15/Weightlessness
Chen Mian did not reply.
She had just taken out her study materials from her bag to look at them when she heard a noise outside the door.
The sound of the key turning the door open came along with Chen Song cursing vulgarities, and Song Ai whispered a few words of advice to him.
Chen Mian immediately went to the bedroom door and locked it.
With a soft thud, it reached Chen Song's ear.
He was already in a bad mood when his mahjong partner invited him to their wedding. He wasn't planning to go, but Song Ai saw the invitation and offered him a wedding gift, saying that he should go and save face, otherwise he would be looked down upon by everyone at the table if he didn't go.
At this point, Chen and Song thought Song Ai was quite sensible.
However, things didn't go so well at the wedding. The mahjong partners had never met Song Ai before and only knew that he was getting married for the second time, so they automatically assumed that his poor, alcoholic wife was not presentable.
Unexpectedly, Song Ai was quite pretty, and he couldn't help but glance at her, completely disregarding the presence of Chen Song.
Chen Song said that no matter how much he cared about Song Ai, he shouldn't have just felt that his self-esteem had been insulted. He was so angry that he slammed the table and dragged Song Ai away, cursing all the way. He cursed his mahjong partner as a bastard, and Song Ai as a vixen. In the end, he dragged the person he was going to marry into it, cursing that the other person would not be able to have children and would be cuckolded.
Now that he's home, hearing Chen Mian lock the door makes him even angrier.
Chen Mian, like everyone else, looked down on him, so when she heard he was coming back, she immediately locked the door and wouldn't even call him "Dad."
He was furious and walked straight to Chen Mian's door, banging on it like thunder. "You little bastard! You didn't even greet your dad when he came home? You cooped up in your room all day, do you really think studying can change your fate? You're just like your shameless mother, the only way you can change your fate is by relying on men, understand?!"
Those were harsh words, and Song Ai frowned, tugging at his arm. "Didn't we bring back some food? I'll go heat it up. Why bother with her?"
Chen Song spat, "Is this all the peanuts people eat? There's not even a bite of meat, Chen Mian—"
He banged on the door, "Open the door for me, where's the money? Didn't you go out and sell yourself? I've already spent the ten thousand your father gave me last time, so get some more money back."
Chen Mian's expression remained calm, her hand holding the pen never stopping.
Outside the door, Song Ai gently persuaded him. Since she and Chen Mian formed an alliance, she seemed to have found her backbone again. She changed her usual lazy and casual attitude towards life and was gentle and responsive to Chen Song's requests. Behind each gentle knife was her intention to appease Chen Song and make him not to cause trouble for Chen Mian for the time being.
"Didn't I give you money today? Okay, if you're still not full, let's go out and find a restaurant to eat something else?"
Chen Song sneered, "Don't try to act tough with me. The way Zhang Qiang looks at you, hasn't he been with you a lot? How many men have you slept with, you shameless, filthy bitch—"
But how can you reason with someone who has no moral bottom line?
For them, gentleness is compromise, a signal that they can be manipulated and bullied at will.
The sound of Chen Song making a move could be heard through the crack in the door.
The room was lit up with light, and the phone on the table lit up again.
Shen Yu asked her: Strawberry cake or chocolate cake?
*
You Huai found it somewhat amusing to see Shen Yu still looking at his phone. "Is this some kind of national affair, Brother Shen?"
It was clearly a sarcastic remark. He had felt that Chen Yu was acting strangely all day. Normally, he would never openly cause trouble for someone, taking them to some Western restaurant under the pretense of celebrating their birthday, and throwing the menu at them to let them choose whatever they wanted. But Chen Ke stared at the menu without saying a word, instead glaring at him with red eyes and saying, "Is it fun to insult people?"
Shen Yu laughed immediately, unusually blunt, "It would be even better if we called the teacher over."
Everyone at the table understood the implied meaning.
This was the first time You Huai had seen Shen Yu so childishly arguing about such things. To be honest, confiscating a cell phone wasn't a big deal, and telling the teacher was even more childish. Shen Yu was a senior in high school; he might grumble a bit, but it really wasn't worth arguing with people like a primary school student.
There are plenty of other ways to have fun, Chen Ke is really not one of them.
