Chapter 11 is about her leaving the city...
Once outside the city, the horses slowed down; the night was pitch black and visibility was low, to prevent any accidents.
Inside the carriage, Yan Yize had been in the same position for a long time, and her neck was sore, but she was completely unaware of it. She lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on the jade pendant, but her mind was no longer on it.
The carriage traveled for a long time in the darkness, but there was still no news. Yan Yize's brows furrowed deeper, and a hint of irritation appeared in her eyes. Just as she was considering whether to summon the people hiding in the shadows, Huixue brought news.
"Your Highness, there seems to be a carriage ahead."
Upon hearing this, Yan Yize steadied himself, his calm eyes revealing no emotion, but a hint of urgency could be detected. "Go and take a look."
"yes."
The sound of horses' hooves and wheels rolling was very clear in the inky night. Even though he was far away, Shang Xu could still hear it. He looked up in confusion, frowned, and a look of doubt appeared in his eyes. Why would there be a carriage coming out of the city so late?
But he only wondered for a second or two. He didn't know, didn't want to know, and had no interest in investigating. Shang Xu closed his eyes again and pretended to sleep. He didn't want to delve into things that had nothing to do with him. From beginning to end, he never thought that they would come looking for him. He knew his situation and naturally wouldn't have any extravagant hopes.
"Young master, shall we go out and take a look?" Qingzhu kept peeking outside curiously and couldn't help but suggest in a low voice.
Shang Xu refused with his eyes closed, "No need."
He paused for a moment, then added, "If you want to see it, you can go see it for yourself."
"Thank you, young master." Qingzhu's low spirits immediately lifted. This place was desolate and boring, but at least it had some fun. After saying that, she couldn't wait to get off the carriage.
As the carriage drew closer, the lanterns hanging above the eaves cast a dim light, but it was enough for Huixue to make out the style of the carriage parked by the roadside. She recognized it immediately as the carriage belonging to the manor and became excited. All the way there, she had been blaming herself. If it weren't for her negligence, how could such an accident have happened?
"Your Highness, it's the manor's carriage."
Upon hearing this, Yan Yize gave a soft "hmm." Although she didn't show much emotional fluctuation, the frown that had been on her face all the way eased. Shang Xu was now her husband, and for both emotional and rational reasons, she didn't want anything to happen to him.
When the carriage was about ten feet away, Huixue pulled hard on the reins, and the chestnut horse snorted softly and slowly came to a stop.
Qingzhu was standing by the carriage, looking around curiously. He spotted Huixue immediately and recognized her. Startled, he hurriedly jumped onto the carriage, pulled back the curtain, and poked his head inside, saying impatiently, "Young master, young master, it's His Highness's carriage."
Shang Xu lifted his eyelids and slowly opened his eyes, looking at him in confusion, completely failing to understand his meaning. In his subconscious, Yan Yi would not appear here.
More precisely, he was convinced that no one would be here because of him.
"Qingzhu, what are you talking about?" he asked, frowning.
Qingzhu looked at him excitedly, her eyes brimming with undisguised excitement. With her master being favored, her own status would rise accordingly. Moreover, she also harbored her own little schemes.
"Young master, this is His Highness's carriage."
His face lit up with a smile, and he said happily, "Your Highness must have come to see the young master."
When Yan Yize was mentioned, Shang Xu paused, lowered his head, and a sense of indescribable loneliness emanated from him. She had rejected him just half a month ago. Moreover, Yan Yize was not favored and had no real power, so how could he possibly appear? He was more inclined to believe that Qingzhu had misjudged him.
As they were talking, Yan Yize walked over. Qingzhu was about to greet him, but she stopped him with a gesture and waved for him to step back.
Just as Shang Xu was about to tell Qingzhu to stop talking nonsense, he saw Qingzhu suddenly retreat. Before he could ask why, the thin gauze curtain in front of him swayed gently, like spring water being stirred, and a corner of it was lifted.
The first thing that caught Shang Xu's eye was a beautiful hand, with distinct joints, slender and fair, and a delicate, luminous wrist. Even the finest jade would pale in comparison.
He had seen Qingzhu's hands before; these were not Qingzhu's hands.
The words Qingzhu had just spoken echoed in his mind, and Shang Xu's heart suddenly raced. He subconsciously held his breath, and his hands, which were hanging down on his lap, clenched involuntarily. Under his nervous and uneasy gaze, the person behind the curtain was gradually revealed, every part of her as if created by nature, breathtakingly beautiful.
Time slowed down at this moment, each second felt like an eternity, as if a century had passed. The curtain was then completely lifted, and Shang Xu saw a person, someone he thought could never possibly be here—Yan Yize.
It's her.
