Chapter 9 The Soft-Hearted God Beneath Frost-Treading Peak
Below Frost Peak lies a city called Yellow Garment City. Although the climate here is pleasant and spring-like all year round, all kinds of furs and cotton-padded coats are sold everywhere in the streets and alleys, because if you go any further up, you will enter the territory of Frost Peak, where the winter is cold all year round.
"Boss, make her a larger size fur coat and fur coat. This child is growing too fast!" Xuanfeng said, sitting in a chair in the clothing store and sipping his tea.
"I want the pink one!"
"Miss, you're joking. Where would you find pink fur?"
"Then... I want the white one!" Su Yuyao excitedly pulled out a white fur coat.
“Make it black,” Xuanfeng glanced at Su Yuyao and said, “If you’re not honest and fall into a snowdrift, a black fur coat will be able to find you.”
Seeing Xuanfeng's objection, Su Yuyao could only pout.
"How about we make Yao'er a white warm hat?" Qi Men asked with a smile. "Would that be alright?"
Su Yuyao glanced at Xuanfeng, while Xuanfeng looked at Qimen and said helplessly, "Immortal Master! Can you please stop contradicting me?! I can't control her anymore!"
"My lord, we're almost at the Ice Wheel Palace, so..." Qi Men said with a touch of sadness.
Xuanfeng glanced at Su Yuyao, who was being measured, and felt a pang of reluctance in his heart. "Boss, make sure everything is taken care of, inside and out. Make sure the outer fur coat is extra and not too small."
"Master Xuan... are we going to be staying for a long time?" Su Yuyao asked, both happy and puzzled. "Why are you making so much for me?"
"Ah...this..." Qimen said, struggling to find the right words, "It's cold up there, so make some extra clothes, just in case, it might snow..."
"I've never seen snow before! It's never snowed in my village!" Su Yuyao didn't notice anything unusual about Qimen and Xuanfeng; instead, she was even more curious about snow. "My lord! Snow must be so beautiful!"
"Ah...it looks good..." Xuanfeng sipped his tea one sip after another.
After leaving the clothing store, Xuanfeng and Qimen took Su Yuyao on a tour of the city.
No matter what Su Yuyao took a fancy to, Xuan Feng bought it without hesitation. In less than half a day, all sorts of items filled the entire carriage.
Su Yuyao climbed onto the carriage and looked at the full load of goods. She was overjoyed. Why was this bastard so kind to me today, buying me so many things? Since he spent so much money on me, he probably won't kick me out, otherwise, wouldn't all this money have been wasted?
Thinking of this, Su Yuyao chuckled and completely relaxed.
Xuanfeng frowned as he looked at Su Yuyao's innocent appearance, feeling a mix of emotions.
"Candied hawthorn..." Xuanfeng looked in the direction of the voice and saw an old man carrying a candied hawthorn stick walking past him.
"One more, please," Xuanfeng said, stopping the old man.
"Girl!"
"Yes, sir!" Su Yuyao turned to look at Xuanfeng.
"Here you go." Xuanfeng handed over the candied hawthorn.
Su Yuyao stared blankly at the candied hawthorn for a long time before finally taking it.
She walked to a tree, sat cross-legged, and began to eat candied hawthorns, tears streaming down her face. "Father, Mother, Green Ivy, don't worry about me. Although that bastard has a bad temper, I'm not hungry or cold with him. I just miss you all so much..."
Su Yuyao looked at the last candied hawthorn in her hand. "Green Ivy, I'll eat slowly this time and save one for you."
She turned around, dug a hole under the tree with her hand, and buried the remaining candied hawthorn in it.
Xuanfeng frowned as he looked at Su Yuyao, who was enduring immense pain with her small body, and his vision gradually blurred.
"My lord, should Yao'er still be sent to the Ice Wheel Palace?" Qi Men asked, tapping the corner of his eye with his sleeve.
"Send her away." Xuanfeng turned around and said, "Rather than getting caught up in the bloodshed with me, it's better to harden your heart now and let her live a normal life."
"My lord, didn't you hear her heartfelt words?" Qi Men glanced at Su Yuyao, who was still burying candied hawthorns, and said, "She's devoted to you. If she knew we were going to put her in the Ice Wheel Palace..."
"Sir! Uncle! Where are we staying tonight?" Su Yuyao had already wiped away her tears and ran over with a smile...
In the inn, Su Yuyao, having just finished bathing, sat on the bed with her hair down and her chubby feet hanging out to dry, fiddling with the little trinkets she had bought. "How do I use the face powder?" she wondered. "This rouge is so red!" she exclaimed. "And this is... a longevity lock?"
