Chapter 20 Chapter 20

Chapter 20 Chapter 20

Poison Ivy is a little more concerned about Megan, but her behavior is the same as before. You have to know that the reason she can gain a foothold in Arkham and have a status where she is not bullied or looked down upon is not only because of her own abilities, but also because of her scheming and strategy.

Since she truly loves a child, she will check for dangers around her, identify the source of danger and the level of danger. Once an accident occurs, even if she cannot arrive in time, she will know who to kill to calm her anger.

But to be honest, the most dangerous person around Meghan is the one she relies on the most——

clown.

She didn't know how the Joker had successfully deceived the child and turned her into a good girl who would obey him, but she saw Megan's trust and dependence on him. She only saw that person in her eyes, and others like her, Killer Croc, and Riddler. Even though she got along with them, she did not accept them.

Poison Ivy thought about it and felt that Megan was safe for the time being. As long as the Joker was there, her safety could actually be maximized, so she didn't care.

Arkham has become lively due to the planning of Penguin and Black Mask. There are more prison guards coming and going in the high-risk area, but they are not necessarily regular prison guards. Some are stuffed in to make up the numbers, and some are spies and manpower from various forces. It is a mixed crowd, and the criminals are eager to get involved.

Megan had nothing to do with these things and maintained her daily routine of going out, but one day, on her way from the Joker's cell to the large passage, she met a strange person blocking the road.

He was a short but thin man, leaning against the wall with a somewhat sloppy look. He was only wearing a thin shirt with his sleeves rolled up high. His exposed arms were almost all covered with knife scars, and his smooth and round head slightly reduced his sinister temperament.

He heard footsteps and was waiting for her. He looked up and saw Megan. His eye sockets were deeper than those of ordinary people, making his eyes stand out. The moment he saw his target, he became alert. He swung a folding knife in his hand and said with an abnormal expression: "I've heard of you a long time ago, kid."

A hazy madness enveloped him, and he immersed himself in that atmosphere, making a posture ready for battle. It was obvious that he regarded the child he was waiting for as prey.

He said, "I will rescue you..."

Rescue her from this meaningless world. As long as they die, people can break this 'meaninglessness'. In the kingdom of the dead, they will find eternal peace and no longer struggle for any meaning or purpose. They will be immersed in the happiness of having nothing to gain and nothing to ask for, forever and ever.

But just as he took a step forward, a bullet hit him in front of his feet in a demonstrative manner. Victor Zass quickly retracted his foot, and his hand without the knife was leaning on the wall. He suddenly woke up and his eyes became extremely ferocious.

Victor was angry that his actions were interrupted, but when he saw who was coming, he suppressed the emotion.

The Penguin came out from behind the corner, holding a black umbrella in his hand. Every corner of his exquisite and expensive coat was neatly arranged. He wore a monocle and a top hat, and the smile on his face was always creepy. He raised the brim of his hat and looked at Victor. "Let me see what you are doing?"

The tone of his voice was full of false politeness. After all, the tip of the black umbrella in his hand was slightly raised. It was obvious that if Victor dared to move, he would never hold back.

The umbrella is his weapon. When he needs it, the firepower bursting out from the tip of the umbrella can even rival that of a Gatling gun. How such a small umbrella can achieve this level is his exclusive secret.

"I've always considered myself a ruthless businessman. Who would do something that didn't benefit them? What do you think, Victor?" But he smiled. "I see your condition is getting worse. I won't be able to use you outside recently."

Who doesn't know what's going on behind the scenes at Arkham? But they can't win over big-name gangsters like the Penguin and Black Mask. Even if the Penguin can modify props and has many inventions, compared to the other more talented lunatics in Arkham, he sells the least, not to mention he can produce and sell them himself.

Geniuses have privileges, even crazy geniuses. Arkham is a huge den of money. Even though there is no extravagance and decadence here, the economic circulation in Gotham and the upper class of the United States cannot be ignored. It is extremely terrifying.

A certain creature secretly rules Gotham, a secret even deeper than Batman's. Their spies are spread across every corner of Gotham, controlling the city's vast wealth. They spend money in Arkham and earn money outside of it. They are well-versed in the laws of money circulation, ensuring they will reap the greatest benefits...

They rule Gotham, so even if the city is filled with blood and death due to more criminals than there is room for them, they can ensure that it will never crash in a precarious situation - otherwise how can they continue to make a profit?

Only businessmen can see the rules clearly. The Penguin Man has seen some clues, but he will consciously keep the secret. After all, he doesn't want to die suddenly one day and let other opponents inherit his legacy.

There was nothing more to say after the Penguin said that. Victor didn't understand what he meant, but he realized that he was protecting Megan, so he tilted his head and slowly retreated.

As the serial killer left, the tip of the Penguin's umbrella fell to the ground.

The tip of the umbrella kept hitting the ground, making a 'click, click' sound. He walked slowly to Megan and looked at her for a moment. He saw that the child was not afraid at all. This might be a small problem of hers, or it might be that she was confident. He said to her, "I'll tell the clown about this."

They walked together in the aisle, and the Penguin Man took out a well-packaged small cake from his coat pocket and gave it to her. This was something that was convenient and did not interfere with his own affairs, so he would do it even if there was no benefit.

When the Penguin Man was about to separate from her and take different paths, he laughed and said, "What benefit? Purely for benefit? I want benefit because I want to do what I want." He was confident about this matter.

He was fat and short, but still taller than Megan at her current age. He patted her head gently and said, "Find someone to pick you up, so you don't run into that kind of murderer again next time."

