Master Xu

Master Xu

The Gate of Immortality.

When Sect Leader Xu Ximing heard from the disciple guarding the Soul Lamp that the Enforcement Elder's Soul Lamp had gone out, he was stunned and rushed over to check.

The soul lamps of all those who went to the demon realm with Li Ruyue went out, proving that none of them survived leaving the demon realm.

It's one thing for others, but Xu Ximing simply couldn't believe that a master like Li Ruyue had fallen to the demon race. However, the Changsheng Sect had no connections among the demon race, so he couldn't find any information about her.

After several days of anxious and restless deliberation, Xu Ximing wanted to see the Venerable One to ask what to do next. At that moment, a disciple came to report that Immortal Venerable Mu Qing of the Zhuxian Sect had come to visit.

Upon hearing the name Mu Qing, Xu Ximing was momentarily dazed before remembering the person's identity and hurriedly went out to greet her.

Upon seeing the person, Xu Ximing's eyes flickered slightly, and he stepped forward with a smile to greet him, "Immortal Venerable Mu, what brings you here so suddenly?"

Mu Qing hasn't left the Immortal Pursuit Sect much these past few years, so what's he doing at the Longevity Sect?

With questions in his mind, Xu Ximing asked someone to go to the main hall to rest.

Looking at the numerous mirrors decorating the Changsheng Sect, Mu Qing casually asked, "Are there many cultivators in the Changsheng Sect who use mirrors as magical artifacts?"

Along the way, you can see mirrors whenever you look up, and the mirrors are all different styles. Even for cultivation, you don't need so many.

Xu Ximing, unaware of his purpose, chuckled and dodged the question, saying, "In recent years, the sect has frequently encountered troubles. A wandering cultivator taught me to use mirrors to change the feng shui. I thought it wasn't a difficult task, so I tried placing some."

The outrageous words made Wen Zheng glance at the Changsheng Sect Master again. Didn't he want to laugh when he said such a lie?

They're all cultivators, why do they still believe in feng shui?

Wen Zheng looked at Mu Qing, wanting to see how he would respond. Mu Qing didn't speak, but nodded to indicate that he understood.

Xu Ximing led his men to the main hall. The Changsheng Sect was much smaller than the Zhuxian Sect, and the main hall was decorated in an elegant and simple style. However, the mirrors placed in various corners disrupted the harmony.

The mirrors were polished to an impeccable smoothness. When a person stood in front of them, the mole hidden between their eyebrows could be clearly seen. Each mirror faced a different direction, as if the images reflected in the mirrors suddenly appeared before their eyes. Wen Zheng rubbed her eyes uncomfortably.

How strange, I'm getting goosebumps all over.

Wen Zheng forced herself to look away and concentrate on listening to Mu Qing's conversation with the leader of the Changsheng Sect.

Mu Qing took out the token he had obtained in the demon realm and said, "A few days ago, I took my junior sister to the demon race and accidentally found the waist tokens of the Changsheng Sect disciples. I thought I would bring them over on the way back to the sect."

He took out several tokens from the Longevity Sect one by one. Xu Ximing picked up one of the tokens with a grim expression and tried to use a secret method to investigate the token owner's life experiences, but unfortunately, he found nothing.

With Li Ruyue's safety at stake, Xu Ximing asked rashly, "Has Immortal Venerable Mu seen any disciples of the Longevity Sect?"

The soul lamps of that group went out suddenly, catching him off guard. The soul lamps of ordinary disciples would simply go out if they did, but Li Ruyue's soul lamp went out as well.

It should be noted that Li Ruyue appears to be at the Nascent Soul stage, but in reality, she has already entered the Divine Transformation stage or above, and there are almost no people in the immortal sects who can kill her.

Even the renowned Immortal Venerable Mu Qing only has the cultivation level of the Nascent Soul stage. If someone with such a low cultivation level can still be called an Immortal Venerable, the cultivation world will be doomed sooner or later.

Xu Ximing secretly grumbled to himself, but his eyes were fixed on Mu Qing's reaction.

Mu Qing had long since mastered the art of remaining calm in public, and said indifferently, "I didn't see them. My junior sister and I found these tokens at the market. We thought they were human items, so we bought them."

