Chapter 40 Su Yuyao Takes the Lead in Protecting Xuanfeng
Su Yuyao looked in the direction of the sound with suspicion, and saw a girl standing up behind Fei Hua. It was Hongzhu from Binglun Palace!
Yi's mother looked up and saw that it was indeed the same arrogant girl from before. She looked at Feihua, who was not surprised by the girl's recklessness and neither stopped nor scolded her.
Yi's mother lowered her eyelids, tilted her body to the side, and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, without responding.
Upon seeing this, Baiyan knew that Yi's mother was displeased, so she quickly nudged Feihua and whispered, "You should discipline her! How could she stand up and speak in the main hall without Yi's mother's permission!"
“Mother, I’m too lazy to deal with this Red Bead, and I can’t control it,” Fei Hua replied with her eyes downcast.
Yi's mother was not in a hurry. She slowly tidied her sideburns, smoothed her cuffs, and carefully arranged her nails, ignoring Hongzhu.
Hongzhu stood awkwardly in place. She had originally wanted to complain about Su Yuyao, but unexpectedly, the Empress Dowager Yi did not take the bait. She didn't know whether to sit down or stand up.
Su Yuyao knelt on the ground, pursing her lips and glaring at the helpless Hongzhu, secretly cursing, "Serves you right! Who told you to make false accusations! This isn't the Ice Wheel Palace!"
Su Yuyao rolled her eyes at Hongzhu and then secretly glanced at Yi's mother.
Unexpectedly, although her mother was fiddling with her nails, her sharp gaze fell on Su Yuyao, meeting Su Yuyao's large, darting eyes. Su Yuyao was so frightened that her hair stood on end.
Guiyue glanced at Yimu, who looked slightly displeased, and then at Feihua, who was neglecting her duties, and said, "In this hall, you are not allowed to speak without the Empress's permission. Although you are new here, you should learn some rules quickly, otherwise it is not worth being punished for your recklessness."
Yi's mother remained silent, but instead turned her gaze to Fei Hua.
Feihua, however, still acted as if it were none of her business.
Even Su Yuyao could see that her mother was giving Feihua a chance to discipline Nü'e. This Hongzhu was so reckless that she could be used as a warning to others and set an example for Feihua. However, Feihua did not appreciate it at all.
This Feihua has a beautiful face and a cold personality, but she's too soft-hearted. How will she manage so many girls in the future? If it were me, I would definitely give Hongzhu a good scolding!
Bai Yan could no longer sit still. She tugged at Fei Hua's arm, suppressing her anger, and said, "You are the mother of the palace! If you don't discipline her, are you waiting for the Empress to discipline her herself?"
Feihua then said coldly, "Hongzhu, sit down! What kind of place is this?! How dare you spout nonsense?!"
“This servant is not talking nonsense! This Su Yuyao was extremely disrespectful to Lord Xuanfeng in Binglun Palace. Not only did she call him by his name, but she also made him wipe the soles of her feet with his personal handkerchief! This servant was there at the time! I saw it with my own eyes!” Hongzhu did not assess the situation but instead faced the challenge head-on. Her few words broke the awkward silence in the hall.
Su Yuyao was also shocked by Hongzhu's words and broke out in a cold sweat. How could Hongzhu be so clueless? Was she trying to fight to the death?!
Feihua whirled around, staring at Hongzhu. "What did you say?! Using your personal handkerchief?!"
“Exactly!” Hongzhu said definitively.
Upon hearing this, Fei Hua's anger surged, her chest heaving. She turned around and glared at Su Yuyao, "Su Yuyao! You actually let Xuan Feng wipe the soles of your feet with his personal handkerchief?!"
Su Yuyao was also a little panicked. Should she cause another scene? What if her mother-in-law blamed her? She was afraid even Xuanfeng wouldn't be able to stop her! Should she just let them bully her like this? She couldn't swallow this insult!
Su Yuyao bit her lip and looked at Yi's mother, only to see that Yi's mother had a look of amusement on her face. Not only did she not warn her with her eyes, but she also raised her eyebrows and looked at her with a smirk, as if waiting for her to retaliate.
Su Yuyao gritted her teeth. So what if she dies? At worst, she'll just get another beating!
Su Yuyao straightened up, raised her head, and said, "Fairy Feihua! You heard it too, Hongzhu said that Lord Xuanfeng used a handkerchief close to his body! Since it's close to his body, it means that this handkerchief is very important to him!"
Su Yuyao glared at Feihua, "You're so angry, does this handkerchief have anything to do with you?"
“Of course! This is a token of our love that I gave to Xuanfeng!” Feihua said, slapping the table.
Su Yuyao sneered and said disdainfully, "Oh, so it's a token of our betrothal! Lord Xuanfeng keeps this handkerchief close to his body, which shows how much he cherishes our engagement. But you just dissolved it like that! Now that the engagement is dissolved, why would he care about this insignificant handkerchief? Besides, what Lord Xuanfeng uses to wipe my feet is his business if I get them dirty. If you want to know why, go ask Lord Xuanfeng!"
