Sweet dreams

Sweet dreams

The Gate of Immortality.

Li Ruyue had just returned from outside when the sect leader summoned her. She was puzzled but did not ask why. "Sect leader, is there something important that I need to deal with?"

She was the one in the sect who handled the shady things, and she was busy dealing with various affairs every day. Very few people in the sect knew about her.

"There's something important I need you to handle," Xu Ximing, the sect leader of the Longevity Sect, said in a deep voice. He took out a portrait and handed it to Li Ruyue. "Go to the Demon Clan, take care of this person, and retrieve the Demon Clan's secret treasure while you're at it."

Li Ruyue opened the portrait, which depicted a young woman, bright and beautiful, with an unusual wooden bracelet on her wrist.

"Yes, Ruyue, I'll set off now." After saying that, Li Ruyue turned and left.

After he left, Xu Ximing took out his natal magic weapon, a bronze mirror. He lightly touched the mirror with his finger, and a human figure appeared on it.

"Your Excellency, the men have been dispatched and will soon resolve the trouble."

Xu Ximing's attitude in front of the mirror was extremely respectful. The sect leader of a sect was as submissive and humble as a servant in front of this person.

"Understood. Resolve it as soon as possible, don't be like that good-for-nothing Mingzhao, alerting the enemy." The person addressed as the Venerable One seemed very tired, speaking weakly.

"Yes, Your Majesty." Xu Ximing raised his head slightly. His Majesty's face was very pale and he advised, "Your Majesty, please take care of your health. With me here, I will definitely deal with this scourge, Wen Zheng."

The person on the other side of the mirror fell silent, ending their conversation.

Xu Ximing held the mirror, a ruthless glint in his eyes. He would not allow anyone to ruin the Venerable One's grand plan. After a moment's thought, he summoned several experts from the sect and ordered them to accompany Li Ruyue.

There absolutely cannot be any accidents on this trip.

Wangxian Valley.

Xiao Ze controlled the mechanical bird to land, then said to the two sleeping people, "Come down and rest for a while. I'll take you through the barrier tomorrow."

Wangxian Valley is the only passage between the human realm and the demon realm. The demons are heavily guarding it and will immediately kill any cultivators who forcibly enter the demon realm.

Wen Zheng rubbed her sleepy eyes and patted the person next to her, "Get up." Mu Qing opened her eyes, her gaze clear.

The three of them found a suitable spot and started a fire. Wen Zheng took out some steamed buns from her storage bag and handed them to the two of them. "Want some?"

She doesn't often bring food with her, and she only bought a large pile of steamed buns because the shop owner recommended them.

Xiao Ze casually picked up one and put it on the fire to roast. The plump white steamed bun was blackened by the firelight, and the outer shell was roasted to a crisp.

Wen Zheng handed the steamed bun to Mu Qing, "Senior brother, would you like some?"

Several days have passed, and she still can't get used to calling Mu Qing "Junior Brother." Just looking at him makes her feel extremely uncomfortable.

"Eat, thank you, senior sister." Mu Qing took it with a straight face and, like Xiao Ze, roasted it over the fire.

Hearing the term "senior sister" again, Wen Zheng finally understood why Mu Qing was always so wary when she called her "senior brother."

Because they really didn't have good intentions.

Seeing the harmonious interaction between the two, Xiao Ze smiled and said, "I've never seen such a good relationship between a senior sister and junior brother before. Speaking of which, you are both disciples of Immortal Venerable Mu?"

Wen Zheng looked up while biting into her steamed bun, hesitated for a moment, and then nodded. "That's right."

"What kind of person is he?" Xiao Ze was afraid of Mu Qing, but he was really curious about what kind of person he was in the eyes of his disciples.

Wen Zheng glanced at the look Mu Qing gave her, which seemed to be a warning. After considering it carefully, she said, "He should be a good person."

From the current perspective, this is somewhat rational.

If she were not in her right mind, she wouldn't be alive today.

"A good person?" Xiao Ze had never heard such an assessment before. He frowned and asked, "What kind of good person?"

After a moment of silence, Wen Zheng received another warning signal from Mu Qing and said with a forced smile, "A good person is a good person. Do we need to categorize them?"

“Yes, that makes sense.” Xiao Ze nodded, agreeing with Wen Zheng’s assessment.

The three of them sat by the fire, and after they finished eating the steamed buns in their hands, the moon had just hung in the branches. The firelight danced on their faces, the light and shadow shifting, and Wen Zheng's eyes became dry from the heat.

Sensing the silence, Wen Zheng took the initiative to start a conversation, "What was the method the demon race used to help me break the seal?"

Are we going to cut her up and sew her back up like the demons did?

It hurts so much.

Seeing the thirst for knowledge in Wen Zheng's eyes, Xiao Ze explained, "The demon race has a feather fan left behind by the Peacock King, which can help you break the seal in your dantian."

