Chapter 23 Chapter 23

Chapter 23 Chapter 23

Megan followed the Joker back to the cell. She enjoyed being with him. When the Joker was doing something, she would stick herself next to his legs or chair. Then she would do nothing and observe nothing, as if she had gained a moment of respite in this world full of strange things.

Now was no exception. She sat cross-legged beside the clown's chair, but at some point, she turned her head, her eyes focused, and she reached out and gently touched the hem of the clown's suit. When she wanted to grab it in her hand, the clown had already noticed her action.

The Joker tilted his upper body and looked down at the little mouse he raised casually, with inquiry and a hint of interest in his eyes. Ever since he got her, he had been accustomed to seeing where she was hiding and what she was doing. After bringing her back to Arkham, this habit was completely formed, so he always knew what she was doing.

He pulled the hem of the shirt out of Megan's hands with his leather-gloved hands, and said in a long, ambiguous tone, "Why are you always sneaking around, as if I don't allow you to do something."

So will Meghan respond to him?

Megan looked up at him again, then slowly grabbed his hand. During this process, the Joker just watched her movements. The moment her hand was grabbed by her, surprise suddenly burst out in his strange green eyes, but Megan's response was too limited, far from meeting his expectations, so he continued to suppress his emotions.

She wanted to snuggle up to him, her cheek resting on the back of the clown's hand, and she began to daydream again. And what did she do just now?! She just did it because she wanted to!

The clown grinned and said "Wow". He did not pull his hand back, but leaned over and cupped Megan's face with both hands. Their faces were too close, and the hot breath they exhaled brushed against each other's faces. If it were someone else, they would be frightened to faint just by seeing his pale face.

But Meghan, even at such a close distance, there was nothing in her eyes, and she blinked, but was a little confused.

The clown looked at her carefully, trying to see some clues, but he found nothing.

Megan was a child with slow perception. Even after living in Arkham Asylum for almost half a year, she still had no perception of other people's feelings and emotions, let alone kindness and malice - it was impossible for her to recognize something she herself did not have, so it was even more impossible for her to respond.

She is not ready to be picked yet, and needs to be patiently nurtured and waited for. This is an extremely time-consuming project. The Joker knows what he needs to pay from the beginning, so his attitude towards her is a little more tolerant than others. He has no intention of doing anything to her now.

But he was still satisfied to confirm that the project had made some progress.

The clown rubbed her face nonchalantly, then turned aside casually, waved his hand and said: "Go play somewhere else, but I suggest-"

"Go wash your hands and face, Megan. I won't send a doctor for you if you get sick."

As he continued his work, he glanced at the gloves he was wearing. Although he would sometimes clean and replace them, he generally didn't think they were very clean. They might be stained with blood, dust, rust, or even worse, chemicals and viruses. It was hard to say, but of course it was more likely that they were all present.

As for why he hadn't asked for this before, the Joker's smile was filled with deep emotion. Even the Penguin cared about Megan, so as her father, shouldn't he set an example? She was his favorite child.

Megan obediently went to the bathroom, and after washing, she came back and went straight into the darkroom. When it was time to rest at night, the clown came in and saw her sitting on the bed with a familiar box beside her.

Recognizing the child who had once fallen from the box, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why? What do you want it for?"

When he got closer, he saw some things in the small box, including a coin with the double-sided image of Ms. Gotham, a bookmark made of leaves, dried petals, crocodile scales, a few question mark decorations, and whole packaged cookies... He fell into deep thought.

The clown suddenly burst into a sharp, wild laugh. He loved his Megan so much. He took the box away and sat down next to Megan, stretching out his arms to hold her in his arms. After laughing, he looked at her, his tone low but rising at the end, and he was obviously excited. "Meghan, my child, have you started to reap the harvest?"

His girl has made her debut in Arkham's high-risk area! She's the best child star here! She can easily win the hearts of the most vicious and feared psychopathic criminals outside. Look at them, that group of criminals are obsessed with her.

He also recalled the scene he had witnessed that afternoon. It turned out that Penguin also treated children preferentially. So, would that gangster boss treat all children preferentially? If he truly was a good man with a conscience and a bottom line, he wouldn't be doing his lucrative business that created more homeless orphans in Gotham!

