Save the child
The Mingguang City Lord's Mansion.
Xiao Ze had just finished feeding his friend the medicine when the other person woke up. The first thing the friend said was, "Have you caught the person who injured me?"
Xiao Ze had someone help him up, "He ran away, he ran too fast, we couldn't catch him."
Just as the city lord was about to speak, blood spurted from his mouth. He tried to cover it with his hand, but he couldn't stop the blood from flowing out.
"Calm down, I sent my friend to gather herbs for you, he should be back soon." Xiao Ze dragged the doctor who was waiting outside in, and the gray-haired doctor tremblingly took out medicine to stop the city lord's bleeding.
With medicine stuffed into his mouth, the city lord mumbled, "Isn't there medicine in the pharmacy?"
He was, after all, a prominent figure among the demon race, and having lived for so many years, what medicinal herbs did he not possess?
“It was ruined by that person.” Xiao Ze said lightly, and then picked up the documents on the table and placed them by the bedside. “Now that you’re awake, you can take care of these things. I’ll go and reinforce the seal near the feather fan first.”
The city lord picked up the documents to process them, nodded, and said nothing.
Xiao Ze led several demons skilled in formations to Mingcui Pavilion, where the peacock feather fan was kept, along with the guards.
He entered Mingcui Pavilion with the city lord's token. Many things inside were broken, as if shattered by a heavy object. Xiao Ze glanced around and quickly led his men to where the feather fan was.
Fortunately, the seals around the feather fan were intact, but the outer layers of seals had been damaged by human intervention.
"Reinforce the seal, and remember, the more complex the better." Xiao Ze gave the order, and several demons began to repair the seal.
Xiao Ze walked around the feather fan, looking at the signs of repeated damage around it, and his heart sank.
These past few days, he's been worried that person might come to ambush Zhuque again, so he's been staying by Zhuque's side. Before Zhuque woke up, he had already received a message from the elder saying that a human cultivator had broken into the demon realm and was ruthless, and he didn't know if it was that person.
Judging from the frequency of that person's attacks over the past few days, their target should be the peacock feather fan, and their attack on the Vermilion Bird was to remove this obstacle.
If he weren't in Mingguang City, Zhuque would probably be dead.
He is now severely poisoned, and it is unknown whether Wen Zheng and her junior brother have successfully collected the medicine.
He was lost in thought when a fight suddenly broke out outside, and a woman in black appeared. Xiao Ze was startled, went outside, drew his natal weapon, and said coldly, "It's you again."
The person who injured Suzaku has reappeared.
The woman remained silent, her iron rod striking with tremendous force, knocking all the guards to the ground.
Seeing that he couldn't reason with the other party, Xiao Ze blocked their path, saying, "If you want the feather fan, you'll have to get past me first."
He attacked the woman, his imposing aura making it hard for her to breathe. The moment his weapon touched her, she turned into scraps of paper, which scattered in the wind.
Origami becomes human!
Oh no!!
Xiao Ze turned around abruptly and ran towards the feather fan. The moment he opened the door, the woman held the peacock feather fan in her hand and smiled innocently, "It seems you've discovered it."
The smugness in his voice was impossible to hide.
Xiao Ze gripped his weapon tightly, his eyes filled with ruthlessness, and his cultivation level slowly increased, as if he had unlocked some kind of forbidden power.
A sense of foreboding washed over Li Ruyue. Just as she was about to grab her feather fan and run away, the magic circle beneath her feet lit up. In the next instant, she vanished from everyone's sight, the feather fan falling to the ground and kicking up dust.
Watching the person disappear before his eyes, Xiao Ze's face was extremely ugly. He was like a deflated balloon, and the oppressive aura around him vanished.
He took two steps forward, hesitantly picked up the feather fan, his face full of doubt. Several demons lying in the corner spoke up: "Lord Xiao, that person is trapped inside the feather fan by an array."
"Contained inside a feather fan?"
The demon nodded and explained, "This was set up by the city lord to prevent someone from stealing the feather fan."