Unable to obtain any useful information, Xu Ximing said awkwardly, "Imperial Venerable, I am sorry to trouble you. There was indeed a group of disciples from our sect who went to the demon race to handle some matters, but I discovered a couple of days ago that all of their soul lamps had been extinguished."

"Really? I didn't know that." Mu Qing said with an unchanged expression, "When my junior sister and I returned from the demon race, we heard that the demon race's Grand Elder had died, and the new Grand Elder seems to be Zhu Que from Mingguang City."

"really?!!"

Xu Ximing stood up in shock, his eyes wide, and hurriedly asked, "The demon race has been peaceful for so many years, why is it suddenly in chaos? Is there a conspiracy?"

As he spoke, his eyes glanced at Mu Qing again, scrutinizing his reaction.

Mu Qing shook her head: "I don't know."

After looking for a while and not finding anything, Xu Ximing was furious, but he pretended to be a good person and said, "I will send a disciple to investigate the information about the demon race. I will trouble Immortal Venerable Mu to come and take a trip."

Unable to get any information, Xu Ximing planned to see his guest off. Mu Qing, unusually, did not get up and said, "Actually, I came to Changsheng Sect with another matter I would like to trouble Sect Leader Xu with."

Mu Qing took the initiative to ask for help, but Xu Ximing was impatient and didn't want to engage with him. He smiled and declined, saying, "Immortal Venerable Mu is highly skilled and a leader among the immortal sects. Is there anything you can't do?"

He praised Mu Qing so highly with just one sentence, and he didn't believe Mu Qing could find a reason to ask him for help.

"Sect Leader Xu, you flatter me. I am just an ordinary person and do not have the ability to know everything or do anything. Only Sect Leader Xu can help me with this matter." Mu Qing's expression did not change. Instead, she lowered her posture and spoke very eloquently.

Wen Zheng, watching from the side, was completely bewildered. It was the first time she had ever heard Mu Qing say something like that. Her eyebrows twitched as she stared at Mu Qing.

To be honest, she also wanted to know what it was that required Mu Qing to lower herself and beg for help.

Xu Ximing really didn't want to help, but Mu Qing's words struck a chord with him, making it impossible for him to refuse.

The Changsheng Sect was just average to begin with, and his position as sect leader was neither good nor bad. People always compared him and belittled him. This was the first time someone had said that only he could help.

Xu Ximing's confidence swelled, and he coughed twice to cover his smugness, saying, "My strength is average. If I cannot satisfy the Immortal Venerable, I hope the Immortal Venerable will not blame me."

"No, Sect Leader Xu will definitely be able to help with this," Mu Qing said with a deep look in her eyes.

He took out the mirror fragment that the sect leader had given him and said, "I found this fragment on a demon spy who infiltrated the Immortal Pursuit Sect, but I haven't been able to find out its origin. Does Sect Leader Xu have a way to find out?"

Not a word of his was true. Mu Qing secretly observed Xu Ximing's expression. When he saw the shards of the mirror, his pupils suddenly contracted, as if he had seen some kind of monstrous flood.

Xu Ximing stared stiffly at the fragments, a chill running down his spine as he recalled what he had done. He unconsciously shifted his body and turned his head away.

Mu Qing pushed the shards of mirror slightly towards Xu Ximing, "I wonder what Sect Leader Xu's opinion is?"

"Huh? Insight? I don't know." Xu Ximing waved his hand and kept shrinking back, as if he was afraid of something.

His unusual behavior caught Wen Zheng's attention. She took out a talisman from under the table, intending to secretly stick it on.

"Is that so?" Mu Qing seemed indifferent to the mirror shards. Xu Ximing said he didn't know, so he didn't press further. Instead, he picked up the shards and prepared to leave.

A flustered Xu Ximing called out to him, "The weather outside is not good. Why don't you stay the night, Immortal Venerable Mu, and leave tomorrow morning?"

Mu Qing didn't speak, but looked at Wen Zheng, indicating that Wen Zheng should make the decision.

Wen Zheng glanced at Mu Qing, understood his meaning, and smiled innocently, "Okay, senior brother, let's rest for the night. It's too tiring to rush back to the sect overnight."

