Chapter 175 Chapter 175 [VIP]

The clown wanted to saw wood, so Megan helped him. Although she was busy, it seemed that it didn't matter whether she was there or not. She just stood by and watched, handed tools, and finally managed to get herself covered in dust. On the other hand, even though the clown was the one doing all the work, he didn't look as embarrassed as her. He took off his work hat and shook it, and picked up his clothes to pull it, and all the wood chips and debris fell out.

He nailed a simple wooden table in place, lifted it and set it aside. He looked at the painted-faced child before him and said in a slow, measured voice, "My goodness, having you here hasn't improved my work efficiency, but I'm not working alone, and I feel much better."

This was obviously not a nice thing to say, but Megan squatted on the ground, looking at him seriously and attentively, and nodded, "Okay, I'll help Dad." The expression on her face was completely relaxed. She really enjoyed their parent-child activities and liked doing things with her father.

"Yes, I have much to thank you for, child."

The clown walked towards her, bent down and picked up a few obvious sawdust that had fallen on her hair and brushed them away. When he wanted to pull Megan up, her legs were a little numb and her movements were not smooth, so the clown simply picked her up and carried her out of the workshop. He walked to the faucet outside the house, took out a handkerchief from his pocket, wet it, and wiped her face.

But he only used one hand, and the handkerchief was not wrung out dry, so Megan's face was splashed with water, and her black curly hair was wet and stuck to her cheeks, making her look pitiful again. The clown put her on the ground and said with a smile: "I don't need your help from now on. Do you want to watch from the side, or play outside or inside?"

Megan raised her hand and grabbed his sleeve, "I want to watch, Dad, will you make toys for me?" If he made toys for her with his own hands, she would be so surprised.

She asked, but her heart and eyes were filled with anticipation, and she was certain that her request would be met. Her eyes were already filled with joy. The clown smiled twice, "Making toys? That's too easy. Then just follow me."

So they went back to the workshop together, and the clown ordered his daughter around, but she never got impatient or complained. She felt happy and satisfied because she was helping. Even when she was not asked to do anything, she would sit on the shelf next to her, humming some random tunes, swinging her legs for fun, and sometimes making faces at him while he was picking up tools.

"Honey, you don't have any sense of deterrence and you can't scare anyone, so why are you still addicted to this game?" He has been curious about this question for too long.

Megan had just finished making faces and saw that she hadn't scared him, but she was still full of spirit. She said, "Guess?"

Children always have some strange ideas and logic that ordinary people can't guess. The clown takes care of her mental state, but he also cares about her harmless little problems? Maybe he is deliberately playing a prank on him to attract attention -

She used to love doing this.

Megan felt that the clown seemed to be really taking her to experience country life, but she kept staying around him and refused to play by herself. She watched the clown make several pieces of furniture in a day, and he also found the pulleys in the workshop and made her a children's pedal car, which she played with near the house.

By the time he brought a single-serving dinner to Meghan, he had already changed back into his tuxedo suit. He looked like he was about to leave, so Meghan asked, "Are you leaving? Where are you going?"

The clown placed his lunch box on the table he had just finished working on today and was adjusting his bow tie. He glanced at her and said, "Of course I'm here for something. Someone hid something nearby a long time ago, and it's time to reclaim it. But don't run around, kid. If you go into the jungle, some large animal might come and hunt you, and they'll get their dinner too."

After finishing the threatening words, the clown picked up the cane beside the door and walked out, closing the repaired door. As for the inside of the house?

The wires in the house had been pulled, the lights had been installed, and the TV was placed aside but the signal had not been debugged yet, so nothing could be watched now. Megan went upstairs during the day and saw her bedroom. The luggage she brought had been packed, and the bedding, slippers, pajamas, etc. were all there. There was also a water heater in the bathroom.

But her father had left, leaving her here alone. After dinner, Megan heard all kinds of noises in the dense forest outside the house, as well as the chirping of some small animals and birds. For some reason, she always felt that there were many monsters outside, and they always wanted to jump out to scare her, or even chase her.

The timid Megan was going upstairs to clean up and wash up. She would feel safe hiding under the quilt, but suddenly she saw a puppet on the first step.

A short, stocky, fuzzy-haired puppet.

Megan picked it up and looked at it. It was not carved very finely, and there were small burrs on the surface. The face and body were blurred, and there were two small braids on both sides of the head. She subconsciously knew that it was herself, so she became more proud. No monster could scare her anymore. She walked upstairs excitedly, thinking about where to put the puppet.

On the other side, the clown walked farther and farther in the night, and found a dry well in a remote weed patch. He used his walking stick to push aside the weeds, confirmed that this was the spot, and went down the ladder directly. The light at the bottom of the well was even darker, but he had already prepared for it. He pulled out a flashlight from behind him, turned on the light, and what appeared in front of him was a passage at the bottom of the well.