There was no sign of concern in the Penguin, but he still walked with Megan for a while, and left neatly after giving her some instructions.

Megan went to find Killer Croc, but before she reached the dungeon, he heard the noise and came up.

Killer Croc's scales were still stained with water, so he couldn't hold her, so they walked slowly together. When they passed Mudface's cell, they heard strange noises from inside, but neither of them paid any attention to it. Instead, they arrived at the door of another tall cell. Megan walked forward and leaned against the door, then heard a muffled sound coming from inside.

There was a big guy inside, who was playing with his clothes. He seemed to have noticed someone outside, so he stood up and walked step by step towards the cell door. His huge zombie-like hands tried to grab the narrow window and open it, but he failed several times. Finally, his hands were taken away, and a pale and stiff face slowly appeared in front of the window.

His eyes were a little dull, floating in the air for a long time before moving downwards. He completely ignored Killer Croc and only saw the child.

Megan also looked up. It was difficult for them to communicate. At this time, Killer Croc directly picked up Megan so that she could get close to the zombie monster and keep her eye level.

The young child took a leaf out of her pocket and handed it straight to the window. He stared at her. After several minutes, the face moved away temporarily, and a huge hand carefully took the leaf away.

Megan came over just to give him the leaf, and was about to leave after he took it. Killer Croc also knew what she was thinking, so he turned and left, leaving the monster to mutter dully, "Grundy...Grundy..."

No one knew what he meant.

Birds fly back and forth in Arkham, and Poison Ivy is quite aware of this, because birds bring seeds and also take away seeds. They are good friends with plants. They do things for someone and deliver messages, but they also need to stop and rest, fold their wings and stay with the plants.

Poison Ivy couldn't understand the chirping of birds, but she was keenly aware of something. However, she would not get involved in those things. It was May, and many plants in the greenhouse were in bloom.

They have been accumulating energy for flowering for a long time in advance, and the power of life blooms unreservedly along with the flowering. Under her careful care, they are full of vitality, and no plant withers or dies unexpectedly.

She kept her promise and invited Megan to see the flowers bloom. Both the orchids and the broad-leaved mountain laurel were in bloom. The former bloomed elegantly and quietly on the flower stand, with bluish-white flowers that were neither large nor dense, shaped like flying birds, and not standing out among the slender leaves. The mountain laurel, on the other hand, was noisy and lively, blooming in large clusters, all crowded together, with each flower showing off to its full potential.

There is a pleasant plant scent in the greenhouse. Even though it is a mixture of multiple smells, it is not strong or annoying.

Poison Ivy looked at them with the purest joy and love in her eyes, and her most adorable child was prowling among the plants like a snake. Suddenly, there was a fluttering sound of wings in the corner, and then it swam over with its captured prey.

It was a common woodcreeper, but Poison Ivy couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at it. She waved her hand to signal the vines to let it go. The bird with a pale back and a white belly hopped around in place, confused about what had just happened but didn't understand why. In the end, it chose to fly away. She said with dissatisfaction: "They always do things like this-"

"They disrupt the natural order simply because of their arrogance. They never see the damage their actions cause to the outside world. Or maybe they see it, but do they care?"

"No, they don't care, because they claim to be the ones who control the rules."

A sneer appeared on Poison Ivy's face. She didn't do anything now because of the agreement she had reached with Batman, but if she had the chance, she would deal with her fellow inmates without mercy.

The plants are blooming, so the most urgent thing is pollination, so a group of bees and butterflies are added to the greenhouse. They have not been released yet. In order to prevent a child from being stung by a bee, Poison Ivy directly threw her to Killer Croc.

The hideous and terrifying crocodile monster walked in front, and Megan followed with small steps. She held a long weed leaf in her hand, and every time the tip of the weed drooped, it would sweep across the Killer Croc's tail, but the force was too slight to be felt at all.

Killer Croc knew what she was doing, but didn't care at all. They were not going to the lawn because it was gradually summer. Even though the sky in Gotham was always covered with dark clouds and haze, the ultraviolet rays were still strong and children's skin could not bear it. Recently, he was teaching Megan to read.

There is a library in Arkham, but few people come here at any time. Even the cleaners only come once a week and don't care much about hygiene, just to maintain the books.

Those philanthropists in Gotham City who pity or hate these lunatics and donate books to Arkham Asylum, do they hope that they will fall in love with literature, have a philosophical mind, or learn from the books and never do evil again? More likely, it is just a performance by the philanthropists.

Even though these books are not valued, they are still 'valuable' and cannot be damaged easily.

Killer Croc brought Megan and easily unlocked the door. The atmosphere here was silent, with dust floating in the air. His vertical pupils scanned the entire environment, confirming that no one else was here and there was no "extra things". He then went to the bookshelf to take books for school-age children. From this, it could be seen that those people really didn't care what they donated.

Megan had been following Killer Croc, following him closely. Wherever his tail swung, she went. For a moment, he felt that Megan was his little tail...

The author has something to say:

The word count is updated according to the weekly list requirements because the word count, list, and collection of the articles before v are all very important. Generally, the word count will be controlled to try to get on the list and accumulate enough to reach the v line (weekly list time: one week, from Thursday this week to next Wednesday).

I am a reverse V player → I still need to control the number of words and accumulate collections, otherwise many chapters will be reversed later. That's it.

Victor Zsasz's image is based on the American TV series "Gotham", but the plot and character traits are based on the comics.

And our villains are not whitewashed, they are just written from a different perspective. Megan's identity as the Joker's property allows her to be safe in Arkham, but it does not mean that the Joker and other villains are okay.