Mentioning his friend's formation, Xiao Ze's suppressed emotions dissipated. "When will she come out?"
"This... I don't know. The city lord placed a formation inside that makes people recall painful memories of the past. If you can get through it, you can get out."
"Okay, I understand." Xiao Ze put the feather fan back in its original place and sat down to keep watch.
He would make his move as soon as the opponent appeared.
He's just stalling for time now. If the other party comes out, he might not be able to hold them off; if Wen Zheng comes back first, he'll have a chance.
Xiao Ze, holding the feather fan, sighed.
Wen Zheng sneezed as he kept nagging her. She took out a handkerchief to wipe her mouth and continued throwing barrier talismans towards the cave entrance.
She had oversimplified things. The last breakthrough was quick and easy, but she didn't expect it to be so difficult this time. She had clearly reached the threshold of the Nascent Soul stage, but she just couldn't break through.
Helpless, she could only draw talismans to block the wolf pack's attack while waiting for Mu Qing to recover.
"How much longer?" Wen Zheng felt a bit exhausted. The spiritual energy in her body was only flowing in and not out, and she couldn't hold on for much longer.
"Now." As soon as Mu Qing finished speaking, she slashed down the wolves that were rushing in with a single sword stroke.
The cave entrance wasn't large, and the entire wolf pack blocked it. With one strike of his sword, almost half of the wolves were killed, and the splattered blood covered Wen Zheng.
The stench filled her entire body. Wen Zheng suppressed the urge to scream, turned to look at Mu Qing, and glared at her fiercely with her clear black and white eyes.
Mu Qing paused, his hand about to draw his sword again. He was silent for a moment, then said, "I'm sorry."
"Is this something that can be resolved with just an apology?" Wen Zheng was so angry that she could hardly breathe and her body was trembling. If the situation weren't so urgent, she would have given Mu Qing a good beating.
She's so angry!!!
Mu Qing quickly dealt with the wolves at the cave entrance, wiped the wolf blood off Wen Zheng's face with his sleeve, and the stench made him hold his breath and back away.
Wen Zheng naturally noticed his little actions, lifted her foot and stepped on the local boot, then rubbed it hard.
A barely perceptible pain shot through the instep, but even before the pain, the other person's soft soles felt. Wen Zheng had modified the boots issued by the sect because they were too uncomfortable, removing the thick soles, making the sensation of stepping on someone particularly noticeable.
Feet are a private part that should never be seen by others, and Mu Qing has never liked being touched by anyone. Now, feeling Wen Zheng's feet playing tricks on his instep, it felt like being burned by fire, and he pulled his foot back sharply.
"Don't be silly. There was a river on the way here. Go wash up in there later."
After he finished speaking, he realized that his voice seemed a little hoarse, so he shut his mouth and stopped talking.
Wen Zheng wiped the blood off her face, glared at him, and said, "I know, hurry up and find someone."
She drew the Thousand-Mile Tracking Talisman once again. Just as she led the people out of the cave, she took a strand of hair. Compared to a mirror, hair was more accurate.
Wen Zheng and Mu Qing followed the butterfly to another cave, where they heard a child crying.
"You brat, stop crying! I'll strangle you if you cry again."
“What good are your threats against a child? Give him some medicine to calm him down.”
"Okay, I'll feed him a few more."
The conversation abruptly stopped. Wen Zheng and Mu Qing exchanged a glance and went into the cave.
Two men in white robes, one holding the child down, the other about to feed him medicine.
Mu Qing acted swiftly this time, piercing the white-robed man who was feeding him medicine with a single sword strike. Just as he was about to attack the other man, Wen Zheng had already taken the initiative and plunged her short sword into his neck.
"How can you feed a child so much medicine? Are you even human?" Wen Zheng complained as she caught the child who was about to fall.
The child had just broken free from the white-robed man's embrace when he saw a blood-covered person hugging him with a terrifying smile. He was so frightened that he cried out. As he cried, he smelled the man's stench and vomited between sobs.
Wen Zheng quickly let go of the child and pushed him into Mu Qing's arms, saying, "You comfort him."
