Chapter 44: Awakening and Hug
"How did Sang Ning fall in there? Weren't you guys out picking pig grass?"
Lin Xiuzhi questioned, and when Pan An ran over and whispered, Lin Xiuzhi was so scared that she didn't even have time to ask for leave from the team leader and left in a hurry.
Looking at Chu Sangning lying on the hospital bed with his head wrapped and his face pale and quiet, Lin Xiuzhi felt bad. He was fine when he went out, how come he is like this now?
"I didn't see it. If I hadn't followed them, Sang Ning wouldn't have..."
Jiang Xingyan stayed in the hospital out of responsibility, and his family members could not all be absent from work, so Pan Wenlan was left to take care of Chu Sangning.
After two days, Chu Sangning still didn't wake up. Jiang Xingyan consulted the doctors more than ten times, and everyone said that she was fine and would wake up soon, but she still didn't wake up. Jiang Xingyan didn't shave his beard and sat on the chair with red eyes.
When Pan Wenlan came in with a towel, she saw Jiang Xingyan's condition and sighed, "Don't worry, Sang Ning might wake up soon."
"Sister-in-law, let me do it." Jiang Xingyan took the towel, carefully held Chu Sangning's hand, and wiped it gently, avoiding her wounds.
Pan Wenlan quietly stepped out, leaving the space for the two of them.
Chu Sangning's head was dizzy and he pursed his lips subconsciously, his eyelashes trembling as if he wanted to open his eyes.
Jiang Xingyan, who was sitting beside the bed and quietly wiping Chu Sangning's hands, thought he was hallucinating.
He blinked subconsciously, and when he saw the person in front of him open his eyes in confusion, he heard the sound of a towel falling to the ground. The man stood up suddenly, reached out and held the person in his arms.
"It hurts--" Chu Sangning's weak and hoarse voice echoed in the small room.
Chu Sangning really felt the pain, as if all the bones in her body were broken and put back together. The moment Jiang Xingyan hugged her, Chu Sangning only felt pain in her head, legs, and waist. In short, her whole body ached.
When Jiang Xingyan heard Chu Sangning cry out in pain, he immediately loosened his hand and carefully let Chu Sangning continue to lie on the bed.
Seeing tears in her eyes, Jiang Xingyan's heart sank. He raised his hand and gently stroked Chu Sangning's hair, brushing away the messy hair on her forehead. He spoke softly, "Are you hungry? Do you want some water? Does it still hurt? I'll go find a doctor."
Chu Sangning pulled the corner of her mouth and shook her head, "No need." She took the initiative to hold Jiang Xingyan's hand and asked him to sit down.
Since Jiang Xingyan came back, he always dressed very appropriately, whether at home or going out, but the Jiang Xingyan in front of Chu Sangning.
His beard was covered with dark stubble, his hair was messy, and his eyes were red and bloodshot from not closing for a long time. It was the first time Chu Sangning saw him so unkempt.
She whispered, holding his hand, tilted her head and saw the empty bed next to her: "Jiang Xingyan, take a rest for a while."
Jiang Xingyan was worried and wanted to say something, but Chu Sangning pouted and whined, "You look so ugly now, go to sleep for a while."
Since Chu Sangning said so, Jiang Xingyan lay down on the bed next to him, and within a few seconds he could hear his even breathing.
There were only two of them in the ward. Chu Sangning turned his head to look outside through the window. The curtains were open and the sunlight was shining on Jiang Xingyan's face.
He did not sleep well. Chu Sangning could clearly see that he frowned, as if he was worried about something.
Looking at Jiang Xingyan's angular face, Chu Sangning's eyes were full of smiles. With his eyes closed, Jiang Xingyan looked less indifferent and more lazy.
His black hair was messy, he had handsome sword-like eyebrows, long and sharp black eyes, and thin lips. It was the first time that Chu Sangning really looked at Jiang Xingyan's appearance seriously.
Her eyes flickered, the corners of her mouth slightly raised, she gently got out of bed and walked to Jiang Xingyan, touched the back of his hand, and then gradually held his hand.
Chu Sangning could clearly remember the feeling of Jiang Xingyan hugging her, warm and safe. After staring at him for a while, Chu Sangning felt a headache, so she slowly moved back, closed her eyes and fell asleep again.
When Pan Wenlan pushed open the door and came in, Chu Sangning and Jiang Xingyan had both fallen asleep. Chu Sangning didn't like the smell of the hospital and wanted to go back.
Jiang Xingyan, who was always obedient, rejected Chu Sangning's request for the first time, and said seriously: "No, the wound on your head hasn't healed yet."
"I'm really fine. My injuries are almost healed." Chu Sangning wanted to reach out and touch the big bump on his head, but Jiang Xingyan stopped him, "Don't touch it casually. The doctor said you need to rest now."
"If you don't take good care of it, it will have a big impact on your body. It's said that it may cause a mild concussion..."
Chu Sangning's face was distorted. He covered his ears and lay back on the bed. He didn't dare to think about why a man could be so nagging.
"Okay, okay, I can stay here, don't say anything." Chu Sangning covered his head with the quilt, turned his back to Jiang Xingyan, and shouted resentfully: "Jiang Xingyan, you bad guy."
Pan Wenlan pulled Jiang Xingyan out and whispered, "Sang Ning is a delicate person. You are being too blunt. What if Sang Ning gets angry?"
Jiang Xingyan, "She is not that kind of person. Besides, for her health, it's okay to be angry."
Chu Sangning was recuperating in the county hospital, but he didn't know that the village had gone crazy with rumors, saying that he was injured, stupid, or had broken arms and legs. There were all kinds of rumors.
If Lin Xiuzhi had not still been in the village, there would have been even more absurd stories, including one saying that she was pregnant before marriage. After hearing this, Lin Xiuzhi ran straight to the person's house, pinched her waist and scolded him for the whole day.
The old lady felt guilty and hid in the house, not daring to go out, let alone scold Lin Xiuzhi. After all, she did not have Lin Xiuzhi's fighting ability, and she also knew that she was in the wrong.
Chu Sangning was burning money every day in the hospital. Finally, Pan Wenlan didn't dare to stay any longer. She whispered to Jiang Xingyan, "Is Sangning's head injury healed?"
"Almost." Although Jiang Xingyan was talking to Pan Wenlan, his eyes were always fixed on Chu Sangning who was pulling her hair in the ward.
Seeing her eyes wide open with an expression of disbelief, Jiang Xingyan's smile never dropped from beginning to end.
Pan Wenlan opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again. Although she was standing there, her mind was already flying away, so it was useless to say anything.
"Sister-in-law, I will pay for Sang Ning's hospitalization expenses, you don't have to worry." Jiang Xingyan knew what Pan Wenlan was worried about, and after saying that, he strode towards the ward.
Inside the room, Chu Sangning covered his head with his hands, feeling hopeless. He leaned against the headboard and cried out in grievance, "Ahhh, my hair."
"What's wrong?"
Chu Sangning's eyes welled up as if she had seen her savior. "Jiang Xingyan, look at my head. The back is bald!"
Because she had a big bump on her head, in order to facilitate examination, the doctor took the initiative to shave that patch of hair during the time when Chu Sangning was unconscious.
