Old Master Zheng glanced at her, then reached behind his back to pick up a city map and some writing materials. He spread the map out on the chessboard and circled several areas. “These secret passages were left over from when the city was built. Only the heads of the Zheng family throughout the generations know about them. I told Meng Luo about them, so he probably hasn’t tried to find alternative routes for transportation.”
"However, in the past two years, he has been helping Fu Xingbai with the city's construction. He might have done something underhanded. If he wants to guard against me, he must have dug a new secret passage. So the children you mentioned who went missing must have been sent away by him using the new secret passage."
Old Master Zheng stroked his white beard. "If Meng Luo wanted to have a backup plan, he certainly wouldn't let anyone follow the clues to his location. Now that he's run away, it'll be difficult to find his hideout."
He shook his head with a self-deprecating laugh, "I thought I had him under control all along, but it turns out... sigh."
Hua Ansu stroked his chin. "Old man, are you sure the traitor is the one outside?"
Complex and sorrowful emotions flashed across Old Master Zheng's eyes. No one else could have been fooled by him. Old Deng had been with him for so many years; he never expected him to do this...
Grandpa Zheng nodded and looked at Hua Ansu, "I know him. With his personality, you won't get anything out of him even if you interrogate him severely."
"Who said that?"
Hua Ansu dragged the steward, Deng, inside. Suppressing his surprise, the steward looked bewildered. "Master, what's going on? Why is this Miss Hua here?"
Old Master Zheng stood with his hands behind his back, ignoring him, and let Hua Ansu handle the situation.
Of course, Hua Ansu was also simple and brutal; she didn't even bother with interrogation and directly extracted memories.
Good lad, this Steward Deng has been in cahoots with Meng Luo from the very beginning. As for the reason for his betrayal, it's nothing more than self-interest. And sure enough, Meng Luo has dug two new secret passages.
Hua Ansu also learned that six years ago, it was Grandpa Zheng who told Meng Luo and Jiang Ziqi where Jiang Yu's grave was.
So it was indeed Meng Luo who took away Jiang Yu's remains.
Why would Fu Xingbai tell you about Jiang Yu's grave?
Grandpa Zheng replied, "I asked him and he naturally told me."
Hua Ansu clenched her fist. What a Fu Xingbai! His father-in-law could tell him, but his daughter had to resort to coercion and bribery to find out where her mother was buried.
"Then why is Meng Luo so fixated on Jiang Yu's tomb?"
Grandpa Zheng shook his head. "I don't know."
Hua Ansu couldn't help but complain, "You know absolutely nothing."
Grandpa Zheng retorted, "Just this one sentence, okay? I really didn't ask him what he wanted that woman's grave for back then, I wasn't interested at all."
Hua Ansu had already tied up Steward Deng and obtained the information she wanted. "Old man, I'm leaving. Take care of yourself."
"Wait a minute, I have a question for you."
Hua Ansu stopped and waited for him to ask a question.
"Why isn't it Zhi Su that came?"
"He has other things to do."
Grandpa Zheng said "Oh" and continued fiddling with the chessboard.
Hua Ansu glanced at the top of his head, then turned and quickly disappeared into the courtyard.
Long after she left, Grandpa Zheng, who had restored the chessboard, looked up and murmured to himself, "She's quite a capable and responsible girl."
He placed a piece on the board, saying, "The rumors aren't wrong, they really are a good match for that kid Zhi Su."
Hua Ansu checked both secret passage exits. The traces were very fresh, indicating that someone had been there recently. These people were very clever; they went in four different directions and acted separately.