This was not his first time here, yet it seemed a little unfamiliar to him. He walked forward on the accumulated dust and dry mud. The underground passages were interconnected and winding. He even passed through some roads that were obviously formed naturally and were only slightly hewn and leveled. The underground caves along the way were either wide or narrow, but the overall route was constantly going down, and sometimes there were some water curtains and potholes blocking the way. Even though he paid more attention to his image, he was still embarrassed when he reached his destination.

His tuxedo suit was soaked, his exquisitely crafted leather shoes were covered in mud, as were his trouser legs. However, none of these were as important as the small pool of water in front of him.

In the middle of this natural cave was a shallow green pool of water. The clown stood in front of it, took off his top hat, and scooped up some of the water with it. His hat was not waterproof, and the water dripped down, but he had already confirmed that the thing in front of him was what he was looking for.

"My old friend, it seems someone has forgotten you?"

"This place was leased out years ago, but I never imagined those idiots couldn't even protect their 'asset'. And yet they claim to have seized most of Gotham's wealth? This is truly ridiculous."

"But it also made me realize that they might be hiding a 'big one'? Alas, a bunch of fools, maybe they've even forgotten some of their ancestors' teachings? They've long lost sight of Gotham's true master, but maybe it's intentional? They're deliberately hiding the ancient curse, pretending nothing happened, thinking the curse itself will fade with time..."

The clown squatted down, put his hat aside, took off a leather glove, dipped his pale hand into the pool water and casually moved it, then saw bubbles emerging from the bottom of the water, as if it were boiling.

When he returned to the cabin in the woods, he found that the light in Megan's bedroom was still on. She usually turned off the lights when she went to bed, leaving only a night light on, so he went to take a look, but he didn't expect Megan to suddenly wake up. She was sleeping soundly, and suddenly she smelled a familiar smell. She opened her eyes dazedly and found the clown standing by the bed.

She was so sleepy that she was slow to react, or perhaps she hadn't woken up at all. The clown stretched out a hand and covered her eyes lightly, blocking out the light in the room, and said, "Go to sleep." Then Megan continued to sleep.

The next morning, Megan got up early and washed up and went to find the clown. She walked around him and asked curiously, "Dad, what did you do last night? And I seemed to dream about you."

The clown handed her the sandwich, fried fish and hot corn juice in the fast food bag and ignored her first question, "So what did you dream about?"

"I dreamed that you held me in the water and wouldn't let me get out."

Joker:? He laughed inexplicably, "Oh my God, this is such a ridiculous dream. How could I treat you like that?" What was going on in her head all day and night? It was incomprehensible to him.

They were going to live here for quite a while, and there were many things that needed to be taken care of carefully. The Joker looked like he had no intention of committing a crime, and he was just busy around the house, making furniture today and repairing the roof tomorrow. But one day he brought a big thing over, and the machine was locked in the utility room. Megan was warned not to get close out of curiosity.

Megan was an obedient child and didn't go near when she was told not to. However, one day she saw the clown moving the machine away, and what he finally got was a safe full of strange liquids. They were in tiny test tubes and looked extremely strange and ominous. She watched the clown packing them.

"What is this?" the child asked curiously.

"This is some roughly purified stuff. Just a few drops can confuse your mind, but maybe it can transform you and give you new talents?" The Joker said as he closed the safe. He didn't mind letting Megan discover this little secret, because its deeper secrets were still hidden, and very few people in this world really knew about it.

Megan said 'Oh' and lost interest. She asked, "Dad, when are we going back to Gotham?"

The Joker looked at her with a smirk, "I'm guessing you haven't been watching the news in Gotham lately?"

"Mr. Freeze is angry. He's wreaking havoc on Gotham. Batman and Robin are temporarily powerless against him. And this poor fellow..." The poor fellow he was referring to was undoubtedly Mr. Freeze. He grinned grimly, "He's frozen the port, and he still has a lot of hostages. If they're not thawed within three to five days, they'll all slowly wither away and die in the ice."

Megan slowly opened her eyes and asked, "Why?" Victor's temper was not bad. He even treated Megan patiently when she casually walked into his laboratory. Moreover, he was obsessed with research and generally did not participate in the criminal plans of the people in Arkham. So why did Victor freeze the port?

Her view of good and evil was a little too simplistic, and the Joker saw it. He laughed sarcastically, "I won't tell you that he has deep difficulties. Although it is true, you must know that this incident, as well as many previous incidents, have people behind them."

"Everything in the world can be traced back to its cause. There is a group of nocturnal animals. They are crazy and greedy, coveting more wealth and power. They are high above, manipulating things secretly, and their kind are spread all over the world."

"As for more? You don't need to know yet." The clown casually skipped over the topic.
