Chapter 203 [Extra] Multidimensional Travel · 11 [Extra]
The homesick child said she wanted to go home, but what mattered at the moment was dinner. The Joker carried her back to the manor house. Even though all the vigilantes were out in full force, the old butler stayed here and prepared a sumptuous dinner for the two visitors from another world.
The Joker had already changed back into his tuxedo before eating. After washing his hands and rinsing his mouth, he said to the children beside him, "Let's go and see the excitement in Gotham City."
Then he took Megan to the study, opened the mechanism familiarly, and even passed the identity verification. When he entered the elevator and was about to go down, Alfred followed and smiled at Megan while she didn't understand what was happening.
As for the surveillance cameras in Wayne Manor and the Batcave? Probably everyone, except little Megan, knows they're working diligently. Maybe Batman's even watching them between battles. But just as Batman assured him, the Joker isn't about to do anything awful to Megan. Did he raise this child just to traumatize her? And then create some rift between them?
He was a madman, at most a bit chaotic and evil, but not completely irrational, so his sunk costs were completely sunk...
Anyway, this touches on his taboo.
The three of them went to the Batcave and could see that there were fewer vehicles on display. The Joker looked around with his cane and was not very satisfied. Finally, he walked to the Batcomputer, as if he was the real master here. He entered the command skillfully and without encountering any obstacles. Under Alfred's gaze, he called up an "old guy" whose appearance was already outdated.
A lift controlled by a background program brought it up and presented it to the Joker. He patted the hood of the car and sighed, "I knew that the little bat in this universe also kept it! He's such a nostalgic person, right?" His last words were directed to Alfred.
How could the old butler respond? With a look of nostalgia, he looked at the vehicle Batman had used when he first started fighting crime. Its appearance was completely different from the current Batmobile, more like a luxury car, without any trace of high-tech equipment. However, he said, "Yes, it is the best Batmobile here."
Even though Batman rarely uses this car anymore, it doesn't mean he hasn't been constantly modifying it. Alfred once accompanied him as his assistant, handing him tools and watching the car's interior assembly undergo a major transformation.
Alfred did not stop the Joker, and after Megan came forward to look at the car, she said to the Joker: "Dad, it belongs to Batman, you can't damage it."
The clown was silent for a moment, then asked with interest, "Why?"
"Just like my collection, if you lose it or break it, I will cry too." Megan said seriously, because she herself doesn't like some things and would never treat others like that. Now they are guests in someone else's home and have to use someone else's car, so it is natural not to cause damage.
She has such rich empathy, but only rarely uses it to demand things from others. But her father is not someone else. She is a polite child, which means being polite to others and then restraining the good father around her.
But this is not a problem. If they are not out together, like when he is missing, even if Megan sees reports about his crimes on TV, she will not ask or say much. But since the Joker wants to take her with him, shouldn't he be reasonable? Otherwise, if he embarrasses the child, she will cry again.
Seeing how pitiful she sounded, the Joker sighed pretentiously, "Well, since you don't want the Batman of this universe to cry and fuss over a lost toy, I'll use it with caution."
Megan nodded with satisfaction. She was so proud of herself here. Alfred looked at her and smiled slowly. She was a good child, but a miracle born in a universe with many clowns. The future of 'Megan West' in this universe had been cut off long ago. He felt extremely regretful, but also felt strangely that perhaps this was the last time he would see this child.
Before Megan got into the car, Alfred handed her a plush blanket and a small box. It was really small, about the size of a cigarette box. The outer shell was made of special materials. There didn't seem to be any gaps in the box, and no one knew how to open it.
Megan looked at it curiously and asked him for help, "Afu, what is this?"
Alfred said kindly, "It's just a trivial little gift, Miss Megan. You will know how to open it when you go back, or you can ask Master Jason from your universe for help?" The implication was that this gift used a unique craftsmanship of bat technology. If she couldn't find a way herself, then any member of the Bat family could open it for her.
He looked at Megan with a squint, said thank you to him affectionately, and then sat in the old Batmobile with the Joker. The Joker had already hacked into the system and easily obtained driving authority.
Although the car's exterior was clearly dated, the Joker pressed a button and it seemed to have been completely refurbished. The car's body vibrated, and even the chassis rose slightly. A console with a display screen appeared in front of the car. He glanced at the child beside him, "I trust you've fastened your seatbelts?"
