Chapter 151 He risked his life to save her
Yuwen Che suddenly unleashed his inner strength, forcefully shaking Han Ying and the other man away: "Release me!"
Like a moth drawn to a flame, he rushed headlong into the fire, kicking the scorching hot palace door with a mighty kick!
"Bang!" The door shattered, and a wave of scorching heat mixed with thick smoke rushed out!
"Xue'er! Cheng'an! Ning'er!" Yuwen Che coughed violently, his vision blurred, as he raised his arm and covered his mouth and nose tightly with his sleeve. He waved away the falling sparks and rushed inside anxiously, shouting, "Xue'er! Where are you?! Answer me!"
Han Ying and the shadow guard were shaken so badly that their blood surged and they staggered, but they dared not hesitate and immediately followed, holding their breath to protect him on either side.
"Xue'er..." Yuwen Che's voice trembled with despair as he searched desperately through the crackling sea of fire.
Just then, in a corner of the inner hall, with her last shred of consciousness, Su Luoxue seemed to hear that familiar, bone-deep call. She collapsed onto the three children, shielding them with her body, uttering a breath so faint it was almost inaudible:
“A-Che…A-Che…I’m here…”
Yuwen Che keenly caught the faint sound, his heart pounding: "Xue'er!" He immediately rushed towards the source of the sound.
Just then, a massive burning beam overhead let out a mournful wail as it snapped and crashed down on the spot where Su Luoxue and the children were!
"Xue'er—!" Yuwen Che's pupils shrank suddenly. Without the slightest hesitation, he instinctively lunged forward, using his entire back to shield Su Luoxue and the three children beneath him!
"Bang—!" The burning beam slammed heavily onto his back with a muffled thud, and flames instantly flammed his robes!
"Ugh...!" Yuwen Che let out a suppressed roar of pain, his body trembling violently, but he still held on tightly, not pressing down on the person beneath him at all.
"My lord!" Han Ying and another shadow guard, their eyes wide with fury, rushed forward and together pushed the heavy beam away with all their might.
"My lord! How are you?!" Han Ying asked anxiously.
Ignoring the searing pain in his back, Yuwen Che immediately looked down to check on Su Luoxue beneath him. She was unconscious, but her chest was still rising and falling slightly. Relieved, he didn't even check on the children. Enduring the excruciating pain, he scooped Su Luoxue up in his arms, shielding her from the falling sparks and splinters with his own body, and staggered outside, roaring hoarsely, "Imperial Physician! Summon the Imperial Physician! Quickly—!"
Han Ying immediately picked up the unconscious Cheng An and Ting Xue, one in each arm. Another shadow guard also quickly picked up Yuwen Hao and followed closely behind.
Rushing out of the inferno, the shadow guard laid Yuwen Hao on the ground. Han Ying immediately checked the breaths of the Crown Prince and Princess in his arms and urgently reported, "My lord! The Crown Prince and Princess are still breathing!"
The shadow guard had barely set Yuwen Hao down, and before he could even check on him, he rushed back into the inferno and carried the unconscious Fuling out. He was just about to turn back and go back in to save Granny Zhang—
"Boom—!!!"
The side hall, which had been held to its limit, collapsed with a deafening roar right before their eyes! A scorching shockwave and sparks rushed towards them, completely engulfing the last vestiges of life.
The shadow guards were forced to retreat by the shockwave, and could only watch helplessly as the flames engulfed everything.
Chaos reigned at Guanju Palace. Palace servants desperately poured water to put out the fire, while Li Dehai shouted himself hoarse as he directed the operation. The scene was utterly chaotic.
Yuwen Che carried Su Luoxue to a safe place, carefully placed her on the ground, let her lean against him, and gently patted her cheek: "Xue'er, Xue'er! Wake up, look at me! I'm back, your A-Che is back..."
Su Luoxue showed no reaction, her face as pale as paper.
"Xue'er!" Yuwen Che's heart was pounding in his chest, and he called out again with trembling hands.
"Cough...cough cough..." Su Luoxue coughed violently for a while, and finally woke up slowly. She opened her eyes and her vision blurred as she focused on Yuwen Che's face, which was full of worry and soot.
“A-Che…” She weakly reached out and grasped his collar, tears welling up in her eyes instantly. She asked anxiously, “A-Che… the children… the children…”
"Quick, bring me some water!" Yuwen Che shouted to the side, then grabbed her hand tightly and reassured her repeatedly, "It's alright, Xue'er, it's alright! The children have all been rescued. Cheng'an, Ning'er, and Hao'er are all safe and sound, right here. Don't worry, don't be afraid..."
The palace servants quickly handed her a water pouch, and Yuwen Che carefully fed her a few sips.
Su Luoxue coughed and looked around anxiously until she saw Han Ying and Ying Wei in their arms not far away, as well as Yuwen Hao who had just been helped to sit up from the ground. Only then did she lean into Yuwen Che's arms as if she had collapsed, and tears silently streamed down her face.
"It's alright...it's alright..." Yuwen Che hugged her tightly, repeating it over and over, unsure whether he was comforting her or his own heart that had almost stopped beating.
He looked down at her face, blackened by smoke, and her disheveled hair, feeling her real body temperature. A huge wave of fear washed over him.
Su Luoxue clutched his clothes tightly, burying her face in the crook of his neck, her body trembling with lingering fear. Her sobs were filled with grievance and terror: "Where did you go...where did you go...you scared me to death...I thought...I thought I would never see you again...Yuwen Che...waaaaah..."
Yuwen Che's heart was breaking at her tears. He hugged her tightly, gently stroking her back with his large hand: "It's alright, it's my fault, I came back too late... It's alright, Xue'er, I'm here, I'll never leave you alone again..."
He suddenly remembered something, and hurriedly took out the white jade box from his bosom, opened it, and inside was a pill the size of a longan with a warm color.
"Here, Xue'er, eat this." He held the pill to her lips.
Su Luoxue sobbed, her eyes blurry with tears as she looked at the unfamiliar pill: "What is this?"
"The antidote." Yuwen Che looked at her, his gaze deep. "I went to Nanzhao to retrieve the antidote for you."
Su Luoxue's eyes widened suddenly as she stared at him in disbelief, her voice trembling: "What did you say?... You said you... went to Nanzhao these past two days? And... and retrieved the antidote?"
She grabbed his arm suddenly, "Then you...then you haven't stopped for a single moment? From the capital to Nanzhao, and back again...Yuwen Che, are you crazy?!"
"Are you out of your mind?" Su Luoxue asked him, crying, tears streaming down her face.
Yuwen Che gently wiped away the tears and cigarette ash from her face, and then brought the pill to her lips again: "Don't ask so many questions, just take the medicine and be a good girl."
Su Luoxue looked at his bloodshot yet still deep and focused eyes, and at the weariness that was hard to hide between his brows.
She could even smell the lingering dust and faint scent of blood from afar on him. Her heart trembled violently, and tears welled up again. She obediently opened her mouth, letting him feed her the pill he had risked his life to bring back.
She swallowed the pill, but felt an endless bitterness wash over her. She suddenly threw herself into his arms, her fists weakly pounding his chest, her sobs suppressed and painful: "How could you be so foolish... Yuwen Che... I'm not worth it... I'm not worth you doing this for me... I'm not worth it..."
You idiot!
You are the biggest idiot in the world.
If something were to happen to him because of this, even if she were cured of the poison, how could she survive on her own?
Yuwen Che let her vent, only holding her tighter and whispering in her ear, each word heavy as a thousand pounds: "It's worth it. As long as it's you, it's worth it."