"Su Yuyao! You..." Feihua was so angry that she couldn't speak, and didn't know how to refute it. She just kept fuming.
Baiyan wanted to say a few words of scolding, but she didn't dare to speak because of her mother's expression.
Seeing that Feihua was speechless after Su Yuyao's words, Hongzhu picked up on Su Yuyao's words, "Su Yuyao, how can you be so rude?! How dare you talk back to Fairy Feihua!"
Upon seeing Hongzhu speak again, Su Yuyao was furious. She stood up, put her hands on her hips, and shouted at Hongzhu, "Hongzhu! Am I being unreasonable or are you being unreasonable! You spoke without permission just now. If Fairy Feihua hadn't wanted to ignore you, you wouldn't be standing here in peace!"
“Su Yuyao! I am the maid personally chosen by Lord Zeyuan…”
"So what?!" Su Yuyao interrupted Hongzhu, "Putting aside whether I am Lord Xuanfeng's person or not, just because I am the young lady of the Xuanhuang Valley Wolf Clan, you have to kowtow to me!"
"Su Yuyao, how dare you be so insolent?!"
"Hongzhu! You're just a Yu Chuanzi, what right do you have to call me presumptuous?! Besides, I'm now the last disciple of Immortal Master Qi Meng, and I have Lord Xuanfeng backing me up. I have the right to be presumptuous, so why can't I be presumptuous?!"
"Su Yuyao! You've gone to such lengths to stay by Lord Xuanfeng's side, what are your true intentions?!"
"What are your intentions?" Su Yuyao sneered, rolling her eyes and saying contemptuously, "None of your business!"
"You!" Hongzhu's lips trembled with anger. "Empress Yi, this Su Yuyao's origins are unknown. If she hadn't bewitched Lord Xuanfeng, how could Lord Xuanfeng have made friends with the Wuji Dao Sect..."
Su Yuyao was startled and quickly interrupted Hongzhu, "Lord Xuanfeng returned the Wuji Dao because Lord Zeyuan is already capable of assuming the responsibilities of a Daoist Heavenly Lord. What does it have to do with me? As Lord Zeyuan's maid, don't let your personal grudges with me cloud your judgment and distort the truth!"
Hongzhu suddenly realized that she had said the wrong thing. She was Zeyuan's maid, how could she speak up for Xuanfeng!
Although Su Yuyao disliked Hongzhu, she didn't want to see her die.
"Hahaha," Mother Yi clapped her hands and laughed, "Children arguing is indeed funny!"
"Your Majesty, Lord Xuanfeng has arrived."
Su Yuyao quickly turned around and looked at the palace gate. She saw Xuan Feng, looking travel-worn and with his robes fluttering, stride into the hall. He stood in the hall, lifted his robes, and knelt down, saying, "Your subject greets Your Majesty! May Your Majesty be well!"
"Get up!" Mother Yi raised her hand slightly.
Xuanfeng bowed his head and replied, "Thank you, Your Majesty!" After saying that, he stood up and looked at Su Yuyao. Seeing that Su Yuyao was safe and sound, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Fei Hua craned her neck to look at Xuan Feng, hoping he would glance at her, but to her surprise, Xuan Feng's gaze was fixed on Su Yu Yao.
"Xuanfeng, what brings you here?" Mother Yi asked softly.
"Your Majesty, I have come to take Su Yuyao back to the Immortal Mountain."
"How is the matter of the Immortal Mountain being handled?"
"It's all taken care of, that's why I came to pick her up."
Yi's mother glanced at Xuan Feng's cold attitude and said, "If you have any difficulties, you can come to me directly."
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Su Yuyao looked at the mother and son, who were being very formal, with a puzzled expression. Why didn't they call her "Mother" but "Your Majesty"? And why were they being so polite?
A jade maiden walked up to the main hall and said, "Your Majesty, the plaque for Youlong Palace has been completed, and Lord Chaoxi has ordered it to be hung up again."
"I understand, you may leave." Mother Yi looked up at Xuan Feng, but then turned her attention to Su Yuyao, "Su Yuyao, I have something I want to ask you."
Su Yuyao was staring blankly at Xuanfeng, savoring the pleasure she felt beneath him that day, and did not hear the question from Mother Yi, so she did not respond.
Xuan Feng frowned slightly, turned around to look at Su Yuyao, and was surprised to find that his girl was looking at him with a blush on her face.
You brat! What kind of place is this, letting your mind wander like this?
When Su Yuyao saw Xuan Feng looking at her, she met his gaze and couldn't help but smile.
"Su Yuyao!" Mother Yi raised her voice.
"Ah?" Su Yuyao was startled awake and quickly bowed her head and curtsied, replying, "Yes, Your Majesty."
"You... answer my question," Empress Yi said coldly.
"A problem?" Su Yuyao was puzzled. I didn't hear a problem.
Xuanfeng understood that Yi's mother was deliberately making things difficult for Su Yuyao, so he hurriedly stepped forward to defend her, "Your Majesty, if you don't ask, how will the girl know what to answer?"
