49/Confession
No one paid attention to the phone ringing, and no one even saw who was calling.
They kissed, and Chen Mian, who was sitting on the sink, was held in Shen Yu's arms. Normally, when there was a height difference, one person would stand on tiptoe while the other bent down for a kiss, but this position was just at the most comfortable height.
The passionate kiss was the prelude to sex. Shen Yu's hand unhooked her bra from behind, freeing her full breasts, which he then held in his hands. He tightened his fingers, and her nipples pressed against his palm.
"pain……"
To Shen Yu, Chen Mian's moans sounded like another aphrodisiac. His desire was so strong it hurt, and he clamored to break into his own door, but the person in front of him was still wearing his pants.
At times like this, all reason is clearly swept away by the waves, yet he still instinctively kisses her wet eyelashes, somewhat clumsily coaxing her, "It won't hurt in a little while."
His hand was still holding her breast, his fingers squeezing tightly, as if he were grasping a balloon flying into the sky. However, the touch was soft, and what was expanding inside was not air, but Chen Mian's heart pounding beneath her cold exterior.
How could it not hurt?
The two sizes were completely mismatched, and each time it required a significant expansion to allow the food to be swallowed little by little.
Chen Mian bit his shoulder in frustration, but when she heard Shen Yu laughing in her ear, he didn't care about her insignificant strength. He lifted her up with one hand supporting her buttocks, and with the other hand, he pulled down her pants, his movements so fast that they came from his past experience in bed.
School uniforms, pajamas—he took off all of Chen Mian's clothes exactly how she wore them.
The white short-sleeved shirt on the ground was the same style and color as the one he had taken off, but none of the blind men outside could tell that they were a couple's item.
It's wet.
He was summarizing the tactile sensations of his fingers.
Chen Mian's eyes were wet, and all she could do was bite his shoulder, silencing her moans on his skin.
All she could hear was Shen Yu laughing. Water droplets from her hair fell onto her back, a ticklish sensation creeping down to her tailbone, the pleasure like a magic wand burning in her hand.
She groaned and called his name.
—The Sinking Domain.
Then someone kindly hugged him.
The erect desire pressed against the door, serving as a substitute for withdrawing the fingers; the lingering stickiness was another kind of lingering attachment.
As they were about to enter, Shen Yu asked her, "Do you like me?"
She tasted blood in her mouth and bit Shen Yu's shoulder, but he remained silent, his desire pressing down on her, yet he asked her about a sensitive topic that they couldn't discuss between them.
Chen Mian didn't loosen her teeth; instead, she bit down even harder.
"hiss--"
Shen Yu finally gasped, looking down at the girl who had her head buried in his shoulder.
She didn't say a word, she just bit him, and it didn't seem to bother her at all that he bled and her skin was broken. She didn't seem to care at all.
It was at this moment that Chenyu broke in.
The moment they broke in, all the pain was returned to them.
Chen Mian's lips were stained with Shen Yu's blood. Her legs trembled from the violent impact, her body arched backward, and her hair clung to the mirror, as if trying to pull out another version of herself from the mirror. Her voice was broken by the impact, but she answered him, "You... guess."
It was in the corridor near the art class.
She asked Shen Yu if he was with Chen Yin.
His reply has been imitated to this very moment.
Like karma in this lifetime.
Shen Yu smiled, pressed his lips to hers, and answered on her behalf.
"I guessed it, you like it."
*
After spending four days at the beach, they returned. During those four days, Chen Mian and Shen Yu made love in the room at night. The balcony door was open until they heard Chen Yin and You Huai's voices and realized that the villa was not soundproof. After closing the door, Chen Mian refused to let him get close, placing a pillow between them and saying that he was not allowed to cross the boundary.
Shen Yu didn't stop her from behaving like a primary school student, but when she woke up the next day, she was still in his arms as usual.
Along with the sunlight, one can feel the morning vigor of the submerged realm.
Chen Mian silently tried to get off the bed, but the person next to her didn't even open their eyes. As if they had supernatural vision, they immediately wrapped their arms around her waist and pressed her down.
"Would you like to exercise in the morning?" he invited her.