Mu Qing sheathed her sword, held the child, and the two looked at each other for a long time. Mu Qing said dryly, "Don't cry."
The child turned his head away and cried even harder.
The entire cave was filled with the sound of a baby crying. Wen Zheng was getting a headache from all the crying. She rubbed her temples and shouted, "Stop crying! Mayor Zhao sent us to rescue you!"
Upon hearing Mayor Zhao's name, the child's crying subsided, becoming barely audible, as he whispered, "Really? Really?"
Wen Zheng nodded, her movements so large that a strand of hair from her temple fell onto her shoulder.
The child stopped crying, his little hands tightly wrapped around Mu Qing's neck, his eyes avoiding Wen Zheng's gaze.
Wen Zheng knew that her face was covered in blood and she must look terrifying. She glared at the culprit again and let out a cold snort.
Mu Qing sighed, tucked a strand of hair behind her shoulder, and said softly, "Let's go, why don't you go wash up first?"
Wen Zheng strode out of the cave and headed towards the river she had come from. Mu Qing, holding the child, looked back at the dead white-robed men on the ground and took the Changsheng Sect's waist tokens from their waists.
riverside.
Mu Qing and the child waited for a long time, but Wen Zheng did not return. He got up and took two steps towards the river. "How much longer until you're done?"
The only answers he received were the rushing sound of the river and the wild grass growing taller than a person on the riverbank.
Mu Qing took two more steps forward, listened intently, but still heard nothing. He grew impatient and paced back and forth for a while before deciding to go and check on the situation.
He walked very quickly, and when he reached the riverbank, he saw Wen Zheng squatting down, washing the bloodstains off her clothes. She had already changed into new clothes, and the clothes stained with wolf blood were being washed repeatedly in the water.
To make it easier to wash clothes, she sat on a protruding rock in the river, her feet shimmering in the water.
The white figure appeared and disappeared in the rolling river water, like a silver fish in the water. You had to look closely to know that it was a woman's foot.
Mu Qing stared blankly for a moment, as if she had seen something shameful, then glanced at the weeds beside her. "When will you be done washing?"
A voice came from behind. Wen Zheng wrung out the clothes in her hands and said, "Right away, bring me my shoes."
Her shoes weren't very dirty, so she didn't need to change them. To avoid getting them wet, she left them on the shore when she went into the water.
Mu Qing's gaze returned once more, and when he saw Wen Zheng, he quickly lowered his eyes, looked down, found her shoes on the shore, picked them up, and handed them to her.
"Your shoes."
Wen Zheng thanked her, took the clothes, put them on, stomped on the ground a couple of times, and then picked up her things. "Let's go."
The two returned to Lanshui Town with their child. When the town mayor saw them return at the town entrance, he was overjoyed and rushed to greet them.
"You two are finally back. I hope Xiaoyu didn't cause you any trouble," Mayor Zhao said, taking the child from their arms.
"It's alright, but we killed the two men who kidnapped him." After Wen Zheng finished speaking, she looked at Mayor Zhao: "Now can we have the evening primrose?"
Gathering herbs is really hard work.
"Of course, of course, you two stay here for now, and I'll take you to pick evening primrose tonight." Mayor Zhao held the child tightly, promising to give them the medicinal herbs.
"Tonight? Can't you give it to me now?" Wen Zheng thought of the city lord's flushed face before she came out, and wondered if he could wait.
When Mayor Zhao saw her ask this, he quickly explained, "It's not that I don't want to give it to you, but evening primroses can only be picked after the moon comes out at night. Would you two do me the honor of coming to my house for a meal first?"
Upon learning that the herbs would not be available until evening, Wen Zheng had no choice but to agree and follow Mayor Zhao across the town to his home.
Along the way, many demons paid attention to them, including demons with whom they had previous conflicts.
Wen Zheng quietly approached Mu Qing and warned, "Be careful they might make another move."
Mu Qing glanced around, and the demons who met his gaze all looked away.
Sensing something was amiss, Mu Qing walked behind Wen Zheng.
If there is any danger, he can block it in time.
