Chapter 23 Braised Beef

At the end of January, there were still many people infected with the virus.

A cure or injection has not yet been developed. However, there have been no new deaths for two consecutive days.

"It seems the virus is slowly being controlled..."

However, none of this affects her ability to cook.

The food in the space can last her a long time.

After lunch, we prepared several sharp knives to prepare a cow for dinner.

A large table was set up in the kitchen. After the cow was thrown onto it, they prepared to begin the dissection.

First, the cowhide was peeled off with a knife. This process took more than an hour, but it was still successful. Next, the cow's head and four calves were cut off by Feng Ran using a chainsaw.

The moment the cow's stomach was cut open, its intestines and other contents gushed out and fell directly to the ground.

To be honest, the smell was really strong! And there was blood everywhere.

"This is too much trouble. I'm never doing it myself again."

While complaining, Feng Ran grabbed a large plastic bag, packed the cow's head and internal organs together, and threw it into her spatial storage.

As for the four cow hooves, she simply burned off the hair with fire, then stewed them in a pot with some ingredients to remove the fishy smell. She planned to let Jinbao gnaw on them.

The next step, peeling off the slippery body, is simple.

She simply shaved off any parts with meat. Even though the bones still had a lot of meat stuck to them, Feng Ran didn't care.

Put the meat in a big pile.

The bones were piled up. They were too big, so I used a chainsaw to cut them into smaller pieces.

The beef shanks are quite good. Put the blanched beef directly into a bowl, soak it in water first, and then braise it later.

The others took out large plastic basins, filled seven basins with meat and bones, and placed them directly into the space.

Nothing preserves food better than air.

It wasn't until evening that the odor was finally dealt with; the floor was mopped, and the tables were wiped down. The kitchen window was opened to air out the smell.

Then the pot containing the beef hooves was removed and set aside to cool.

He then started braising beef.

All the ingredients are included. There are even plenty of spice packets, which I got from a spice shop before.

The beef shank, which had been soaked in blood-soaked water, was not blanched before being directly braised.

It also includes a spice packet, some ginger, scallions, garlic, and other seasonings. I even added fermented bean paste, sweet bean sauce, honey…

I made a big pot and put it directly on the stove to braise slowly.

After braising, let it soak in the braising liquid overnight; it will be absolutely flavorful the next day.

I was tired in the evening, so I just grabbed two roujiamo (Chinese hamburgers) and a cup of Babaolong tea.

Then I went to bed and slept.

Starting the following day, Feng Ran officially entered the planting instance.

She did not stock up on vegetables.

If we don't plant them now, it won't be convenient to eat them next time.

The vegetables that Jixiang had eaten were left with only withered branches and leaves growing in the ground.

There's no other way but to till the land once.

Fortunately, she has the machine. After using it a few times, she's now quite adept at using it.

The vegetable planting area is actually not very large compared to the area where the goods are stored. Originally, we planned to plant about 20 mu (approximately 3.3 hectares), but as more and more goods were stored, the area gradually shrank, and now it's about 10 mu (approximately 1.65 hectares).

In the past, seeds were scattered randomly, but now they need to be carefully planned.

Plant a batch of various melon seeds first, and don't forget the vegetable seeds too.

It took more than ten days to finish.

Living alone can be boring, but for someone like Feng Ran who's used to being alone, it's not a big deal.

They live a leisurely life. It's just that Jinbao always wants to run away.

Fengran was tired of raising chickens at home, so she chose a sunny day to slaughter the chickens, boil water, scald the feathers, and so on.

Then I stewed two old hens, and the whole family, including the dog, enjoyed a delicious meal together. And let me tell you, it really did smell amazing!

"Damn it... why didn't they send it after everyone was dead?"

Not only did Feng Ran complain, but the internet was also flooded with criticism. However, after the criticism subsided, everyone still obediently registered and went to select the ingredients they needed.

Feng Ran hadn't registered. She wasn't short of food and didn't want to be bothered by others delivering groceries. However, she still clicked the link to take a look.

It's an online grocery shopping platform.

The only fruits available were apples and oranges. The vegetables were just some leafy greens, Chinese cabbage, daikon radish, potatoes, taro, and other common vegetables that are relatively easy to store.

The meat was frozen pork. There was also some frozen seafood.

However, the price is several times higher than the previous market price.

People placed their orders amidst grumbling and cursing, and then went online to leave equally grumbling comments.

With just over ten days until the New Year, Fengran, having nothing to do during the day, started planning for the house. She decided to begin with a thorough cleaning.

The walls in the living room on the first floor are quite greasy and blackened from the stove, but there's nothing we can do about it. It's dirty, but so be it. We can always hire someone to clean it or repaint the walls later.

Jinbao washes his own clothes by hand. He also throws his own clothes and bedding into the washing machine.

The whole yard was baked in the bright sunshine.

The virus is now under control. Fengran no longer prevents Jinbao from playing in the yard. He also takes a walk around the yard by himself every day.

However, she recently noticed some unusual phenomena...

The evergreen trees outside the yard seem to have lost a lot of leaves, and many of them have turned yellow.

The strangest thing is that at this time of year, the wild grasses and vegetables that should be growing are nowhere to be seen...

There was no wild shepherd's purse, no dandelions, and no wild grasses at all...

The ground in the yard was eerily quiet...

Before going to bed that night, Feng Ran started searching for answers online... and she actually found some things.

[Xiao Chen from the countryside: Has anyone noticed that we haven't been digging for wild vegetables this year?]
