sit and rest for a while.
Chi Chen brought over coffee and gently placed it on the small round table. After sitting down, he propped his chin up with his hand, his eyes sparkling as he stared intently at Xu Yan's face.
At this time, one can openly and legitimately appreciate Xu Yan's beauty.
Chi Chen couldn't help but marvel at how someone could have every inch of their skin perfectly aligned with their own aesthetic standards.
Xu Yan was stared at for a few seconds, but still kept her eyelashes down as she flipped through the documents in her hand. "If you're bored, you can learn more about the client's information."
Chi Chen gave a smile seeking praise and said in a natural, childlike tone, "Brother, did I do well today?"
Xu Yan finally raised her eyes, then smiled and said, "This is what you should do."
Xu has been smiling more often lately, but it's always the same dismissive, noncommittal smile.
It's like coaxing a child; you can fulfill all of the child's little requests, such as casually tossing them a piece of candy.
Chi Chen couldn't quite describe how he felt; he felt like he wasn't being taken seriously.
He could only pout pitifully, "I will try my best to make my brother happy."
A few hours later, the two met with representatives from the other company at the airport.
Xu Yan quickly got into work mode, while Chi Chen was in some pain.
He needed to suppress his emotions and watch Xu Yan interact with the receptionist.
We exchanged pleasantries the whole way, and the other party's reception was professional and thoughtful, with the conversation always revolving around work and the local scenery.
The van arrived at the hotel, and after confirming the arrangements, they left.
They will only have a few hours to rest before being picked up for dinner.
Previously in the car, Chi Chen played the role of assistant; when abroad, he was usually accompanied by his assistant.
Although it was his first time being an assistant, he knew exactly what he should and should do.
After taking the room key, in the elevator where there were only the two of them, Xu Yan looked at Chi Chen and said in her usual calm tone, "You did a really good job."
This is purely an evaluation of the work, unrelated to personal feelings.
Chi Chen, who was in a bad mood, suddenly brightened up. "Really?"
Xu Yan saw that Chi Chen's dim eyes were now filled with the warmth of the sun, revealing a hint of genuine joy.
Unlike the pretentious attempts to appear young in the past, this is the pure innocence of a young boy.
Are you so happy just because of a compliment?
Xu Yan felt pleased—he enjoyed the feeling of truly controlling Chi Chen's emotions.
He looked away, a slight smile playing on his lips, revealing his current mood: "So good."
Chi Chen's smile froze for a moment.
He came to his senses and realized that he was genuinely happy about such a small thing.
Chi Chen's heart sank, his joy replaced by a chilling embarrassment and self-doubt.
Was he being teased like a dog?
It feels like Xu Yan knows something.
No, that's impossible. My plan was flawless; no one could believe such a coincidence.
"bite."
The sound of the elevator arriving interrupted Chi Chen's thoughts.
Xu Yan asked for the room number, walked to the door, and then held out her hand, saying, "Give it to me."
"What?" Chi Chen paused. "Let me open the door."
After saying that, he swiped his card to open the door and walked in smoothly. He then started tidying up the bedding, adjusting the air conditioner, and drawing the curtains on the balcony.
Watching the other person bustling around in her room, Xu Yan stood at the door and somewhat displeasedly gave them the order to leave, "You can go back now."
Chi Chen turned his head, looking bewildered yet natural, and asked, "Going back where? Aren't you staying here tonight?"
The air fell silent for a moment.
Xu Yan quickly scanned the room and finally realized that Chi Chen had booked a twin room.
Are you in such a hurry?
Strangely, Xu Yan was not angry at being tricked.
After all, he didn't dislike being touched by Chi Chen and even hoped that the other party could take things further.
Xu Yan went inside, closed the door behind her, and then hung up her suit.
Then he raised his hand and slowly took off his tie.
Chi Chen's gaze unconsciously followed his fingers as he casually unbuttoned his shirt, revealing a patch of snow-white skin at the collar.
Xu Yan looked at Chi Chen, who was staring straight at her, and deliberately paused for a moment before the other man came to his senses. Then she smiled slightly and said in a gentle tone with a hint of brotherly concern, "So, little Chi is afraid to sleep in a room by himself?"