Su Yuyao picked up a silver necklace with two silver chains hanging from it. Below the chains was a lock-shaped silver plaque with the words "Long Life and a Hundred Years" written on it.
She put the choker around her neck, and the silver lock rested neatly on her chest. It looked so beautiful!
She looked up at Qimen, who was writing a summons in the room. "Uncle! This longevity lock is so pretty! When did you buy it for me?"
"Oh?" Qi Men looked up at the longevity lock on Su Yuyao's chest and said with a smile, "That was bought by Lord Xuanfeng. Do you like it?"
Su Yuyao nodded repeatedly and said, "I like it! I really like it!"
She jumped out of bed, sat down next to Qimen, and asked with a smile, "Uncle, why did Lord Xuanfeng suddenly change his mind and buy me so many nice things?"
"Ah... that..." Qi Men looked embarrassed and didn't know how to answer.
"Immortal Master," Xuanfeng said as he pushed open the door, bringing with him a chilling aura, "I'm back."
"My lord, has the message been relayed back?" Qi Men asked.
Xuanfeng nodded solemnly, sat down in the chair with a sigh, and said, "I have already sent word back to Wuji Dao and retired to the Immortal Mountain. I just don't know what kind of trouble it will cause."
Su Yuyao looked at Xuanfeng in confusion. She didn't know what the Wuji Dao was, but she could sense Xuanfeng's sadness, loss, and helplessness.
Xuanfeng slowly closed his eyes, his eyelashes trembling slightly, his eyes moist, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. Finally, he exhaled deeply and said, "Immortal Master Qimen... is what you're doing right or wrong?"
“My lord, we have no choice but to do this to save our lives. What does it matter if it’s right or wrong? Although you have handed over the Wuji Dao, you still have the Immortal Mountain and manage many branches!” Qi Men said.
"Yes! Yes! You still have to take care of me!" Su Yuyao nodded and said.
Xuanfeng opened his eyes, looked at Su Yuyao's face reddened by the wind and her clear eyes, and said with a smile, "Managing you is much more difficult than managing Wuji Dao!"
"Hehe, then you should take care of me first, and then go and manage the Wuji Dao!" Su Yuyao said with a smile.
Xuanfeng suddenly became interested. Su Yuan was a diviner, so could this girl also figure something out?
"Girl, you said you'd take care of yourself before you took care of Wuji Dao, but I've already handed Wuji Dao over, so how can I take care of it now?"
“Hmm…” Su Yuyao looked at Xuanfeng and cast a divination. Xuanfeng is the middle son, so she took the Kan hexagram. I am the young girl, so I took the Dui hexagram. The main hexagram is Water over Lake (Jie), the time is Xu (戌), the fifth line is moving, and the changing hexagram is Earth over Lake (Lin). The outer trigram supports the body, so although it will be taken back, the outer trigram is Kun (坤), which indicates immobility and waiting.
So she said earnestly, "Although you don't have the Dao of Limitless Righteousness now, I feel that one day you will get it back! It's just not immediately!"
Upon hearing this, Xuanfeng immediately sat up straight, and Qimen also put down his pen and looked at Su Yuyao intently.
"Girl, when...when can I take back the Wuji Dao?"
"Hmm... I don't know either." Su Yuyao shook her head and said, "You haven't even taken care of me yet, why are you in such a hurry to interfere in the Wuji Dao?"
Xuanfeng chuckled, ruffled Su Yuyao's hair, and said, "You brat, I almost believed you!"
After spending a few days in Huangshang City, waiting for all of Su Yuyao's clothes and accessories to be completed, the group finally drove the heavy carriage through Huangshang City and headed towards Lushuang Peak.
With a snow-covered slope in front of them, Xuanfeng stopped the carriage and carefully instructed Su Yuyao on how to put on her fur coat and inner coat.
Su Yuyao sat excitedly in the carriage, putting on her clothes as Xuanfeng instructed, and then covering her head with a white warm hat, revealing only a pair of big, round, dark eyes, a round, rosy face, and a small mouth that was always covered with crumbs of pastry.
She climbed out of the carriage and saw that Xuanfeng and Qimen had already changed their clothes and were waiting to the side. She quickly called out, "My lord! I'm all dressed! It's just that I can't put on my shoes and I can't bend over!"
Although Su Yuyao had lost some weight after being hungry for a few days, she gained it all back thanks to the care of Xuanfeng and Qimen. Now, wearing a fur coat, she looks even more round and adorable.
Xuanfeng stepped forward, looked at the chubby Su Yuyao, and said helplessly, "Why don't you put on your shoes first before putting on your fur coat!"