But Shen Yu spoke very clearly, almost to the point of directly stating Chen Mian's name.
Someone at the table asked curiously in a low voice, "When did Shen Yu get together with Chen Mian? Wasn't she the one from the art class?"
It's not that he's gotten involved; it's that he wants to get involved, but hasn't gotten involved yet.
He pulled out a chair and sat down next to Shen Yu, nudging his leg with his knee. He couldn't help but laugh. "I really didn't expect you to be so innocent. Standing up for someone behind their back and waiting for their reply. Brother Shen, you were having a wild time in the car with some girls outside the KTV, weren't you? You've gone too far with your lust and switched to the pure love route, haven't you?"
Zhen, you, Mom.
You Huai is the type to bring up things that are hard to talk about, completely disregarding Shen Yu's feelings; he just feels good seeing Shen Yu unhappy.
Just as I was about to say a few more words, I saw Shen Yu pick up the school uniform jacket that was lying next to him, stand up, and walk out.
The people sitting around immediately stood up as well, muttering, "They're changing scenes already?" But You Huai stopped them. He glanced at the door that had slammed shut, chewing gum and laughing uncontrollably.
"What a load of crap, the top student went back to do his homework."

The streetlights downstairs from Chen Mian's house are broken.
It was pitch black all around.
The night was as dark as ink, and not a single star could be found.
When Chen Mian received another text message from Chen Yu, the noise outside the door had stopped.
The text message was brief: Go downstairs.
Chen Mian stared at it for a while, then, as if she had been programmed, she picked up her phone, opened the door, and walked out.
In the living room, Chen Song sat on the sofa, shirtless, legs spread apart, pants half down, with Song Ai sitting on the floor between his legs, buried between his thighs, giving him oral sex.
She sucked until her cheeks were sunken, moving up and down Chen Song's penis, making smacking sounds.
Chen Song leaned back lazily, squinting his eyes in comfort. He didn't seem uncomfortable at all when he saw Chen Mian come out. He even smiled and asked, "Oh, my daughter has decided to come out."
Song Ai's movements paused, and she was immediately grabbed by the hair and pressed down.
"I haven't even ejaculated yet, what are you stopping for?!"
After finishing his rant, he looked down at Chen Mian, who hadn't even glanced in his direction.
Chen Song realized that Chen Mian had grown up without him noticing, becoming a graceful and beautiful young woman, just like a movie star. He had never paid attention to her before and had even forgotten how beautiful his daughter was.
He chuckled, his hand still gripping Song Ai's head as he forced her into a deep throat, making no attempt to conceal his daughter's sexual activity. This created an eerie atmosphere, tinged with a sense of impending doom.
"Mianmian, come here to Daddy."
He spoke gently to Chen Mian.
For a fleeting moment, Chen Mian had the thought of dying together with Chen Song.
I can't understand why, even though we're all human, some people's problem is that the boy they like doesn't like them back.
But for some, the real problem is how to survive at home, avoid being beaten, and gain even a tiny bit of breathing space so that the nights don't feel so long.
Chen Mian breathed heavily, turned her head, and stared intently at the kitchen.
There are kitchen knives there.
She had watched some videos; killing someone was easy. All you had to do was grip the knife handle tightly and slash at them, anywhere, until they stopped breathing. That was it.
She involuntarily took a step in that direction, only to hear Song Ai scream in a hoarse voice, "Run! Chen Mian! Run—"
Chen Song cursed and slapped Song Ai across the face, pulling her away to go to Chen Mian's place.
Chen Mian seemed to wake up with a start, opened the door and ran outside.
The staircase was long, and the steps seemed so high at this moment. Step by step, he descended to the end of the boundless night. The boy stood there, looking down at his phone. The sliver of light from the screen illuminated his handsome face.
He heard running sounds not far away, and the moment he looked up, someone rushed into his arms.
Shen Yu was still carrying a strawberry cake in his hand, and the bag trembled violently from the hug.
He couldn't help but laugh, "What do you mean by throwing yourself into someone's arms, Chen Mian?"
However, the person in his arms was trembling, clinging to him tightly with both hands.
It seems the drowning person has finally found their lifeline.
With a hoarse voice, she said to him, "Shen Yu... please help me..."