The mother looked displeased and said coldly, "Oh? That's my fault."
"Your subject dares not!" Xuanfeng knelt down, lifting his robe.
"Dare not? I see you're capable of anything!" Mother Yi glared and slammed her hand on the table in anger.
Xuanfeng's eyes trembled slightly, and he understood that they were probably going to hold Youlong Palace accountable for what happened.
Seeing that Mother Yi was angry, Baiyan, Feihua, and the other women sitting to the side quickly stood up and bowed their heads.
Seeing this situation, Su Yuyao knew that something bad was about to happen and that Xuanfeng was likely to be in trouble!
She immediately knelt down beside Xuanfeng and said loudly, "Your Majesty! Please don't be angry! Lord Xuanfeng must not have been listening to Your Majesty properly just now, so he didn't hear Your Majesty's question, but... I heard it!"
"Oh? You heard that?" Mother Yi squinted at Su Yuyao. "Then tell us!"
Su Yuyao lowered her head and thought for a moment before replying, "Your Majesty, my father's name is Su Yuan. He is a fortune teller in Qianlong Town. One day, a mother brought her two sons to see you, asking you to tell her which son would be successful so she could carefully nurture that son. But you said that fate is predetermined, and how can it be interfered with by human intervention? A son destined for greatness will succeed regardless of whether his mother helps him or not, while a son destined to be ordinary will never amount to anything, no matter how much his mother helps him. Even if he has a moment of glory, it will only be fleeting. The mother was still confused, unsure how to allocate her maternal love to her two sons. My father then said..." Su Yuyao raised her head to look at her mother, who was listening attentively and watching Su Yuyao intently.
"What did you say?"
“My father said that although both hands are flesh, they are still different in thickness, so it is impossible to be fair. Therefore, we should follow our hearts and let nature take its course.”
"Did this mother ask what to do if her two sons have a conflict?"
Su Yuyao smiled and said, "Your Majesty, Hongzhu and I had a quarrel just now. Didn't you say that children's quarrels are funny? Just treat it as... children's quarrel..."
Yi's mother looked at Su Yuyao thoughtfully, "Su Yuyao, are you willing to accept this?"
Upon hearing this, Su Yuyao took a breath and said, "It's enough that I can follow Lord Xuanfeng. I have no regrets!"
Mother Yi carefully examined Su Yuyao. This young girl, so young, yet so experienced! Perhaps none of the women in this room could rival her…
The mother smiled and said, "I'm tired and I'm afraid I can't keep you company any longer. Please make yourselves at home."
After saying that, she stood up, took Guiyue's arm, and slowly walked out of the main hall.
Su Yuyao watched as Mother Yi walked out of the main hall and finally breathed a sigh of relief. But then she remembered Ze Yuan's slap and the seaweed whip in his hand, and began to tremble uncontrollably.
Xuanfeng quickly pulled Su Yuyao into his arms and gently comforted her, "Girl, don't be afraid, I'm here!"
Su Yuyao nestled against Xuanfeng's chest and gradually calmed down.
Xuanfeng smiled, then lifted Su Yuyao up with both arms and slowly walked out of the hall.
He looked down at Su Yuyao's round face and asked softly, "Are you scared?"
Su Yuyao hooked her arm around Xuanfeng's neck, nodded, blinked her round eyes, and said, "I'm afraid Mother Yi will punish you."
Xuanfeng looked at Su Yuyao's expression and laughed, "What are you afraid of if Mother Yi punishes me?"
"If something happens to you, how will you avenge me? That's why I have to protect you!" Su Yuyao said firmly.
The smile froze on Xuanfeng's face.
"Xuanfeng!" Feihua caught up and blocked Xuanfeng's path, angrily asking, "Xuanfeng! What exactly is your relationship with Su Yuyao?!"
Xuanfeng frowned as he looked at Feihua. Although he was furious about what Feihua had done before, she was, after all, the woman with whom he had a thousand-year marriage contract. Moreover, they had been intimate that day...
Su Yuyao pouted as she looked at Xuanfeng, who was staring blankly. "You stinky bastard! You're staring at me like that again!"
She hugged Xuanfeng's neck tightly and said to Feihua, "This is the kind of relationship you see! Besides, you've broken off your engagement! You're not allowed to come looking for Xuanfeng anymore!"
"Xuanfeng, I want to hear you say it yourself!" Feihua's eyes glistened with tears.
"Don't say it!" Su Yuyao frowned, shook Xuanfeng's neck, and shouted, "Don't talk to her!"
"Feihua..." Xuanfeng ignored Su Yuyao's rudeness, but Su Yuyao got angry because Xuanfeng called out Feihua's name.
She jumped down from Xuanfeng's arms and stormed off toward Shangxiu Palace.
"Girl!"
Su Yuyao quickened her pace.
"Yao'er, stop right there!"
Su Yuyao jogged along.
"Su Yuyao!"
Su Yuyao lifted her skirt and ran.
