Yang Kewei walked while looking at the beggars in the ruins.
Looking at Long Xiaoxiao's thin back, I couldn't help feeling a little emotional.
He is so young, yet he has to live in a beggar's den.
"Long Xiaoxiao, aren't you afraid?" Yang Kewei suddenly asked.
Long Xiaoxiao paused for a moment, then continued walking forward as if nothing had happened.
After a few steps, Long Xiaoxiao's low voice was heard.
"Big Brother, for people like us, no one would care even if we died. Being able to have a full meal every day is the greatest happiness."
After a moment of silence, Long Xiaoxiao continued, "Big Brother, I'm actually very scared, but I'm more afraid of not having food to eat."
“Because… it’s sad to be hungry.”
These words made Yang Kewei pause. Looking at Long Xiaoxiao's thin body, he didn't know what to say for a moment.
"Yeah, being hungry... is really sad." Yang Kewei said inwardly.
Long Xiaoxiao stopped talking, and Yang Kewei was also speechless, following behind him in silence.
Soon, the three of them came to a door with only half of the roof left.
Long Xiaoxiao took a deep breath silently, trying to make her voice sound more natural.
"Grandpa, I'm back!"
But there was no sound coming from inside the house.
"Strange, is grandpa out?"
Long Xiaoxiao pushed the door open and walked in. "Grandpa?"
"Grandpa!!!" Long Xiaoxiao's exclamation suddenly sounded in the house.
Yang Kewei walked in quickly and found that Long Xiaoxiao was holding an old man who was skinny, had white hair like dead grass, and was covered with holes.
Long Xiaoxiao was desperately shaking the old man, shouting, "Grandpa! Grandpa, what's wrong with you? Grandpa, wake up quickly, Grandpa!"
Yang Kewei found that the old man's condition was not right, and he seemed... a little stiff.
He quickly stepped forward and reached out to feel the old man's pulse.
But when he put his fingers on the old man's skin, Yang Kewei had the answer in his mind.
The skin was cold and stiff, and there was no pulse.
"Big brother, what happened to my grandpa? Please save my grandpa, big brother, please!"
Long Xiaoxiao cried and knelt down and kowtowed continuously.
Yang Kewei quickly stopped him and said helplessly, "Xiaoxiao, your grandfather has passed away."
These words were like a bolt from the blue, piercing deep into Long Xiaoxiao's heart.
He actually understood everything. From the moment he picked up his grandfather, Long Xiaoxiao understood it.
But it was hard for him to accept this fact, and tears kept falling down like they were free.
Looking at Long Xiaoxiao crying heart-wrenchingly, Yang Kewei sighed helplessly, stood up and walked aside.
But I saw a row of words on the wall at the gate.
These words were obviously left for Long Xiaoxiao, and he could see them whenever he went out.
Yang Kewei pondered for a moment and decided to let Long Xiaoxiao release her emotions before telling him.
After an unknown amount of time, the crying gradually subsided.
"Xiaoxiao, here are the words your grandfather left behind."
Looking at Long Xiaoxiao approaching, Yang Kewei said softly, "I'll wait for you outside the door."
Then he walked out the door without reading the content of the text.
Not long after, Long Xiaoxiao's crying was heard again from inside.
Yang Kewei and Mo Xiaoyue sat at the door, staring at the ruins in a daze.
Only when the crying gradually subsided did Long Xiaoxiao open the tattered door.
"Big Brother, can I... ask you for a favor?"
"It's to bury your grandfather."
"Yeah." Long Xiaoxiao hummed softly.
His eyes were already red and swollen from crying, and his voice was hoarse.
Yang Kewei opened his mouth, and the thousands of words of comfort in his heart finally turned into only four words,
"Xiaoxiao, my condolences."
According to his grandfather's last wishes, Long Xiaoxiao buried his grandfather in the yard.
"Xiaoxiao, what are your plans for the future?"
"Try to live."
Yang Kewei was stunned and speechless. He could feel that these four simple words seemed to have drained all his strength.
"Xiao Xiao, do you want to...come with me? Leave here."
"Leave here." Long Xiaoxiao repeated.
His eyes were full of confusion.
"Yes, leave here and see the outside world. Life is not just about living."
Long Xiaoxiao looked at Yang Kewei in confusion, "Can I... go to the outside world?"
"Of course, if you want to. After all.... Living anywhere, isn't living?"
"Big Brother, can you... let me think about it."
"Okay," Yang Kewei nodded and continued, "But you only have one night. I will leave here when the sun rises tomorrow."
Yang Kewei stood up, looked at the dilapidated house, and sighed helplessly.
"If you have figured it out, wait for me at the city gate."
After saying that, Yang Kewei did not stay any longer, but left holding Mo Xiaoyue's hand.
After packing his dry food in a hidden corner outside the city, Yang Kewei found an inn in the city to stay in.
.....
Early the next morning, when the first ray of red light appeared in the east, Yang Kewei took Mo Xiaoyue and walked towards the city gate.
"Whether to go or stay depends on this time."
At the city gate, Yang Kewei did not see Long Xiaoxiao.
Although he had expected it, Yang Kewei still couldn't stop feeling regretful.
Although staying was his choice.
Just then, Yang Kewei saw a young girl walking towards him.
He took a step forward to make way, but found that the girl also took a step forward and stood in front of him.