The innocent and naive tone made Wen Zheng's face contort with rage, but fortunately, she had her back to Xu Ximing, so he couldn't see her.

Mu Qing looked down at Wen Zheng's distorted face, and her heavy mood improved a little. She said, "Don't be rude. Staying here is too much of a disturbance to Headmaster Xu. Let's go back and deal with important matters as soon as possible."

Wen Zheng pretended to be unhappy and lowered her head. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Xu Ximing looking anxious and trying to persuade her to stay, and she almost laughed.

"Immortal Mu, please stay for the night. I remember seeing this mirror fragment somewhere before. I'll go and look through some ancient books later to see if there are any clues." Xu Ximing had to throw out bait in order to keep the two of them there.

Mu Qing raised her eyes, looking at him coldly: "Didn't Sect Leader Xu say he hadn't seen it before? Now you remember?"

His persistent questioning caused sweat to bead on Xu Ximing's forehead. He didn't bother to wipe it away and said, "Being old, one's memory is bound to be poor. Why don't you stay, Immortal Venerable?"

Seeing that Mu Qing was being pushed to the limit, Wen Zheng quietly tugged at his sleeve, reminding him not to go too far.

After pretending to hesitate for a long time, Mu Qing finally decided, "Since Sect Leader Xu has clues about the mirror fragments, then I'll trouble you to search carefully."

"It's not hard work at all," Xu Ximing quickly replied.

Having successfully kept the two people there, Xu Ximing breathed a sigh of relief and had someone take them to rest. He then casually picked up a mirror and talked to the person in it.

"Your Majesty, Mu Qing has a fragment of the Soul-Devouring Mirror." Xu Ximing's face was frighteningly pale.

A black figure suddenly appeared in the mirror that had been reflecting the scenery, and said in a strange voice, "Fragments of the Soul-Devouring Mirror? Shall we find out where they came from?"

Xu Ximing: "I didn't ask."

The person in the mirror showed no sign of tension and calmly said, "He only has one fragment, why are you panicking?"

The Soul-Devouring Mirror is something from tens of thousands of years ago, and very few people in the cultivation world know about it. The person in the mirror is not worried that Mu Qing will find out.

“I’m not worried. But in order to keep them here, I lied to them and said that I knew the origin of the mirror fragments. I’m just worried…” Xu Ximing hesitated and looked at the person in the mirror.

The unfinished words made the person in the mirror laugh out loud, and he said disdainfully, "Xu Ximing, have you been the sect leader for too long and ruined your brain?"

So what if Mu Qing knows? He knows very little about this kind of thing. With only a fragment, black can be called white, and the dead can be called alive. He can just make up something to fool people.

Xu Ximing didn't understand the meaning of the person in the mirror, and pressed for an answer: "What should I do?"

The person in the mirror snorted in anger at his stupid appearance and disappeared from the mirror.

Xu Ximing waited for a long time with his body bent over, but there was no movement. He looked up and saw that the person in the mirror had disappeared at some point, leaving him kneeling and waiting like a fool.

Xu Ximing got up and went to the library with a gloomy expression. He had promised Mu Qing that he had to put on a show.

Inside the room, Wen Zheng waited by the door for a while, and after making sure no one was eavesdropping, she walked over to Mu Qing and asked, "You were like you had been possessed just now."

It doesn't look like him.

Mu Qing paused for a moment, then said, "Is there?"

Wen Zheng: Yes.

"...That's not important." Mu Qing changed the subject and asked, "Now that I've finished what I needed to do, when are you planning to make your move?"

After he finished speaking, he looked at Wen Zheng, waiting for her command to make his move.

Wen Zheng was taken aback by his description and said in a low voice, "Tonight."

Mu Qing asked in surprise, "So soon?"

Taking action on the very first night is not in line with Wen Zheng's cautious nature.

"Let's finish this quickly," Wen Zheng said. "You come and help me, so we can finish this sooner and go back."

This was the first time Wen Zheng had asked him for help, and Mu Qing readily agreed, asking in a good mood, "What do you need it for?"

Wen Zheng: "Go to Li Ruyue's room, I want to find something."
