Chapter 12 The Crown Prince Leaves the Palace

Ru Chang broke out in a cold sweat and quickly said respectfully, "Your subject deserves to die ten thousand times!"

This is pointless. Zhu Xiong Ying sat casually in the main seat. "My companion, I was praising your household for its strict discipline, which is a model for all officials. Get up, and don't kneel anymore."

“Your Highness, my wife is the one who manages the household affairs.” Ru Chang stood up and breathed a slight sigh of relief. “It’s just that my wife gave birth to a child, and the household discipline has become somewhat lax recently.”

Zhu Xiong Ying's eyes lit up, and she said, "Oh? Why didn't you tell me about such a joyous occasion? My companion, why don't you ask your family to come out and meet us?"

Ru Chang's wife, Li, carrying their newborn son, Ru Jian, arrived at the main hall and paid their respects with great ceremony.

Taking Ru Jian from his hands, Zhu Xiong Ying, like a little adult, said, "The study companion is diligent in his duties, cautious in his words and deeds, intelligent and studious, and well-versed in poetry and books. He is a pillar of the court. Study companion, while being loyal to the court, you must not forget to cultivate pillars of the court."

Ru Chang was overjoyed and quickly bowed down, saying, "I am only doing my duty and dare not accept the praise of the Crown Prince."

Touching himself, Zhu Xiong Ying said, "This trip out of the palace was rather rushed. I'll give this jade pendant to your son. Your grandfather and father have often praised your companion as a virtuous gentleman. I hope your son will also grow up to be a gentleman."

A gentleman is like jade; wearing jade serves as a constant reminder that one's moral character and integrity should be like jade. Confucianism believes that a gentleman should be outwardly respectful and inwardly resilient; lenient towards others and strict with himself; his brilliance should be understated and not ostentatious.

Looking at the respectful Lady Li, Zhu Xiong Ying said, "Lady Li is skilled at managing the household. After I return to the palace, I will request an imperial decree for you."

Lady Li was extremely grateful and received praise from the Crown Prince. If she could also receive an imperial edict from the Empress and be granted a title, her life would be worthwhile.

Lady Li, being a woman of good manners, quickly left with her eldest son. The Crown Prince's arrival at the residence was certainly not just a casual visit; he must have important business to attend to.

Zhu Xiong Ying looked at Ru Chang and asked with a smile, "You studied at the Imperial Academy. Are you acquainted with Ouyang Lun?"

Not familiar with them, don't know them.

That's alright, we can just go with the Crown Prince to visit Ouyang Lun's residence.
