Hospitalization 1.1
"Body temperature 39.2℃, white blood cell count slightly elevated, it is recommended to observe for another three days."
No sooner had the doctor finished speaking than Yu Yan slammed the medical record shut, locked the ward door behind him, and kept everyone outside.
"Did you hear that?" he sneered at the crowd through the glass. "My wife needs to rest."
Li Weimian stood in the corridor with her arms crossed, the silver earring on her right ear flashing coldly: "Captain Yu, I suggest you go to the hospital with me."
Situ Jin silently held up the CT scan: "Teacher Fan has a mild lung infection and needs..."
"I'm needed." Yu Yan drew the curtains. "Get out of here."
Inside the ward, Fan Jinci expressionlessly pulled out the IV needle.
Idiot.
A bunch of idiots.
A wailing sound came from the next ward: "38.5℃! I'm going to die! Sister Mian, wipe me with alcohol!"
Li Weimian entered carrying fever-reducing medicine and immediately pulled back Wen Lin's blanket: "Have you seen the sewage sample report from J School? The strain of bacteria you're infected with is the same as the one in the 'ghost student's' culture medium—"
"Ahhh, don't say it!" Wen Lin rolled into the corner, wrapped in the blanket. "I'm still a child!"
At three o'clock in the morning, Fan Jinci's hospital room door was gently pushed open.
Jiang Zhaoyan stood by the bed with one hand in his pocket and the other holding a cooler with the Swiss flag: "Lobster tails slow-cooked at low temperature, served with white truffle sauce."
Fan Jinci opened his eyes: "Poisoned?"
"Hmm, highly poisonous." Jiang Zhaoyan opened the box, and a fragrant aroma instantly filled the air. "Eating it will make you feel better."
A hand suddenly reached out from the shadows and grabbed his wrist. Yu Yan's voice was sleepy: "You fucking..."
"Shh." Jiang Zhaoyan suddenly lowered his voice, "Three 'M-series' culture chambers were delivered to the hospital basement tonight."
Fan Jinci's pupils suddenly contracted.
At the nurses' station, Li Weimian flipped through the duty log: "Elevator No. 3 was out of service for two hours last night?"
The nurse nodded: "They said it was a malfunction in the cold chain equipment..."
“Interesting.” Li Weimian tapped a line of text on a record. “The cold chain temperature is set at -196℃, which is exactly the boiling point of liquid nitrogen.” She suddenly looked up. “Where is Wen Lin’s ward?”
From the end of the corridor came Wen Lin's scream: "Why did you take three vials of blood from me?! Help, Teacher Situ!"
Situ Jin's voice was completely flat: "Just a routine check... and a chance to verify the host compatibility of the 'M virus'."
At 2:17 a.m., the ward door slid open silently.
Jiang Zhaoyan carried the gilded insulated box in one hand, the frost on its surface gleaming a bluish hue in the moonlight. He walked straight to the bedside and flicked open three locks with a flick of his finger.
He took out a crystal test tube containing translucent, shimmering blue shrimp meat. "This is a deep-sea mutant species that was flash-frozen with liquid nitrogen. Its neurotransmitter content is 37 times that of ordinary lobsters."
Fan Jinci, lying on the hospital bed, opened his eyes: "A product of Ryan Labs?"
"Jiang's private breeding farm." Jiang Zhaoyan inserted the test tube into the medical equipment at the head of the bed, and the liquid was automatically injected into the infusion tube. "It's more efficient than your current nutrient solution."
Suddenly, the monitor screen flickered with static, and Situ Jin's face appeared in the corridor monitor—he was being stopped by three people in white coats to register.
"While your mad dog captain is tied up with the dean," Jiang Zhaoyan suddenly leaned down, his platinum cufflinks brushing against the brand on Fan Jinci's collarbone, "Want to take a look at the new toys on the second basement level?"
Jiang Zhaoyan's iris scan unlocked the elevator access. "When we acquired this hospital last year, we found a 'little gift' left by Ryan." He pushed open the heavy radiation-proof door, and three culture chambers stood prominently in the cold mist.
Inside the middle cabin floated a body identical to Fan Jinci's.
“M-β, cloned using the hair you left at J University back then.” Jiang Zhaoyan tapped on the glass. “Unfortunately, the consciousness transplant always failed…”
He suddenly grabbed Fan Jinci's hand and pressed it onto the recognition device.
The cabin suddenly lit up with a red light, and an electronic voice sounded:
"DNA verification passed. Main consciousness awakening program initiated."
