For the Ming Dynasty, undertaking several large-scale projects simultaneously was not a major problem.
However, Zhu Yunying also understood that he should not be overly ambitious, much less kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. It was true that the Ming Dynasty was currently powerful, but if he were to be overly ambitious and engage in militarism, this thriving and great empire might suddenly take a sharp turn for the worse.
Such a thing was absolutely unacceptable to Joo Yun-young. He knew that what he was doing was important, and he knew that many things had to be done well. But even more clearly, Joo Yun-young shouldn't do anything beyond his capabilities.
Zhu Ruyi was happily helping Zhu Yunying with his studies; she certainly wouldn't see the memorials or anything like that. Even though she was Zhu Yunying's most beloved princess, he was still quite careful about many things, and his favoritism had its limits.
However, Zhu Ruyi could still read some documents and materials sent by the Hanlin Academy and could help Zhu Yunying read them.
After having lunch at Lian Qiongqiong's place, Zhu Yunying calmly got up to leave.
In the Wenhua Hall, Old Zhu sat in a chair and earnestly said to Little Zhu, "Yin'er, look at this memorial. Although your father and I have disliked ornate memorials in recent years and have required all officials to submit concise memorials, there are still many times when these officials still want to make a fuss."
"It makes them look capable!" Little Zhu immediately said. "We know, it makes them look talented. There are a lot of people around us who always want to show off their abilities, just to make themselves seem better than others."
Hearing what Little Zhu said, Old Zhu nodded with satisfaction. His great-grandson was not without sense; Little Zhu knew some things and understood others.
However, Old Zhu still said, "Those in positions of power shouldn't be condemned outright, and they shouldn't make decisions based on their own preferences. If you ask me, some officials are quite capable, talented, and have some eccentricities. We should keep an eye on them, not let them have it too easy, but we shouldn't suppress them either."
Little Zhu thought for a moment and then said, "Just like our father, he is capable and intelligent. Even our great-grandfather gave him experience in his early years."
Old Zhu didn't seem to object to this view, as he had given Zhu Yunying plenty of opportunities to gain experience. However, Zhu Yunying's experience was very different from that of the other officials. When Zhu Yunying was gaining experience, he wasn't afraid of making mistakes, as Old Zhu always covered for him.
Old Zhu wasn't afraid of Zhu Yunying making mistakes; if he did, he would cover for him, dissecting and analyzing the situation carefully. However, if officials made mistakes, Old Zhu certainly wouldn't have the same patience.
Little Zhu flipped through the folded documents, examining them carefully. "Great-grandfather, this is another 'greeting' folded document. We've read so many folded documents, all of them greetings. Are these the same folded documents that Dad reads every day?"
Old Zhu sighed and said, "Many of the memorials are like this. Even if we don't like them, we can only look at them and still have to reply. Those who can submit memorials to us are all officials of some rank, many of them are high-ranking officials in the provinces. We can't just ignore them."
Little Zhu didn't seem too happy with this answer, but she had no choice but to accept it.
In reality, over the years, Xiao Zhu has known that he can be willful because of his status, but he shouldn't be too willful.
Even Old Zhu and Little Zhu sometimes have to "compromise" and accept it. Both Old Zhu and Little Zhu are aware of this. It's just that they are mature and used to it. But young Little Zhu sometimes gets impatient.
Fortunately, young Zhu was an obedient child. Though mischievous, he was also quite sensible. In Zhu Yunying's eyes, his eldest son was a very self-disciplined child, which was one of the things Zhu Yunying was extremely proud of.
Having self-control is certainly a good thing, especially for someone in the position of crown prince, who needs self-control even more, otherwise it is easy to make things go wrong.
Just as Old Zhu was reviewing memorials with Little Zhu, Wang Chengen whispered a report, "His Majesty the Retired Emperor, His Highness the Crown Prince, and the Duke of the Founding State are requesting an audience outside the palace."
Old Zhu closed his eyes to rest; he didn't intend to deal with this matter himself, but rather to see how Little Zhu would handle it.
Little Zhu glanced at Old Zhu and then said, "Let's announce it."
With a solemn expression, Chang Mao entered the Wenhua Hall and immediately knelt down. "Your subject Chang Mao pays respects to His Majesty the Retired Emperor. Long live His Majesty! Your subject pays respects to His Highness the Crown Prince. May His Highness live a long life."
Little Zhu said with a straight face, "Let the Founding Duke take his seat. Wang Chengen, please grant the Founding Duke a seat."
After Chang Mao expressed his gratitude, Xiao Xiao Zhu said, "Mother has been quite concerned about the Duke of Kaiguo lately. She heard that he is unwell and is very worried. Fortunately, the imperial physician is here, so the Duke of Kaiguo should go there as well. This way, Father and Mother can rest assured."
Chang Mao was stunned. He hadn't even sat down yet, and he'd already been dismissed. He had come to see him with his own questions, but before he could even speak, he was sent away. He really didn't know what to say.
At this point, Chang Mao seemed to have no other choice, especially with the Hongwu Emperor watching. All Chang Mao could do was express his gratitude, even though he still couldn't understand why he was unwell.
Watching Chang Mao leave, Old Zhu smiled slightly. "Yin'er, why did you only send Chang Mao to see your father and mother? I remember your third uncle also requested an audience, but you didn't grant it. After all, he is your mother's brother."
Little Zhu immediately said, "Great-grandfather, our third uncle is our third uncle, and the Founding Duke is our father's eldest uncle. If our father is really sick, the Founding Duke will probably be the most worried, while our uncle might even be secretly happy. We know what's going on, and we're not stupid. It would put our minds at ease if he went to see him. Besides, the Founding Duke is sensible and won't interfere with the overall situation."
