Am I dead?
At this moment, Lin Weiwei was bathed in sunlight. Barefoot, she walked on the lush green lawn, her pale yellow gauze dress rippling in the breeze. She bent down and picked a blue rose—it was so beautiful… Wait! This must be a dream. Why would she, someone allergic to pollen, pick a flower? *Achoo!* A sneeze woke her from her dream. Ma Fei and Xiao Se were standing before her. Even the Prophecy Rabbit could be wrong; she wasn't dead, and she was perfectly fine.
That sneeze made it so much easier to breathe. I got up, put on my slippers, went to the window, and stretched out my hand. The sunlight warmed my palm. It's so good to be alive!
"Weiwei, thank you for saving me. My life is yours."
Ma Feigeng looked at Xiao Se with red, choked eyes, and put his hand on Xiao Se's shoulder. He had already crossed the Naihe Bridge with one foot, but who knew that the bridge would collapse when he was crossing it, and he would wake up with the memories of his previous serious injury.
"Ma Fei, have you noticed anyone strange today? Or is anyone missing?"
This was what she really wanted to ask, because during the rescue, there were constant attempts to sabotage the effort, otherwise more people could have been saved. It was obvious that these bad guys were targeting all the teachers and students of Mangxing University.
Just then, the television broadcast a shocking news report.
Xiao Aotian's company building was besieged, with many citizens throwing eggs inside and reporters frantically banging on the doors, creating a chaotic scene. People were holding up signs demanding the resignation of irresponsible school board members. The heavy casualties at Mangxing University were something no one could have predicted, but what were these media outlets trying to do? They were fanning the flames and making someone a scapegoat. The police hadn't even found the culprit; how could they vent their anger on the student council board members?
"Damn it, they're bullying my dad? When I was there saving people, why didn't anyone report it? Now that something's happened, they're trying to shirk responsibility."
"Calm down, Xiao... Your outburst at the TV station was probably a conspiracy, and..."
Ma Fei paused here, as if he had thought of something. He didn't usually sit by the window, but Lin Weiwei hadn't come to class today, so he was handing out textbooks in her place. As he passed by the window, he saw a familiar voice in the office and teaching building across the street. The height and appearance were so similar to Kuai Zui's. This guy, wasn't he on leave? Why is he still at school? He immediately looked towards Li Tao's seat, but neither of them were there!
Without thinking, he walked towards the window. The explosion pierced his abdomen with glass. When the shards hit him, his first reaction was to cover his head and protect his face, which is why he didn't die.
He glanced at Lin Weiwei and Xiao Se. He was unsure whether to speak up or not. It would be very wrong to slander his friend's classmates in the preparatory class seven.
"I saw it, that figure giving acupuncture. Did anyone in the class ask for leave today?"
"What do you mean! Lin Weiwei, don't talk nonsense. There's no mole in Preparatory Class Seven."
"Xiao, Weiwei is right, those two are Kuaizui and Wanzi. They didn't come to class, it's a coincidence. But I saw them from outside the window!"
No wonder...
He booked the entire wedding venue; how could he possibly let any unrelated people in? Xiao Han walked in so openly with her invitation, dressed exactly like Lin Weiwei. These were no coincidences! I remember once, he was handing out flyers at the alley entrance. That area was full of traditional Chinese medicine doctors; his family had only one son per generation, and his mother always urged him to become a doctor, saying there was no need for university, so the allowance he received was minimal, and he could only earn money by selling information.
"I knew it. No matter where I go, Han Han will know. And the 'Maruko,' oh no, Li Tao's face mask, can't be bought in any online store at all; it was developed by Li Yao."
She wasn't stupid. Such a useful product—wouldn't it be a waste not to buy more and keep it at home? Skincare is important too. So, she stayed up late for those few days, searching many websites but unable to find the face mask Li Tao had recommended.
"Even if they betrayed me, there must be a reason. You two believe me!"
"I believe it, because he clearly had the opportunity to kill me today, but he didn't."
The fact that Kuai Zui went easy on her proves that he was forced into it, and since Wanzi was already very close to Han Han, Han Han must have caught her doing something wrong.
The three of them were in a bad mood; the betrayal of their partner left everyone with mixed feelings.
Ma Fei took out a cigarette pack from Xiao Se's pocket, and the two of them each lit one. Men don't readily express their inner turmoil; they bottle it all up inside, thinking a fight would suffice. Women are different. Lin Weiwei must be feeling incredibly hurt right now. After all, they'd spent so much time together, and there were bound to be feelings involved. And she didn't even know when the betrayal had begun. Yet, she still fearlessly rushed into the blast zone, the first to reach the classroom and rescue people.
Xiao Se scratched his head, a cigarette dangling from his lips. On one side were his brothers who had risked their lives for him, and on the other, his wife. His brothers had committed a crime, and today the investigation revealed that they were the two of them responsible. Even if they weren't executed, they would be deported. He still couldn't understand why these two men would betray him and harm their own compatriots.
"Don't tell any of the classmates about this; just the three of us know."
The two of them nodded. After this incident, they might never see Kuai Zui and Wanzi again. Where were they now? Were they being bullied? Lin Weiwei frowned and looked out the window.
...
"Well done, great job! You're quick to speak! I think your mother's suggestion is excellent."
"Stop talking nonsense. We won't kill Xiao Se and Lin Weiwei. You should give us the antidote as agreed."
Kuai Zui stared at Wanzi, who was lying on the ground convulsing and rolling around. Wanzi's lips were purple from the pain, and he kept biting on his chopsticks. His wide eyes were clutching at the corner of Wanzi's clothes.
They weren't poisoned, they were addicted. Maruko loved collecting lipsticks, and one day while shopping, they passed a stall selling secondhand luxury goods. One lipstick was only 100 yuan. Maruko absolutely refused to buy it, because while he could buy secondhand cars and houses, lipstick was something he ingested, and he worried about the potential health risks, like hepatitis A. However, his fiancée pleaded with him, and thinking it was only 100 yuan, he bought it anyway. Unexpectedly, she applied it to her lips as soon as they got home, and that very day, during their kiss, she became pregnant.
Han Han gave a cold laugh, pulled out a wad of cash from her pocket and threw it on the ground, then poured a packet of powder into her palm, picked up her chopsticks, and poured it into her mouth. "My former best friend, how could I possibly mistreat you?"
As his wife gradually calmed down, Kuai Zui wiped the sweat from his forehead. The drug addiction flared up three times a day, which was unbearable. His phone vibrated in his pocket for a long time without him reacting.
"No one answered, probably with Han Han." Lin Weiwei put her phone in her pocket, hoping her friend wouldn't do anything wrong again.