Su Yuyao pouted, stretched her feet out in front of Xuanfeng, and said, "Help me put them on, I don't want to take them off and on, it's too much trouble!" After saying that, she lay down on the carriage, swinging her legs, and said, "It's so tiring to wear so many clothes every day, let's not stay too long! I reckon this place can't keep any useful people, let's take a look and leave!"
Xuanfeng listened to Su Yuyao's words and helped her put on her leather boots with a heavy heart.
He didn't know why, but he had been so eager to send Su Yuyao away back then, but now he felt very reluctant to do so.
Should I keep her with me? What if I lead her into danger...?
"My lord, why don't we skip Binglun Palace and go directly to Lushuang Peak instead?" Qimen also tried to sway the morale of the troops.
"Let's go, let's get going." Xuanfeng did not reply.
Su Yuyao was very excited when she saw snow for the first time. She picked up the cold snow with her hands and watched the snowflakes melt into crystal water droplets in her palm.
"Huh? Wow!" Su Yuyao exclaimed, holding up her chubby, wet hands. "Xuanfeng! The snow has melted into water!"
"You brat! Don't be so disrespectful to me!" Xuanfeng said, frowning.
Su Yuyao grabbed a handful of snow and threw it at Xuanfeng, pouting as she said, "There are no outsiders here, why are you being so serious!"
After saying that, she ran into the snow that was almost up to her thighs, then suddenly stopped. What would it feel like to lie in such deep snow?
Xuanfeng glared at Su Yuyao and shouted, "You brat! Come out here! You dare?!"
Su Yuyao glanced back at Xuan Feng, who was glaring at her with his beard bristling, chuckled, and then suddenly plunged into the snowdrift, rolling around in it.
The chubby, round Su Yuyao was becoming increasingly unruly in the snowdrift. Xuanfeng finally lost his temper, threw the reins to Qimen, and shouted angrily, "You brat! Come out! Don't get your newly made clothes wet!"
Su Yuyao looked up and saw Xuanfeng chasing after her, so she quickly flapped her little arms and legs and ran forward.
"You come back here right now! You brat! Just you wait! I'll show you what I'm made of!"
Su Yuyao, stepping into the snow for the first time, excitedly felt the biting cold of the snow. She ran until she was sweating profusely, and the cold snowflakes seeped into her sleeves and socks, melting on her damp and warm skin.
Su Yuyao shivered. "It's so cold! This feeling is so much fun!"
"Ah!" Suddenly, her feet lost their footing, and with a whoosh, the thick white that rushed towards her instantly suffocated her.
Before she could even feel fear, she was pulled away by a force.
Before she could even stand up straight, she was kicked in the butt.
"You brat! Why are you running?! Are you out of your mind?!" Xuanfeng shouted angrily.
Su Yuyao covered her bottom with both hands and said aggrievedly, "I didn't know there was a pit in front of me! If I had known, I wouldn't have run here!"
"You!" Xuanfeng glared and raised his foot to kick her again, but looking at Su Yuyao, whose eyelashes were covered in frost and whose face was red from the cold, he couldn't bring himself to do it. He could only put his hands on his hips and say, "You brat! Get back here right now! Don't you dare run into the snowdrift again! Do you hear me!"
"Okay..." Su Yuyao followed Xuanfeng obediently like a chubby little mouse.
"Yao'er, were you beaten?" Qi Men asked with concern.
"Hmm! I got kicked in the butt, but it doesn't hurt at all! I'm wearing a lot of clothes!" Su Yuyao said with a grin.
"Huh? Hahahaha!" Qimen burst into laughter.
Xuanfeng couldn't laugh. If such a troublesome girl were sent to Lady Qingyue, would she be well taken care of?
Looking at Xuan Feng's expression, Su Yuyao rubbed her kicked butt. Was that bastard really angry? She couldn't be so reckless; it wasn't worth getting beaten up by him!
So she took the reins from Qimen and said, "I'll drive the horse! You two should rest for a while!"
"White rice cake! Do you see that pine tree over there?"
"Chirp chirp!" the white rice cake chirped twice.
"Let's have a race and see who gets there first!"
After saying that, Su Yuyao turned and ran, making Bai Migao chase after her, breathing heavily in anger.
“My lord, Yao’er has always been spoiled by her parents and is still so naughty and mischievous. If we really send her to the Ice Wheel Palace, how much punishment will she suffer? Can you bear to do that? Besides… isn’t she like this because of… us…”
“Immortal Master,” Xuanfeng’s heart began to waver, “Let’s send the girl to Ice Wheel Palace first. It’s too cold on Frost Peak, so we won’t take her with us. We’ll make a plan when we go down the mountain…”
Qi Men smiled at Xuan Feng, who had given up, and said nothing more.
