Gray Tower 1.5
"There...the resonance node...the weakness..."
Fan Jinci's voice was weak and feeble, as if each word had been uttered with exhaustion. Yu Yan looked in the direction he pointed—the slightly darker-colored rock wall seemed no different from its surroundings, but on the spectrum analyzer that Situ Jin was quickly adjusting, it displayed an unusually active energy focus!
"Wen Lin! Firepower coverage! Situ, prepare the pulse, await my command!" Yu Yan roared, pulling Fan Jinci even tighter into his arms, trying to shield him from the invisible erosion with his body. He could feel Fan Jinci's body temperature dropping, his body trembling uncontrollably—a terrifying sign that his nervous system was being forcibly interfered with, or even overwhelmed.
"Fuck the 'key'!" Yu Yan's eyes were bloodshot, his anger and heartache almost burning away his reason.
Wen Lin and his team unleashed their full firepower, bullets raining down like a metal storm on the automatic defense system's muzzle and the surrounding rock walls, temporarily suppressing the enemy's firepower.
"Now!" Yu Yan roared.
Situ Jin suddenly pressed the start button on the high magnetic pulse jammer.
"Buzz—!!!"
An invisible shockwave spread out from the jammer. Instantly, all electronic device screens went black, and the automatic defense system's gun barrels paused for a moment. Almost simultaneously, a muffled cracking sound came from inside the rock wall that Fan Jinci had pointed out, as if something had been destroyed from within.
The eerie buzzing sound coming from underground stopped abruptly, like a wild beast being choked.
The invisible pressure exerted on Fan Jinci vanished abruptly. He collapsed into Yu Yan's arms, panting heavily, his temples soaked with cold sweat, his face as pale as a sheet, but the frantically flashing data stream in his eyes finally calmed down.
"Brother Fan? Brother Fan!" Yu Yan patted his face anxiously, his voice trembling without him even realizing it.
"...They won't die." Fan Jinci's eyes were closed, his voice weak but still carrying his characteristic coldness. "The node is only temporary...they will soon..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but the meaning was clear: we must hurry.
The defense system appeared to fall into a brief period of disarray after the pulse, with its firepower becoming sparse and inaccurate.
"Charge in!" Yu Yan made a decisive move, hoisting Fan Jinci onto his back and securing her with tactical straps. "Wen Lin, clear the way! Situ, follow!"
The squad rushed towards the underground ventilation shaft like arrows. Wen Lin used explosive cords to blast open the disguised entrance, revealing the bottomless metal passage below.
The passageway was brightly lit, yet deserted, with only cold metal walls and a complex network of pipes extending into its depths. The air was thick with the pungent smell of chemicals and ozone.
They advanced rapidly along the passageway, discovering several "processing rooms" resembling church basements, filled with books, documents, tapes, and even rubbings of ancient stone carvings awaiting "processing." The Grey Tower's "memory erasure" plan was far larger than imagined.
At the end of the passage was a heavy alloy door with no keyhole, only a palm-shaped indentation surrounded by nerve pulse waveforms similar to those in the church's basement.
“A biometric lock,” Situ Jin concluded after inspection. “It requires the biometric information of a specific person.”
All eyes once again fell on Fan Jinci on Yu Yan's back.
“The key…” Wen Lin murmured.
Fan Jinci struggled to get off Yu Yan's back and staggered to the gate. He looked at the dented hand and a faint hint of mockery flashed in his eyes. Ryan was indeed here, having prepared a "private" access control for him.
He raised his long, slender, pale hand and, without any hesitation, slowly pressed it down.
"Verification successful. Welcome, M-0."
A cold, electronic sound rang out, and the alloy doors slid silently open to both sides.
The scene behind the door made even the most worldly-wise people gasp in shock—
This is a vast underground space. At its center stands a bizarre device, resembling a gigantic brain, composed of countless pipes, crystals, and biological tissue. Surrounding this device are dozens of cylindrical glass chambers, each filled with a pale blue liquid… containing living people in a deep sleep, their solar plexus pressed against electrodes!
Above the "brain" device, a holographic projection floats rapidly, displaying countless "harvested" memory fragments—photos, texts, sounds, and even blurry images. These "memories," stolen from the elderly woman, the female writer, and other unknown victims, are being analyzed, organized, and even…reconstructed here!
A slender man in a white lab coat stood in front of the control panel, watching everything unfold. He slowly turned around, revealing a face that bore a five or six-point resemblance to Ryan, but was much younger.
He smiled at Fan Jinci, his eyes filled with fervor:
"We've finally waited for you, M-0. Father's 'Hall of Eternal Memory' needs you, the last and most crucial 'key,' to activate it."
"We...will eventually be perfect."