Chen Mian refused, "No."
"Oh." The person behind her said in a muffled voice, then breathed heavily on the back of her neck and kissed her earlobe.
"Then don't move, I'll exercise a bit."
Chen Mian: "..."
The trash can was full of condoms.
On the day he left, Shen Yu threw all the trash into a nearby recycling station. At that time, Chen Mian was standing next to him and pointed to the non-recyclable trash, saying to Shen Yu, "Throw it over there."
Shen Yu grabbed her waist and berated her for being heartless.
I went back on Sunday.
The road was completely jammed. Chen Mian and Shen Yu were both looking at their phones, neither of them speaking. The driver thought they had argued, but when he glanced at them in the rearview mirror, he found that their shoulders were touching, and they were simply doing their own thing.
After arriving home, Chen Mian packed her things, putting all her senior year supplies into a box. Chen Yu leaned against the door watching Chen Mian pack, seeing her painstakingly sealing the box with tape and placing it in the corner of the room.
Why put it away?
"Because senior year of high school is over," Chen Mian replied.
If everything was foreshadowed, then Chen Mian's words were the beginning of it all. However, at that time, Shen Yu was completely unaware. He was still caught up in the seemingly passionate relationship between the two by the sea, making plans for the future of attending classes together, leaving classes together, and getting married after graduation.
*
On June 25th, Shen Yu went home.
His parents didn't come back on his eighteenth birthday. When his college entrance exam scores came out, the elders in the family paid special attention. Even though Grandpa Shen had long since stopped managing things, he still had a say. With just one sentence, most of the Shen family members gathered in the living room to wait for the college entrance exam scores of Shen's only son. Shen Yu couldn't possibly be absent from such an occasion.
The results were supposed to be released at 5 p.m., and normally a phone call would have been enough to find out the score in advance, but Grandpa Shen insisted that he be treated the same as other candidates and wouldn't allow any shortcuts in the process.
This behavior was incomprehensible to Shen Yu's mother. For them, time was money, and there were several meetings waiting for her to attend.
She felt uneasy sitting on the sofa, her gaze darting left and right before finally settling on her son. Just as she was about to speak, she saw him take his phone and leave the living room.
Grandpa Shen sneered and said to the couple, "Look, we've neglected them all this time, and now they can't even say a word to us."
The caller was Chi Sheng. As soon as he answered, he asked if he knew about the relationship between Qiao Zhiwan's stepmother and his girlfriend.
The man from Shenyu leaned against the wall and didn't answer directly, but simply told the other party to speak plainly.
There was a rare moment of silence before someone on the other end said to Shen Yu, "Did you know that Qiao Zhiwan's stepmother is in jail?"
Shen Yu was taken aback. "What?"
Chi Sheng said, "I just heard it from my dad today. Qiao Zhiwan's stepmother committed murder, I think it was her ex-husband? He was arrested by the police. I thought this would affect—"
His words were interrupted when Shen Yu asked, "When did this happen?"
Chi Sheng recalled, "It's been a week or two. My dad kept it from me until my mom let it slip during dinner today."
Then she sensed something was off about Shen Yu's tone and asked, "A-Yu, what's wrong?"
It's been a week or two.
Shen Yu hung up the phone; the screen showed the time as 5 PM.
His father's voice came from the living room, telling him to come in and see his grades.
Shen Yu didn't answer, but instead opened his contacts and called Chen Mian.
The prison was quiet.
Through the glass window, the phone she used for communication was in her hand, pressed against her ear. Across from her, Ruan Yanmei looked at her and said, "Still with your boyfriend?"
Chen Mian said indifferently, "It's none of your business."
"It's none of my business." Ruan Yanmei repeated this sentence with a cold laugh. Her shackled hands held the microphone as she looked at Chen Mian across from her. She couldn't express her emotions. The last time they met, Chen Mian wore jewelry and drove a BMW. She acted like a superior and used her bank card to send Chen Mian abroad to study. But this time, everything had changed drastically.
The police asked her why she killed him.
No one could understand where she, who seemed so gentle and weak, got the courage to kill.
They couldn't understand or comprehend the feeling of having emerged from the darkness only to be entangled by rats again.
Her life was turned upside down. Chen Song couldn't find Chen Mian, so he kept pestering her, even after she was released from the detention center. The law had no effect on this kind of person, and the opinions of the outside world and ordinary morality and ethics did not work on him at all. He was a leech, and he would not stop until he had sucked her dry.
During this entanglement, Chen Song would squat outside her workplace every day, smiling as he approached her and begged for money. When security guards chased him away, he would just squat there. Occasionally, when someone carrying a briefcase walked in, he would grin, revealing his stained yellow teeth, and say, "Ruan Yanmei is your colleague, right? That's my ex-wife. She has a mole on her chest, and she's really attractive when she sleeps with her."
Hearing these words, all the colleagues frowned. They had never met such a person before, and most of the people around them were well-educated. When Ruan Yanmei first joined the company, she never dared to mention her educational background. She relied entirely on her appearance and hard work to barely fit into their circle of conversation and become a real colleague.
Chen and Song destroyed everything with just a few words.
No matter how hard she tried, it was no use. The effects of this failed marriage, after many years, once again completely destroyed her life like a sandstorm. Her boss found her and told her that it wasn't a solution for the person waiting at the door to keep waiting. He suggested that she take a break for a while and think of a solution, otherwise the constant coming and going of clients would have a negative impact.
Qiao Cheng gave Chen Song money several times, but found that Chen Song was a bottomless pit, so he lost patience. After many years of marriage, Ruan Yanmei had long lost her initial appeal to him.
For men and women of vastly different social standing, age is a double standard. The older a wealthy and powerful man gets, the more desirable he becomes, and there are always young women eager to take shortcuts to him. Temptations never cease. Qiao Cheng has had affairs before, but in the past, he respected Ruan Yanmei, who was fulfilling her duties as a mother and wife, and wouldn't let her find out.
However, Chen Song's appearance allowed Qiao Cheng to see the ugliness behind Ruan Yanmei's carefully made-up appearance. He saw her busy every day reading countless fashion magazines, with piles of expensive cosmetics on her dressing table. She talked to him about stocks and funds, about Qiao Zhiwan's education, and about the dinner party that Mrs. Chen and Mrs. Song had invited her to. Her eyes looked at him with the same admiration as before, but wrinkles had appeared at the corners of her eyes.
Beauty can be replaced.
As long as you put in the money, countless Ruan Yanmeis can stand in the position of a wife.
This realization caused Qiao Cheng to lose patience with Chen Song's repeated appearances.
The final divorce papers were handed over, ending the marriage.
It was like a castle in the air collapsing with a roar.
She had nothing left, but Chen Song still clung to her.
—If you don't have money, then go sleep with someone. You can still make some money with your looks, right?
—Do you really think you can get rid of me like this? What are you thinking, Ruan Yanmei? I've slept with you, so you'll always be mine.
Later, the police asked her what she was thinking when she was dismembering the body.
Ruan Yanmei said with a laugh, "Because he's disgusting."
He's disgusting. The things he used on her are disgusting, his hand reaching out to her is disgusting, his mouth when he spoke is disgusting, everything about him is disgusting.
She was so disgusted that she couldn't sleep day or night, lost her right to live freely, and couldn't even ask for help because all he did was verbally harass her. He was put in the police station for a few words of education and then released. What kind of illegal or criminal is verbal harassment? Just don't listen to it, just cover your ears.
"He ruined my entire future, so was I wrong to kill him?"
This is how Ruan Yanmei answered.
At this moment, she also looked at Chen Mian with that same vicious gaze.
"It has nothing to do with me. You are someone I gave birth to. If you can truly say you have nothing to do with me, then you shouldn't be here in the first place! You should stay where you are and not be in a place that doesn't belong to you!"
“You’re also Chen Song, you’re exactly the same as that beast, you have his blood in your veins, you’re a beast, Chen Mian! You’ve ruined my life, if it weren’t for you, how could I have ended up like this!”
"I shouldn't have given birth to you. I should have strangled you when you were just a baby! Why don't you just die? Go die! Go die!!!"
"You are me, and you are Chen Song! My present is your future! You will be abandoned, Chen Mian! No one will love you! What good can the daughter of a murderer and an alcoholic be! Chen Mian! Go to hell!"
The shouts attracted two prison guards from the doorway who came in and tried to calm her down, but to no avail. With more than twenty minutes of visiting time still available, they took her away.
Ruan Yanmei clung to the microphone as if it were her last lifeline, the telephone line stretched out very long.
Chen Mian remained seated, the microphone pressed against her ear, listening to Ruan Yanmei's hysterical voice repeatedly telling her, "Go to hell."
It was already dark when I came out of prison.
The time on my phone is 7 o'clock.
There were over fifty missed calls, all from Chen Yu.
The messages popping up on WeChat were all asking her if she had checked her scores, and there were also messages from her homeroom teacher.
She didn't open any of them.
She seemed perfectly normal. She took out her bus card, boarded the bus back to Shengshi Haoting, sat by the window, turned her head to look at the scenery outside, and then got off at her stop. When she swiped her card to enter the community, the security guard called out to her. He looked at her and hesitated for a moment before taking out a tissue and handing it to her, saying, "Don't be sad. Exams aren't everything in life."
It was only then that Chen Mian realized she was crying.
Somewhat belatedly, I reached out and touched my face, only to find my hand damp.
She wiped it with a tissue, appearing calm, and even managed to reply to the security guard, "It's okay, thank you."
Then I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for my floor.
The moment the elevator doors opened, I saw Chen Yu standing there, his forehead covered in sweat.
He seemed to have come from afar, his eyes blazing with fire. He stared at her for a long time, but in the end, he said nothing. He simply reached out, pulled her out of the elevator, and then held her in his arms.
"Sinking Domain".
Chen Mian called his name.
"Yes, I'm here." Shen Yu's voice was hoarse, his chest heaving violently, his whole body hot, and his clothes were soaked with sweat, making the embrace feel damp.
"Chen Song is dead."
"……I know."
"Ruan Yanmei killed him."
"I know that too."
She said it was all my fault.
Her voice remained calm, yet it caused Shen Yu unbearable heartache. "She's lying to you."
"—It's not your fault, it has nothing to do with you. Even without you, they would have ended up like this. You are different from them, Chen Mian. You are just yourself. None of this has anything to do with you. You are also a victim."
Chen Mian released her grip, and the crumpled tissue rolled to the ground.
She rested her head on Shen Yu's shoulder, and tears streamed down her face.
Even her crying was quiet, though her body trembled and her voice choked, "I'm not... I'm not sad."
"I'm just so tired... so very tired... The bus is constantly stuck in traffic, and it's raining... I'm so tired, Shenyu, why... why isn't it sunny..."
She came up with every lame excuse imaginable.
Blaming the weather, blaming the buses, blaming the traffic jams, blaming everything.
Then cover up the real reason behind it.
She was very sad.
Even though all reason tells her that this is a moment to be happy, Chen Song is dead, the nightmare that has haunted her for more than ten years has disappeared, the person who abandoned her is in prison, and her parents who brought her into this world have shown her the dirtiest side of this world, and then were punished by the world.
She should have been happy.
But she actually felt sad.
The strong outer shell was torn apart, revealing the fragile core inside.
Tears soaked Chen Yu's clothes.
The boy was at a loss, not even knowing how to comfort her, so he just patted her back and said to her again and again: I'm here.

This chapter was very difficult to write. It took me about a day to write it on and off, with cuts and revisions. I know that many people have been looking forward to the day Chen Song dies. Actually, there was some foreshadowing earlier, such as the last text message at the end of May followed by the disappearance of news, and the appearance of Ruan Yanmei, etc.
But I'm also worried that I didn't write it well. This part of the plot appears here, causing Chen Mian to completely lose all the darkness that existed in the past.
When I was writing, I always felt that my writing skills were limited. Perhaps there could have been a better way to present and describe it, but after a long time of editing and revising, the final version is the one I have now.
I hope to get some feedback, whether positive or negative. I want to know everyone's thoughts and opinions. Although it sounds a bit like an ending statement, I still want to say something a little sentimental: thank you for your support.
