62/Choose you

62/Choose you

Chen Mian sat in Shen Yu's car.

Deng Momo sent her a message asking what was wrong and why she suddenly asked that question.

Chen Mian used the debate competition as an excuse to brush it off, and the other end didn't press the matter further.

The atmosphere inside the car was quiet. The hug earlier made Chen Mian feel as if she had been tainted by Shen Yu's cold aura. She looked towards the driver's seat and saw him with a calm expression, his hands on the steering wheel, frowning in annoyance at the blocked road ahead.

Zhao Lili always said that Liu Junjie in college was different from Liu Junjie in high school. She said that he seemed to have grown up as a person after changing environments and leaving the campus.

This statement seems to apply to Shen Yu at this moment as well. In the past, he was always the one to break the peace between the two of them, asking her what she wanted to eat or what she wanted to do. But now he didn't say anything. His fingers unconsciously tapped on the steering wheel, the clattering sound blending into the English song as if it were part of the background noise.

The area was quiet, and Chen Mian didn't speak either.

It wasn't until the car entered the underground parking lot of a luxury apartment building that Chen Mian finally asked, "Aren't you going back to school?"

Shen Yu laughed, "You've practically brought it to my lips, why would I put it back for you?"

The words were so blunt that even opening the car door for Chen Mian seemed like a deliberate attempt to please him.

She looked up at him.

Then someone laughed and pulled him out of the passenger seat.

With a height difference of 22 centimeters, their shadows were stretched into two parallel, blurry figures.

The elevator stopped on the basement level. Chen Yu pressed the up button, and the door slowly opened.

The room was brightly lit, and there were mirrors all around. No matter where Chen Mian looked, he could see Shen Yu's white hoodie and the black coat he was holding in his arms but not wearing. His clothing colors were always simple black, white and gray. Back in high school, he never wore more than these three colors except when he had to wear a school uniform.

My gaze lingered on the mirror, but was suddenly caught by eyes that were also looking into the mirror, and our eyes met on the surface of the mirror.

Chen Mian was the first to look away, casually glancing at the floor numbers going up.

Shen Yu did not expose Chen Mian's feigned composure.

He led her out of the elevator, opened the apartment door, found a pair of slippers for her in the shoe cabinet, placed them under her feet, and said, "Come in."

However, Chen Mian did not move.

The layout here is exactly the same as that of the Grand Mansion, and even the furnishings inside are almost identical. It's as if time has been pulled back to the past. Standing by the shoe cabinet, Chen Yu even asked her with a smile if she didn't even know how to change her shoes after crying.

She slowly bent down, looked at the pink cotton slippers, and gave a slow "oh." Her slow reaction, which had been consistent throughout the day, had not eased at this moment. It was as if someone else was controlling her body. She changed into the slippers, sat on the sofa, held the warm water that Shen Yu handed her, and then saw Shen Yu sit down next to her.

The person in the car who was making what sounded like an invitation was now acting like an impeccable gentleman.

Now that they were alone in the spacious room, he naturally said to her, "Let's talk."

They had so much to talk about.

In the past, we always assumed that the other person understood each other implicitly. But when some things were said out loud, it cut the rope that kept the balance between us. Trying to cover things up and keep going until the end didn't work. Nobody can read minds, and even face-to-face communication can lead to differences in understanding.

Chen Mian put down her cup and said frankly, "But Shen Yu, I don't really know what to say to you. I saw you when I went to Tsinghua University to watch a basketball game with my roommates. Before that, I didn't think about you often. It was only after seeing you that I felt a little guilty. I felt that I should have been more tactful when I was at Suibei Station. I said some very harsh things. So I always feel that I owe you something and I'm afraid of hurting you."

It was rare for her to open up and tell Shen Yu her innermost thoughts.

She spoke haltingly, stopping frequently. Seeing his focused expression as he looked at her, she sighed silently and decided to express all her thoughts more directly.

"I don't know how other people get along or how they came to be together in private. Actually, I'm still pessimistic about relationships. Emotionally, I want to be with you, but rationally, I feel that we'll fall apart sooner or later."

Shen Yu interrupted her and asked, "Is it this way towards me, or would you think this way towards anyone?"

Chen Mian replied calmly, "It will only be you."

The four words startled Shen Yu. They were clearly a statement of disappointment in the relationship and a pause in their relationship, but in these four words, they became like an alternative confession. She was disappointed in the relationship and could not trust him. She wanted to go to him but was pessimistic and felt that even if they got together, it would be difficult to last. But even so, the only person she wanted to go to was him.

My affection is for him, and my pessimism is also for him.

Chen Mian is indeed a very difficult proposition to solve.

Shen Yu could understand everything she said, but to reply with "time will prove everything" would be too simplistic. What she couldn't trust was time, so how could she let something she couldn't trust prove the emotions she distrusted even more?

There are significant differences between them in their upbringing, social interactions, and all aspects of their lives.

In the circle of life in the mortal realm, there are quite a few business marriages. No matter what they are like in private, they all appear to be happy on the surface. For example, Chi Sheng's father keeps mistresses and concubines outside. His illegitimate children are about the same age as Chi Sheng, but he doesn't dare to bring any of them home. On the surface, they can still pretend to be a loving couple.

For them, love was nothing more than a delicious dish on the dinner table. The reason he could choose Chen Mian again and again was simply because everything he had made him incredibly confident in his feelings. Even if Chen Mian abandoned him, he would still live in a luxurious house and drive a luxury sports car. Even if his friends who knew the situation said he was pitiful, they would not think he deserved sympathy.

The joke is that he's a sycophant, but what they perceive as sycophancy is that he should be high above others, waiting to be pursued and chosen, but instead, he repeatedly ends up with someone who puts him last.

But Chen Mian is not.

During her high school years, Chen Mian had nothing. The glimpses of light and freedom she experienced were all thanks to Shen Yu's affection for her.

All the love she heard, saw, and felt was distorted. Only after entering university did she gain some confidence from the care of her friends and the recognition of her teachers. This confidence was reflected in her ability to reject things and people she didn't like without any scruples, and in her ability to express directly to him what she had previously concealed and convoluted.

Because she no longer needed him to breathe.

The scales that had been tipping between them finally began to balance.

So she said to Shen Yu, "Emotionally, I choose you, but Shen Yu, I don't know if I will give you up for other things in the future."

Shen Yu lowered his eyes, seemingly lost in thought.

The atmosphere quieted down again.

The hug on the roadside cooled down at that moment. What would be a simple act of liking someone else turned into countless obstacles that needed to be overcome between them.

After a long while, Chen Mian finally heard Shen Yu's voice, "I've thought about all of what you said, and I've also anticipated many scenarios in which you might give up on me, such as your studies being affected or some rumors, etc. But Chen Mian, who taught you to mix your confession into your harsh words?"

His tone was smiling, and his gaze towards her was gentle.

It felt like a gentle spring breeze.

Shen Yu had always given her the impression of a rich kid who had never experienced the hardships of life. He was in control of everything and never took setbacks seriously. He believed that there was nothing he couldn't handle and no difficulty that money couldn't solve.

This was the first time the two of them had a serious conversation.

It was as if they had all gotten to know each other again.

He accepted all her criticisms without question, but he never said anything about how her behavior was excessive, nor did he use any accusatory tone or forceful words. He simply acted as if he had grown into a gentle and mature man after leaving Suibei.

Then, in a nonchalant, almost dismissive tone, he said to her, "After all that, aren't you just trying to say that you're interested in me too, but not in the romantic sense? What's so hard about that?"

"Chen Mian, if you want to see me, just call me. If you want to come to me, just ask me for my location. If you want to date me, just tell me that the weather in Chenyu is nice today and perfect for us to be together. See? Isn't that pretty simple?"

Chen Mian asked him, "Would you be happy like this?"

Shen Yu raised an eyebrow. "What are you doubting? What you just said was that I've already given you so much pleasure. Chen Mian, I don't care how much hesitation or distrust you have about relationships. As long as the only person you want to choose in a relationship is me, I'm fucking happy, understand?"

Sorry for the long wait. There was no discussion, we just reached a point of calm. I've been writing the last few chapters rather slowly, but it will speed up later once this phase is over. I'll make up for the missed chapters slowly (TAT I won't back out, don't worry, it's just that these chapters have been really hard to write). (bows)
