63/Comparison
Girls' dormitory.
When Su Wangqiu returned from outside, he saw that only Deng Momo was in the dormitory, so he asked, "Where's Mianmian?"
Deng Momo stared intently at her phone, then showed it to Su Wangqiu to read Chen Mian's reply. Stroking her chin, she asked with a research-oriented spirit, "Don't you think Mianmian seems to be up to something? I just called her, and she asked me some questions about relationships."
Su Wangqiu was a little surprised, "She asked about your love life?"
Chen Mian? Relationships?
These four characters look strange no matter how they are arranged or combined.
Yu Yu returned from the library while the two were discussing things. As soon as she opened the dormitory door, she was stared at by two pairs of eyes.
"Yu Yu, hurry, come here and take a look—"
"Is something wrong? Is something going on?"
Yu Yu stared at her phone screen, remained silent for a moment, and then nodded slightly. "I guess so."
Su Wangqiu: "Huh?"
Deng Momo: "What's going on!"
Yu Yu remembered that she had promised Chen Mian not to tell anyone, so she only mentioned that she had seen a handsome guy in a white hoodie at the bar last time and that he seemed to have some interaction with Chen Mian.
"I don't know the specifics either, you should ask her yourselves."
Deng Momo narrowed her eyes, "The one wearing a white hoodie at the bar that night? Isn't that the one Old Zhang's school said was trending on social media?"
Su Wangqiu: "I remember telling Mianmian that the person looked like a celebrity."
The two exchanged a glance, then said in unison, "—So, he's Mianmian's ambiguous love interest?"
Deng Momo acted quickly, already messaging her boyfriend to ask about Shenyu. He replied almost instantly. Zhang Cheng was usually calm and rarely praised other men, even close friends, he would only say it was fine. But this time was different.
—He's a genius in our school's School of Management. He got in first place in his major and started working on projects outside of school as a freshman. I heard he invested seven or eight figures. At first, I thought he was just dabbling, but he actually made a name for himself. Some of our seniors are working with him. He's pretty impressive.
Deng Momo didn't want to ask those questions. Seeing that her boyfriend couldn't get to the point, she had no choice but to ask directly: "Do you have any photos to see?"
The video trending on social media only showed a side profile, and my memory of that night is hazy.
After a few seconds of silence, a string of ellipses appeared on the other end, followed by a passport photo that someone had somehow found.
One-inch ID photo, blue background.
The type of guy who is handsome at first glance has no flaws in his features, whether viewed individually or as a whole. Aesthetics are subjective, but there are always some types that appeal to everyone, and they have outstanding looks that make people take a second look wherever they go.
When Deng Momo sent the message to Chen Mian, Chen Mian was still at Shen Yu's house.
The evening news was playing on TV. Chen Yu sat on the carpet, elbows propped on the edge of the sofa, leaning back with one leg propped up. His phone screen displayed a food delivery interface, and he casually swiped through the listings, occasionally asking Chen Mian whether she preferred spicy or mild food.
Chen Mian's phone lit up, and when she picked it up, she saw a photo of Shen Yu's ID sent by Deng Momo.
The person in the photo has a clean and refreshing demeanor, like a glass of plum sparkling water placed on a table on a hot summer day.
Deng Momo sent countless exclamation marks, and finally said to her: Yes, yes, yes, this guy is really handsome!
Chen Mian sent a question mark.
The other side immediately sent a screenshot of Zhang Cheng's flattering words: This is the first time I've seen Zhang Cheng so interested in a guy. If he weren't my boyfriend, I would have thought he was gay.
The text contains information about a part of the submerged realm that Chen Mian had not participated in.
But Chen Mian wasn't surprised. Shen Yu was excellent in high school, the kind of person who was both smart and hardworking, and at the same time, he was very clear about what he wanted. In their senior year of high school, the two of them would compete with each other. Sometimes she would fall asleep on the table and wake up to find that Shen Yu's pen was still in use.
Having gone through that time working together, even when they parted ways, Chen Mian knew that Shen Yu's future should be bright, because he was always moving forward.
"Would you like some cake, Chen Mian? Blueberry or strawberry? Can you choose one?"
The boy at the center of the conversation handed her his phone, which displayed a beautifully crafted cake about the size of his palm. The price tag, which was close to 300, was quite attractive, enough for Chen Mian and her roommates to have a meal together outside.
"I'm not eating, I want to go back—"
I'll take you home later.
Shen Yu interrupted her directly, but didn't say exactly when "later" would be.