Even though the child would often cause trouble that made him unhappy, she had always been conscious of fastening her seat belt when riding in a car since she regained consciousness. Megan patted the seat beside her with both hands and said affirmatively: "Yeah! Ready!" She said she was ready, but the clown still adjusted the seat and seat belt height for her.
"Then let's go."
It is known that the bridge connecting Wayne Manor and Gotham City has been bombed, so of course the vehicle chosen by the Joker has a flying function. Soon, the car slowly took off with a roar, and at the same time, the entrance and exit on the side of the Batcave opened. As he gently tapped the button, a huge push on her back pressed Megan firmly on the back of the chair. When she came to her senses, what she saw in front of her was the dark and cloudy night sky, and the bat logo faintly projected on the clouds in front.
As the vehicle's flying speed gradually stabilized, the roar at startup gradually disappeared, and the lights in the car dimmed. Megan only focused on the scenery. They flew from the suburbs to the neon-filled Gotham City and circled several times. When she had seen enough of the scenery, the Joker decided to find a place to land.
He operated it skillfully, and during the descent, the communication channel in the car suddenly opened, and Batman's voice came out from it, "Two hours have passed, Joker, and there is no movement on the gift you prepared."
The clown sneered in an ambiguous manner, "Oh, old friend, I forgot to inform you——"
“The event has been postponed.”
But in reality, he was just saying it lightly. After Batman hung up, he squinted his eyes and thought for a moment. A hint of interest gradually emerged on his extremely pale face. As Megan looked at him, he said, "This doesn't look like an accident. It could only be that someone made a surprising discovery. I guess there's a real gift waiting for us."
The Joker was sure of only this one thing, so he landed the car in a deserted lot. There were not many people here, so naturally no one noticed them. When Megan got out of the car, the night wind was quite cold, so the Joker put the thin blanket on Megan's shoulders as a shawl to prevent her from catching a cold accidentally, which would only cause trouble for him.
Megan grabbed the two corners of the blanket, spread them out and waved them like wings. Then the clown touched her head and warned her, "Don't try to be nice to me here. If you get sick, do you think anyone will take care of you?"
Megan: "Hmph!" Angry Little Bear snorted at him.
"Do you really have to listen to me say that you are the cutest child?" But that was her personality. She only liked to hear nice words and be coaxed.
In the dim light, Megan looked up at the clown. Her eyes were still clear and bright, filled with an extremely pitiful and lovely meaning. She said, "Then can you coax me?" She was still very confident!
The Joker couldn't help laughing at her appearance, but he bent down and tucked her cape back in place. He was wearing leather gloves the same color as his suit, which naturally felt even colder in the night, so he simply tapped her cheek lightly with the back of his fingers. Megan soon sneezed, and he slowly said, "I'm so worried about you! How could I not be heartbroken if you were sick?"
Megan gathered her shawl tightly, reached out a hand from inside and rubbed her nose. She was finally satisfied, "Well, don't get sick or hurt, Dad."
But how could she be worried about him? She was probably worried about those people she had only just met today! But he just took it as concern for him.
The Joker left the car behind and walked with Megan to the noisy place. The child, who walked very slowly, kept looking around. She was curious about this different Gotham in the future timeline and was interested in everything. Sometimes she would deliberately run a few steps just to step on the joints between the checkered bricks on the ground!
As they walked along, they naturally had no idea what kind of communication was going on between the vigilantes who were stopping the criminals escaping from Arkham in the most dangerous place.
The troublemaker was still a little confused. She had just fought off a wave of gang members and asked in the channel: "Honestly, I just realized something was wrong, so I wanted to stop the clown. But can anyone explain to me what the clown meant by 'big sale'?"
She squatted at the corner of the building, her dark purple cape fluttering in the wind, her eyes fixed on the ground below. "Please, I'm really curious."
Finally, it was Red Robin who answered her, "Megan and this Joker aren't the only ones who came to our universe."
"There are two or three more clowns, but I tend to..."
The Joker took Megan through a noisy area. Although there were voices and many other noises nearby, no one came out to stop them, and they had a smooth journey. When they reached a suddenly quiet street intersection, the Joker stopped.
The hem of his coat was blown slightly by the wind, and he said to the child, "Go out and play by yourself, kid. Maybe you can meet a new 'old friend' who doesn't recognize you. Go and say hello to him."
The author has something to say:
