Chapter 17: Beautiful Stepmother vs. Stepson's Two-Way Redemption (17)

Yun Lian pushed him away with a finger, her expression gentle yet distant.

Huo Ye grabbed Yun Lian's fingers, his voice filled with anger: "What do you mean I won't be the father of the child? Yun Lian, besides me, who else do you want to be with?"

"Who knows? Alright, stop dawdling, it's time to go back."

Yun Lian and Huo Ye argued as they turned around, but when they turned back, they saw Song Zhu.

"Officer Song, what a coincidence, you're also making a wish?"

Song Zhu came over to say hello.

"I never expected that we would meet here. Look, last time you fell into the station, I was just about to help you take it back, but I didn't expect to run into you here."

Yun Lian took the hairband from his hand. Last time she used it to beat someone up, she completely forgot it was even there.

"Thank you, Officer Song. I'll treat you to dinner sometime when I get back."

Huo Ye stood to the side, radiating coldness, and looked at Song Zhu with a critical eye.

Oh.

Does she like this type?

Huo Ye's gaze was hard to ignore; due to her profession, Song Zhu could easily distinguish people's likes and dislikes.

"Let's make an appointment another time when we have time. I won't bother you anymore. I'll head over now."

Goodbye, Officer Song.

Goodbye, Miss Yun.

When Yun Lian came down the mountain, her legs were a little weak, and she walked very slowly.

Huo Ye said sarcastically, "What? Officer Song was waiting for you on purpose? Yun Lian, how come I didn't know you had such a familiar police friend before?"

"Huo Ye, you're the one who said to keep your distance, but you're also the one who keeps trying to intrude into my private life."

Huo Ye, what exactly do you want?

"I didn't mean anything by it, I just hope you don't suddenly find me a stepfather."

"That's really funny. Your father and I have never slept together, nor have we registered our marriage. Why should I be a widow for your father?"

"If you like managing people, then please find yourself a girlfriend and don't waste your extra energy on me."

Huo Ye didn't know why his words had such a strong effect on her.

Even someone as eloquent as him would find himself speechless in Yun Lian's hands.

"If that's how you think, then there's nothing I can do."

Huo Ye walked forward angrily, completely ignoring Yun Lian behind him.

Yun Lian really couldn't understand what he was thinking; his thoughts were even harder to fathom than a woman's.

Due to insufficient physical strength, Yun Lian's walking speed slowed down, and a long distance grew between the two of them.

Yun Lian had just caught her breath when, not far below her, a child slipped through the railing while the adults weren't looking, and below was a steep slope.

"Hey parent who's drinking water, your child is about to fall in!"

As Yun Lian called out, she also ran downhill at top speed.

When the child's father heard the shouts, he was terrified when he saw his child, who was covered in water.

The father's instinct made him grab the child immediately, but half of his body was off the railing, with only his legs gripping it tightly. At any moment, the father and son could fall together.

The child suddenly fell and was suspended in mid-air. When he came to his senses, he instinctively twisted and turned. The sudden force almost made his father fall. Yun Lian rushed over and hugged the child's father.

He didn't even notice the long, bloody scratch his arm made by rubbing against the railing.

The child's crying attracted the attention of passersby, and people who were going down the mountain started running back up. Those going down the mountain wished they had run faster.

They all ran toward the same destination. Yun Lian, who was already exhausted, suddenly felt many people start to pull the child's father away.

"Little girl, move aside, your hand is injured, let us help you."

The child was frightened and started screaming and moving around.

As Song Zhu descended the mountain, he suddenly saw a large group of people gathered together, and his keen intuition made him instinctively run towards them.

The child's father held onto the child tightly, but the sweat made the child almost slip from his grasp.

"Quick, push! The baby will fall out in a minute."

The gaps in the railing were very small, and Yun Lian, without catching her breath, forced herself to squeeze through them.

A burning pain shot through her shoulder, but Yun Lian couldn't care less at the moment.

Children are hope.

Standing outside the guardrail, you can see the steepness of the mountain below more clearly, which can almost make people faint.

Yun Lian couldn't even imagine how that father had managed to hold on for so long.

Yun Lian slowly and painstakingly explored the area.

"Little friend, don't be afraid. Give your hand to Auntie, and Auntie and your dad will take you home together."

The child's vision was blurred by tears, and seeing the blood on his father made him even more distressed.

"Sister, don't save me, save Dad first, he's bleeding."

The child's father almost gritted his teeth and insisted: "Deng Jia, are you a man? If you are a man, try to give your hand to your sister so that she and Dad can pull you up together."

"Your name is Deng Jia, right? Give me your hand. If you don't try harder, your father will bleed more. You don't want him to be in pain, right?"

"I don't want Dad to bleed, sister, I'll pull you up."

The child struggled to reach Yun Lian, and when she finally reached the child, Yun Lian was almost pulled down by the inertia.

A strong hand suddenly appeared behind her: "Miss Yun, hold on tight to me."

Yun Lian and the child's father worked together to pull the child inside. When the child was finally rescued, the child's father, disregarding his injuries, knelt on the ground with the child in his arms.

"Thank you all for your help. Without your assistance, my son might... Please leave your contact information; I will definitely thank you!"

Everyone waved and continued walking in the direction they had been heading.

"You're welcome. It was nothing. Anyone would have helped in this situation. Brother, remember to keep an eye on your child in the future and don't let him go into dangerous places."

"Yes, we weren't much of a help. If you want to thank someone, thank that young girl."

"Hey, where's that girl? I think her clothes are all torn."