He didn't ask Chen Mian what she wanted to eat, and just ordered whatever he felt like.
When the deliveryman arrived, Shen Yu remembered something else. The door wasn't closed yet, and he heard the elevator doors closing in the hallway. He turned around and said to Chen Mian, who was walking over and taking the delivery bag from him, "Do you know what that is?"
He pointed in the direction of the elevator door.
"What?"
Then she heard Shen Yu's slightly amused voice say to her, "My colleague."
Chen Mian: "..."
She didn't remember what happened at the bar that night, but she could vaguely tell something was wrong from Shen Yu's expression, so she wisely chose not to respond. Instead, she grabbed her things and turned to head towards the dining table.
The man followed behind her and casually closed the door.
"I should have recorded it for you. I don't know who was it that kept pestering me to sell you bottled water, grabbing my clothes and not letting me leave, crying and saying why there was no bottled water for sale. Do you know what kind of look the delivery guy gave us when he delivered the food?"
"..."
After thinking for a while, Chen Mian interrupted him, saying, "You're mistaken."
No one could possibly be wrong about Shen Yu's memory. That day, Chen Mian clung to him, refusing to let him answer the phone. She even tugged at his sleeve as if facing a major crisis, telling him that something terrible was going to happen and they were about to be discovered. By then, Shen Yu had already lost his temper and let her tug at him, even asking who had discovered them. But then he saw the person in front of him throw herself into his arms, grabbing his clothes with both hands and trying to hide herself completely. Her voice also disappeared into the air as she mumbled that the teacher was going to find out.
The deliveryman arrived around that time, carrying supermarket bags and panting. He was about to complain about why the deliveryman didn't answer the phone and how hard it was to find the place when he saw the girl in the tall boy's arms stand up straight, bow deeply to him, and say very sincerely, "Good evening, teacher."
It was obvious they were drunk. The deliveryman was silent, unsure of what to say, when he saw the girl being pulled back into the boy's arms. One hand was around her wrist, and the other hand was like controlling a cat, pressing down on the back of her neck and pulling her close. He said with a laugh in his voice, "Sorry, my girlfriend has had too much to drink."
Shen Yu later found it funny and asked her, "What were you thinking, treating a deliveryman like a teacher? Did you think we were having a puppy love in the school corridor?"
Chen Mian denied it, saying without changing her expression, "You're just imagining things because you've had too much to drink."
She never expected there would be a reckoning later, let alone that it would happen after the two of them had confessed to each other.
This development is as strange as a comedy suddenly being inserted into a tragic movie.
But Chen Yu didn't stop there. While tearing open the takeout bag, he continued to expose her, "Well, the part where you were crying and calling out 'Zhao Lili' while hugging the takeout bag was also my imagination. It's just that I didn't record it, Chen Mian. If I had, you would have been in deep trouble for a whole year."
"..."
She's drunk, not stupid.
It was already 8 p.m. when I got back to school.
Chen Mian got out of the car near the school and bumped into Lin Yuqing, who was walking out with her friends.
Lin Yuqing stopped there, looking at her meaningfully before glancing at the black Bugatti.
Chen Mian didn't even look at him, but when she closed the car door, Shen Yu called her name.
He rolled down the car window and glanced deliberately in Lin Yuqing's direction, his gaze clearly indifferent yet carrying a hint of contempt.
Lin Yuqing didn't know what their relationship was, and she got a little angry after being looked at by Shen Yu.
There were people all around him, and they looked at him as if he were a heartbroken, bitter man.
Suppressing his temper, he called out Chen Mian's name, "The debate is tomorrow, remember to come to the school cafeteria tonight to discuss it again."
Finally, he added, "Is that your friend?"
Shen Yu rested his hands on the steering wheel, listening to Lin Yuqing's words without any expression. He just tugged at the corner of his lips and looked at Chen Mian. His beautiful peach blossom eyes seemed to say two words: Him?
That glance was no different from watching a joke, but who knew Chen Mian could make him feel good, and he directly replied to Lin Yuqing, "Not a friend, but someone I want to develop a relationship with."
Shen Yu lowered his eyes, looked at his wrist, and chuckled softly.
He then looked up at the two of them and said, "I'll pick you up tonight."
He was speaking to Chen Mian, but his eyes were glancing at Lin Yuqing out of the corner of his eye.
Chen Mian: ...
She knew Shen Yu too well. Although she knew that Shen Yu was proud and arrogant, he had never regarded the women around her as rivals, or rather, he disdained them.
But she did hear a rare hint of smugness in those words.
