Chapter 55 The stolen kiss was discovered
For several days, the entire capital city was bustling with activity, but Yan Yize and Shang Xu remained peaceful and undisturbed by the storms outside. Their feelings for each other deepened during these tranquil and warm days.
The imperial edict arrived on a sunny afternoon when the two were resting in a stone pavilion in the middle of the lake. Under the bright spring sunshine, the lake surface shimmered, reflecting the red pillars, green tiles, and upturned eaves of the pavilion.
Inside the pavilion, Shang Xu sat upright, holding a book in his hands, studying it intently. Behind him, Yan Yize sat languidly, leaning back casually, with a book on her face. Her breathing was steady, as if she were asleep.
A gentle spring breeze swept by, ruffling the pages of the book. Shang Xu looked up from his book, perhaps a little tired from reading. He put down the book, rubbed his dry eyes, and looked into the distance.
The pavilion offered a superb view, and all the surrounding scenery came into view as soon as he looked up. Shang Xu was lost in admiring the view for a while, and the discomfort in his eyes was completely relieved. He then belatedly realized that he hadn't heard her voice for quite some time.
Shang Xu turned around and saw her sleeping with a book covering her face. He couldn't help but smile gently, and a feeling of happiness welled up in his heart.
He got up and tiptoed to her side. After hesitating for a moment, he carefully reached out and removed the book covering her face. Her alluring beauty made the surrounding scenery pale in comparison.
Shang Xu's breath hitched. His gaze slowly and meticulously swept over her picturesque eyebrows and eyes, finally settling on her thin, crimson lips, and he was momentarily lost in thought.
He couldn't help but recall the softness of those crimson lips on his body. Shang Xu couldn't help but swallow, as if bewitched. He couldn't help but lean down. They were already asleep, so a little light touch shouldn't be noticed, right?
Besides, she had kissed him so many times, it was perfectly reasonable for him to steal a kiss from her once. Shang Xu cheered himself up in his heart, his eyes fixed on her full, red lips, and naturally he didn't notice Yan Yize's eyes opening and closing.
Yan Yize had been feigning sleep. She noticed his presence the moment he approached, thinking he was going to wake her. But he simply moved the book away carefully and then did nothing more.
Feeling his gaze fixed on her, Yan Yize thought she had been caught pretending to be asleep, so she opened her eyes. The moment she saw his expression, she realized she was wrong and quickly closed them again.
Yan Yize wanted to know what he would do if she didn't wake up.
Shang Xu's heart was pounding. He suppressed his shyness and quickly leaned down to lightly touch her lips. The movement was so swift that if Yan Yize hadn't been squinting at him, he wouldn't have believed that a kiss had landed on her lips.
Feeling guilty, Shang Xu was about to get up and leave when a hand grabbed him. With a strong pull, he lost control and fell into a very familiar embrace.
He looked up and met a pair of smiling eyes. Her eyes were clear, without the hazy feeling one would have when just waking up. Shang Xu immediately understood that she hadn't fallen asleep at all.
Then she must have discovered what he just did. With a sliver of hope, he stammered in a low voice, "You...you saw everything?"
Yan Yize lifted his chin with his fingertips, making him look directly at him. He raised an eyebrow, smiled without saying a word, and everything was understood without being spoken.
In an instant, Shang Xu felt his face burning. Being caught stealing a kiss was incredibly embarrassing. If he could, he wished a hole would appear in the ground.
Yan Yize straightened up and kissed him on the lips, saying with great pleasure, "There's no need to be sneaky, it's not like I won't let you kiss me."
Shang Xu blushed and tried his best to defend himself, "I didn't, I didn't."
"Alright, alright." Yan Yize chuckled indulgently. "It's not that you don't have it, it's that I want to kiss you."
As soon as he finished speaking, the hand on his waist tightened, and he couldn't help but press down, their lips meeting. Yan Yize closed his eyes and kissed him without any hesitation, giving him no chance to speak.