Hearing that the thing that broke the seal was a fan, Wen Zheng breathed a sigh of relief.

Anything that isn't scissors or needles and thread is fine.

Mu Qing remained silent for a long time, and after they finished speaking, she suddenly asked, "The feather fan is a secret treasure of the demon race. Would the demon race allow you to use it?"

These kinds of things are usually kept as decorations and are never allowed to be used easily.

“Of course, ordinary people can’t do it, but I’m different. I rely on my reputation to travel among the demons.” Xiao Ze pointed to his face.

Wen Zheng glanced at his unremarkable face and subconsciously assumed that Xiao Ze was referring to his good interpersonal relationships, so she immediately chimed in, "I believe you have the ability."

"Of course, don't you know who I am?" Xiao Ze said with a smile.

The two started exchanging compliments, one saying something to the other and the other praising the other.

Mu Qing sighed and looked away from the two of them.

The three chatted for a while longer before setting off for the demon realm at dawn.

The three of them had just passed through the barrier when Li Ruyue appeared with more than a dozen people. Looking at the barrier in front of them, Li Ruyue's expression remained unchanged: "Let's force our way through."

The people following behind answered in unison, "Yes."

Li Ruyue took out a long stick and cleaved a hole in the barrier, then led a group of people to force their way in.

When the guards of the demon realm saw someone intruding, they immediately took out their weapons to attack. Seven or eight weapons fell on the intruder, but she blocked them with her long staff.

"Let me through, and you'll still have a chance to live." With a forceful movement, Li Ruyue sent several people flying to the ground, some of whom were seriously injured and even coughed up blood.

Li Ruyue didn't even glance at them, and swaggered away with her entourage.

The guards who were less seriously injured helped the others up and took out communication jade talismans to send messages to the demon elders.

A powerful enemy from the demon race broke in, and they couldn't stop it, so they could only report it.

Li Ruyue looked at the map of the demon race and said to the people following her, "You two go together and split up to search for people."

"Remember, once you find him, kill him on the spot and bring his head back."

"Yes." After saying that, the group dispersed like birds startled in the forest.

Carrying a map, Li Ruyue headed towards the largest city of the demon race. The demon race's secret treasure, the Peacock Feather Fan, was currently in Mingguang City.

Xiao Ze took Wen Zheng and Mu Qing to the largest inn in Mingguang City. He generously used spirit stones to book a superior room for each of the three of them, a display of wealth that made Wen Zheng extremely envious.

After working for so long, my savings are only enough to stay in the guesthouse for a month. Poverty is truly a terrible thing.

Lying on the comfortable and soft bed in the inn, Wen Zheng slept soundly. When she woke up, she saw Mu Qing looking at the scenery by the window and asked, "Where is Xiao Ze?"

Mu Qing didn't even turn her head before replying, "I'm going to get you the secret treasure."

He was unhappy that Wen Zheng and Xiao Ze were getting so close. "Those who are not of our kind must have different intentions. Wen Zheng should be wary of them."

"He's really worked hard," Wen Zheng sighed, adding, "It seems we'll have to go back soon."

After obtaining the demon clan's secret treasure and breaking the seal, they headed back home.

The matter is simple and clear; it seems she wasn't so unlucky after all.

Wen Zheng was in a rare good mood and said to Mu Qing, "Want to go out for a walk?"

She happened to be buying some materials for making talismans, and if Mu Qing went with her, he could help her take a look so she wouldn't get scammed.

"Okay." Mu Qing agreed, slung her sword over her shoulder, and left the inn with Wen Zheng.

Inside the city lord's palace.

Xiao Ze had talked until his mouth was dry, but the city lord's attitude remained one of refusal. He was so angry that he picked up the tea on the table and drank it all in one gulp.

"You old bird, don't go too far. I've begged you like this, can't you lend me your peacock feather fan?"

His eyes lit up at the sight of the red hair at the city lord's temples, and he almost knelt down to beg for mercy.

"Don't even think about it. The peacock feather fan is a treasure of our clan. There's no reason for us to lend it to outsiders." The city lord dismissed the guest. "You should keep an eye on your younger relatives. People are complaining to me about it."

He couldn't be bothered to talk about Xiao Ze anymore. He was a thousand-year-old fox who spoiled the younger generation in his family so much that they were lawless and harassed the demon race everywhere. People came to him to complain every day.

Xiao Ze coughed twice and changed the subject, "That's not important. I didn't borrow your feather fan for nothing; I used it to save people."

He recounted Wen Zheng's situation, emphasizing the unique nature of the seal. He knew the city lord enjoyed studying sealing formations and was particularly interested in this ancient seal.