So it was Megan herself who earned the kindness of the Penguin Man. She was really amazing and as popular as he expected. After all, Megan was his favorite child, and no one would dislike her!

The clown hugged Megan, patted her shoulder and said with a smile: "Well done, but you should rest now." He closed the box and put it in a suitable position on the shelf on the other side, at a height that she could reach.

Megan made her bed, spread out the quilt and went to sleep. The Joker watched her finish all these things, turned off the lights and closed the door for her when she walked out, and said as usual: "Good night."

Black Mask reorganized his gang outside Arkham, trying to deal a heavy blow to Batman, but Gotham City is not peaceful at all recently. Well-informed people in Arkham learned that a group of foreign criminals entered Gotham and destroyed two small gangs in a short period of time. No one knows what their purpose is.

The well-informed person here refers to the Riddler. His brain makes him sensitive to every piece of information, and he can always put them all together in the end and finally come to conclusions that ordinary people can't imagine.

But after the cooperation between Penguin and Black Mask, he became more cautious, or he has always been cautious, hoping to make everything in order and preferably according to his plan.

As for the Penguin and Black Mask, one was furious after being betrayed, while the other successfully escaped from prison. Did he do anything about their plans?

He could only say that if both of them escaped from prison, Batman would think that he was involved and would directly use his fists to interrogate them, but only one person escaped. The collaborative prison break was the business of the Penguin and Black Mask. What did it have to do with him?

The one who was left behind after the betrayal only means that in his opinion, the threat posed by the Penguin to him is not as great as that posed by Black Mask. You must know that the former only loves business and interests, while the latter is a crazy, cruel paranoid. It is a very simple question of who to choose to offend.

He hid himself beautifully in Arkham. Anyway, the jailbreak plan would end when someone escaped and blocked the only defense loophole. He couldn't find a second way to escape, and no matter who came, he would use the same excuse.

After all, if he had the means, why wasn't he the one who escaped? This was the best proof.

At that time, in order to calm the Penguin's anger, the Riddler gave him Megan, who was borrowed from Killer Croc. After a while, seeing that the Penguin had returned to his gloomy but no longer furious appearance, he went to find Megan.

After circling Arkham's high-risk area for several times, I finally found her in the green corner outside the library.

He won't feel guilty, but...

The Riddler walked out from behind the wall with a smile on his face and asked another man in the corner, "Klein, what are you doing here? Do you mind solving this riddle for me?"

Yes, the person who is next to Megan now is Scarecrow. There is some conflict between him and the Joker. Has he decided to take revenge on Megan now?

But the scarecrow squatting on the ground rolled his eyes inelegantly. He looked handsome in that expression, but his tone was not polite. "I thought you had eyes and could see for yourself!"

"Damn it, what does this kid think of me? She actually asked me to hold soil for her! Soil!" He was so angry that his face was distorted, but he still squatted there without moving at all.

The Riddler was puzzled by this, but he didn't show it. He walked closer and saw that the Scarecrow was indeed holding a handful of dirt in his hand. At this moment, the Scarecrow swung the dirt directly at him. In order to avoid being beaten often, the Riddler had trained his physical fitness and reaction speed, and he dodged quickly.

But Megan, who was squatting with her back to them, was covered in dirt.

Megan was concentrating on picking up the clean soil. She felt something spilled on her body and shook her furry head to get rid of some of the soil. However, she had curly hair and the soil stuck in her hair could not be shaken off.

The Riddler was silent. Seeing that the Scarecrow was clearly furious, but still squatting with Megan, he asked sincerely, "So I was the one who interrupted your playhouse?"

Scarecrow snorted coldly and prepared to stand up. "Okay, I see you're tempted too, right? Let's all join in Megan's 'playing house' game. That way no one will be alone."

But just as he made a move, Megan sifted out a pile of relatively clean soil without any impurities. He turned his eyes and reached out his hand. Finally, with a sour face, he took another handful of soil and put it steadily into the cloth bag next to him. Although he was reluctant, he just played "house" with Megan.

The Riddler guessed that the Scarecrow didn't do it voluntarily; that couldn't be voluntary with the look on his face!

He didn't have much friendship with his fellow inmates, but after staring at them for a while, he smiled heartily and said, "Let me help you too." He actually joined in.
