Si Shuo seemed to be in the mood to play a trick on someone. He suddenly moved closer to Shi Qingmiao, his eyes rapidly enlarging in her dark brown pupils, taking in her long, thick eyelashes. His tone was sincere, "Shi Qingmiao, I like you."
All his roundabout ways were used to deal with courtiers and enemies, but he was unwilling to fool his beloved at all.
Shi Qingmiao's ears buzzed, as if the surroundings had lost their voices. All she could see was Si Shuo's face and his shocking confession. "You, what did you say?"
"I said I like you," Si Shuo emphasized again, "Everything I said yesterday was no joke. I want to marry you."
Shi Qingmiao understood, and her pupils gradually dilated. She seemed unable to believe what Si Shuo said. Gradually, a feeling of grievance surged up like a tide. Her heart was in a mess, and there was only one voice saying: This is not right!
“Snap—”
The crisp sound of a slap echoed in the room. Si Shuo was caught off guard and was slapped. Before Shi Qingmiao fled, she said, "The person you should like is Princess Minzhi!"
Si Shuo was the only one left in the room, covering his aching cheek. Was he being rejected?
"Master, I told you not to confess yet." Fanxing suddenly appeared and squatted beside Si Shuo, sprinkling a handful of pure salt on his wound.
Si Shuo released his hand that was covering his cheek and patted the back of Fanxing's head with it, "What's your business?!"
"She must like me."
Fanxing didn't know where Si Shuo got his mysterious confidence from. He even slapped him in the face when he confessed his feelings, but he still didn't recognize his situation?
Si Shuo is his master, and he needs to pull Si Shuo out of the quagmire of narcissism.
"Master, when will we return to Simu Kingdom?"
Si Shuo looked at the dark-faced man who had been following him for several years and said, "Why are you bringing up such a topic?"
"I'll go back when I get a wife."
"That may take forever." Fanxing muttered.
***
Near noon, Si Shuo was idle in the palace waiting for Shi Qingmiao to come back. He seemed to regret expressing his feelings to her so quickly, but he felt suffocated if he didn't say it.
He sat on the steps in front of the main hall, supporting his chin, looking at Fanxing who was teasing Xiaosi. The scene of a big, black-faced man teasing a puppy was really scary.
"Fanxing, what do you think is the probability of success if I elope with her?"
Fanxing didn't look at him and continued to tease Xiao Si, "Master, the probability is zero."
Si Shuo tutted, closed his eyes in frustration, and changed into a more comfortable position. "Of course I know the probability is small, but can't you encourage others?"
Fanxing pursed her lips and said nothing.
"The Queen Mother has arrived—"
Eunuch Bai's familiar voice reached Changding Palace, and then Helan Qin appeared in front of Si Shuo.
Si Shuo sighed, dusted off his clothes, stood up and saluted.
"Nothing. I heard you had a high fever yesterday, so I came to see you." Helan Qin coughed weakly. She hadn't been attending court due to health reasons, so she came here right after getting up. "How are you? Are you feeling better?"
"I thank the Queen Mother for her concern. I am much better now." Si Shuo thought that even in such a poor condition, she still rushed to see him.
"Oh," Si Shuo made way, "International, please."
After sitting down, Helan Qin's breathing became much calmer. She smiled generously and asked, "Are you used to living here?"
On weekdays, Si Shuo would go to Fengluan Palace to pay her respects. This was the first time she came to Changding Palace. She hadn't been there for so many years, so it was a little deserted.
"It's very quiet here." Si Shuo didn't say anything good or bad, he just held the bowl of water evenly.
"Ah," Helan Qin looked around. Only Fanxing and Sishuo were here. "Where's Miao'er?"
"She," Si Shuo didn't know where the little girl had gone, "maybe she went out to play."
"It's not good to be too playful." Helan Qin didn't mean to blame Shi Qingmiao. She just smiled and didn't think that what she did was inappropriate at all. Instead, she seemed to be doting on her.
No matter how you look at it, he doesn't treat a palace maid at all, but rather like his own granddaughter.
"What do you think of Minzhi? Are you satisfied?" Sure enough, this topic had to be discussed.
But how should Si Shuo answer? After all, he had not had much contact with them and did not even know how to give an objective evaluation.
"It's alright, alright."
What he said was very vague, not specific or vivid.
Helan Qin frowned when she heard him say this, and then she understood the other meaning behind his words, "Si Shuo, if you like other girls, you can tell me."
It would be best if it wasn't Helan Minzhi, and she wasn't that worried about him marrying into that desolate place if it wasn't her, the daughter of the Helan family.
"It's okay actually..." Si Shuo pretended to be embarrassed.
Helan Qin smiled and said, "Don't worry, I don't mean to blame you."
"Then I'm really saying it." Si Shuo had an expression that said "Are you sure?"
Helan Qin nodded, signaling him to speak with confidence.
"I want to marry Shi Qingmiao."
After he finished speaking, the air seemed to freeze for a few seconds. He Lanqin suddenly laughed, but it was a cold laugh. "Si Shuo, do you think you are good at joking?"
Si Shuo also smiled, but the smile did not reach his eyes. "I'm not kidding."
Helan Qin put away her smile. She coughed first, then started coughing violently. Eunuch Bai wanted to help her, but she stopped him and asked him to step aside.
After her breathing calmed down, Helan Qin said, "Do you know what you are talking about?"
