Chapter 207 Good Cop, Bad Cop

Everyone initially thought that this period was filled with good news, but it seems that this was just an illusion.

Zhu Xiong Ying didn't really think there was anything to be alarmed about; he was well aware of most things. This time, however, Old Zhu was genuinely ill; he had caught a cold. Somewhat anxious, Old Zhu wouldn't allow Little Zhu to go to the Qing Palace again, fearing he might pass on his illness to him.

However, the necessary procedures still need to be followed. Old Zhu is thinking about a legitimate abdication, so many things naturally need to be discussed properly, and there is indeed some room for maneuver in many matters.

The emperor's serious illness has made many people uneasy, wondering if some things are really true.

Everyone knew that Emperor Zhu was in good health. However, he was approaching seventy, which was certainly not young in this day and age. If he fell ill at this time, there might be some unspeakable consequences.

Some people secretly began making preparations at this time, which no longer seemed like superfluous thoughts. Ultimately, they felt that Emperor Zhu might not live past seventy, given his continuous illnesses and the seemingly dangerous situation.

At this point, it seems only natural to prepare some things in advance.

Zhu Xiong Ying and Old Zhu shared a tacit understanding on many things, but there were also some things they knew were truly inappropriate to discuss. At this stage, it was best for the grandfather and granddaughter to know; there was no need for others to know.

Hopefully, the transition will be smooth; it seems there's not much to worry about now. If Zhu Xiong Ying takes over, there really won't be much resistance. This is not only because Old Zhu has high prestige, but also because Zhu Xiong Ying wields considerable power.

In order to make sure that the descendants of the Zhu family understand the ins and outs, Zhu Xiong Ying needed to put some effort into these matters and establish some good rules from the very beginning.

Abdication is never an easy thing. Stepping down from the position of supreme ruler requires immense courage and determination.

Back at the East Palace, Zhu Xiong Ying held her chubby son and asked with amusement, "What happened?"

Little Zhu was very unhappy. His grandfather wouldn't play with him anymore, and his mother had gone to see her little sister. Actually, Little Zhu had also gone to see his newborn sister, a very ugly little monkey who wasn't fun at all.

Seeing his sullen, chubby son, Zhu Xiong Ying said, "Alright, Dad will put you to sleep!"

This made Zhu Wenying even more unhappy. He would rather find maids, eunuchs, or guards to play with than go to sleep now. For little Zhu, he definitely wouldn't go to sleep unless he was absolutely too sleepy to continue playing.

Watching his son run off in a flash, Zhu Xiong Ying shook his head with a smile. He felt it would be better for him to sleep, since he was exhausted.

After a good rest, about an hour had passed. After having a simple snack, Zhu Xiong Ying began to handle official business in Chunhe Hall. While reviewing the memorials, Zhu Xiong Ying suddenly couldn't help but slam his fist on the table in anger.

Many people indeed dared not oppose the relocation of the capital, but there were still some who were thinking of passively resisting, which is interesting.

For example, among the first batch of central government officials officially dispatched, there were suddenly several elderly or seriously ill ones. What did these people mean? Did they think that Zhu Xiong Ying, the Crown Prince, was kind and easy to bully?

Over the years, many people have come to know that Emperor Zhu was domineering, and they believe that while the Crown Prince was warlike, he wasn't as cruel as some might think. This leads them to believe that passive resistance would be acceptable.

If these are indeed some of these ideas, then they are quite interesting things. Zhu Xiong Ying feels that these things are indeed worth discussing and studying in detail.

It seems we can't always let Old Zhu be the bad guy!