Sure enough, after he finished speaking, the city lord's attitude softened considerably, and he said in a gentler tone, "I'll bring her to see you tomorrow."

The city lord was very confident in his achievements in sealing formations, believing that he could break them without even taking out his feather fan, which would be a good opportunity for Xiao Ze to see his strength.

Xiao Ze saw through the old bird's plan, but didn't expose it. He agreed, "Okay, I'll bring people over tomorrow morning."

The two agreed on a time, and Xiao Ze rushed back to inform Wen Zheng. He was taken aback when he learned that the two had gone to the night market.

Are the two of them really that close?

He didn't dwell on it too much, and after having the waiter deliver a message, he went back to his room to rest.

Wen Zheng, who was strolling through the night market, was unaware of the good news. She tugged at Mu Qing's sleeve as they wandered around the market.

There are quite a few demons setting up stalls at night. Most of them retain some features of their original forms, such as body hair or sharp horns on their heads, and they come in various shapes and sizes.

Wen Zheng glanced at the items and lost interest. Her eyes swept over the things the people were selling; they were all ordinary, common materials, which didn't interest her much.

The two strolled around for a long time, but Wen Zheng didn't find anything she liked. Just as she was about to head home, Mu Qing grabbed her arm and said, "Look over there."

He turned his head to gesture for Wen Zheng to look over, where a charred piece of wood was displayed on a stall belonging to a demon race with bull horns.

"What is this?" Wen Zheng couldn't understand it, so she turned to ask Mu Qing.

The two were very close. When Wen Zheng turned her head, she bumped into Mu Qing's head. Fortunately, Mu Qing was relatively short, so the bump only hit her chin.

She rubbed her reddened chin and swayed behind her in front of Mu Qing. "What are you spacing out for?"

Let's talk.

Mu Qing suddenly got angry and slapped her hand away, turning her head to the side and saying, "That's lightning-struck wood, a good thing. It's very useful for making magic tools to help people overcome lightning tribulations."

This is a rare find. The lightning-struck wood that this demon clan brought out is of good quality. Buying it will help Wen Zheng with her tribulation later.

Even after learning that lightning-struck wood was useful for overcoming tribulations, Wen Zheng still wasn't very interested.

The last tribulation lightning wasn't dangerous for her; she passed it easily. The most important thing was that she didn't have enough spirit stones.

Wen Zheng grabbed the bag of spirit stones and turned to leave, but Mu Qing pulled her to the stall and asked the price: "How many spirit stones is the lightning-struck wood?"

The bull-horned demon didn't even look up, chewing on some grass, and mumbled, "Two thousand high-grade spirit stones."

This price far exceeded the number of spirit stones Wen Zheng had. She whispered to Mu Qing, "I only have less than a thousand."

She wouldn't spend all her spirit stones just to buy a piece of lightning-struck wood.

To put it bluntly, this thing is only useful for passing through lightning tribulations. Compared to being poor, Wen Zheng didn't find the lightning tribulation so difficult to endure.

Mu Qing pretended not to hear and took out spirit stones to pay the bill. Seeing that he paid so readily, the bull-horned demon took a tuft of fur from the stall and gave it to him, saying in a buzzing voice, "It's a gift, the wolf king's fur. If you carry it with you, evil spirits won't dare to approach."

Mu Qing glanced at Wen Zheng and gestured for her to accept the gift.

Wen Zheng froze, stiffly reaching out to take the Thunder Tribulation Wood and the Wolf King's Fur.

After shopping, the two prepared to go home.

Along the way, Wen Zheng would glance at Mu Qing from time to time, muttering to herself, though it was unclear what she was saying.

The two returned to the inn. Just as Mu Qing was about to go back to his room, Wen Zheng quickly stuck a talisman on his back. He frowned and looked at her, "What did you stick on?"

The talisman remained quietly affixed to her back, and since she didn't sense any spiritual energy fluctuations, Mu Qing didn't remove it.

"Why isn't there any reaction?" Wen Zheng murmured, reaching out to tear off the talisman. Just as she was about to put it away, Mu Qing took it, looked at it for a while, and asked, "Do you suspect I've been possessed?"

Put a talisman on him to ward off evil spirits and avoid taboos.

Feeling a little embarrassed after being called out, Wen Zheng, after all, had just paid for the lightning-struck wood for her. She coughed lightly and said, "It's just a suspicion."

Seeing that Mu Qing's expression was indifferent, showing no joy or anger, and his face still seemed sullen, Wen Zheng took out a talisman from her bosom and exchanged it for the exorcism talisman in his hand.

"I'll trade you this good dream talisman." Wen Zheng took back the talisman and walked to her room. "The talisman is quite effective. Go to sleep early." After saying that, she quickly went into her room and closed the door.

Mu Qing held the talisman, unsure of what to say. She stood there for a while before going back to her room to rest.
