Chapter 45 Chapter 45 [VIP]

Chapter 45 Chapter 45 [VIP]

The Joker was sent back to Arkham Asylum by Batman, while the Penguin, who had been working with him, was still outside.

It seems that this gangster boss only focuses on financial crimes, or selling contraband such as weapons and ammunition, drugs, poisons, anesthetics, etc. However, he sometimes cooperates with other criminals to create some big events in Gotham.

The Penguin is not that easy to deal with because his gang is different from the Joker Gang's "rabble". Instead, it is a group that truly shares common interests and is loyal to him. And since he is in business, the people he relies on most are smart people he can trust. They know who the boss is and what the boss wants.

They come because of their boss's power, and use all means to gather more wealth for him. At the same time, the Penguin Man is not stingy in giving them the benefits they seek. Except for his own unshakable position, everything else is to consolidate their group. In some special cases, the Penguin Man will also kill people as a deterrent.

He is a 'good boss' who has set rules for the gang. Those who follow the rules will only be demoted or given a hard time even if they offend him. As long as they are valuable, they can survive for a long time and get a reward from him that matches their efforts.

Of course, there is another very important rule:

As a subordinate, don't talk too much or make comments about your boss's appearance and behavior. Such a person will not live long no matter where he is. If he doesn't go to hell, he will only live a life worse than death.

In Gotham, the city of sin, it is easy to deal with a single criminal, but it is difficult for Batman, GCPD, FBI, DEA, ATF, etc. to deal with a large criminal group.

Judging from the fact that the Penguin was captured several times and even sent to Arkham Asylum, but he was able to get out and clear himself, his scheming and ability are terrifyingly strong.

When the Penguin and the Joker cooperate and intend to do something, it is destined to be more than a small fight. He doesn't care about the fact that the Joker was captured and taken back to Arkham by Batman. At most, he pays attention to how his own arrangements are after the Joker leaves.

On the other side, Nelson picked up Megan.

Although he only appeared in front of Megan after the Joker's order, in fact, he handled many affairs related to the Damon family and was aware of Megan's situation. Before receiving the order and coming to pick her up, he intuitively knew that her condition would change. After all, the Joker never did anything useless.

Sure enough, when he saw Megan, Nelson knew that the child he had thought was lucky was still lucky.

While driving on the road, Nelson saw from the rearview mirror that she was leaning on the glass window, looking outside with her eyes open, and then she would sit back down after a while, or move herself from one end of the seat to the other. Later, after a sudden brake that was not his fault, she hit her head and finally sat down and stopped moving.

She touched her head and was fortunate that it hit the front seat instead of something harder and sharper.

When they arrived outside Arkham Asylum, Megan reached out to try to do something, but the car door was opened by Nelson. She looked at him quietly, and then looked at the car door and it didn't move.

Nelson didn't understand what she meant, and before Megan could react, he directly picked her up from the car. He was used to doing this. More importantly, Megan didn't have emotions and feelings yet, and in his opinion, her personality was not complete, so at the moment, the Joker's orders were still the most important, and she didn't need to consider her thoughts.

He sent Megan into Arkham through a hidden passage, but he stopped at a certain intersection and did not move forward, so Megan had to walk the second half of the journey by herself.

Although he didn't see the person the Joker arranged to pick up Megan, Nelson thought about it, squatted down to look her in the eye, and said, "I can only take you here, Megan," he turned sideways and pointed forward.

"Keep going straight, the boss is waiting for you inside."

Megan is still afraid of the outside world. She has stayed in her own narrow world for a long time. It is the people outside who think she is "sick" and want to pull her out of such a lonely, miserable and empty situation, break the barriers that protect her and open the door that traps her. The Joker did all these things to make her suffer, but at the same time he also weaved a sweet trap for her.

Her cognition was still ignorant, and when her self was just recovering and budding, she was indoctrinated with such lies.

There is a look of love and pity in her eyes, and she believes the lie, but it sprouts a love that carries all her heart. This emotion does not come easily, and she herself is not even aware of it.

The Joker paid a lot to get it.

This is too crazy. I can't tell if the clown is crazy or if the child is too stupid to be his entertainment...

But when Megan stood at this intersection, her blank mind suddenly knew where she was going. She didn't say goodbye to Nelson, but just took a step and walked forward slowly.

On this journey alone, she saw many things in the dim environment: mud and sand under her feet, broken bricks, some holes in the wall, and cement bags piled on the roadside...

The light coming in from the skylight came in segments. When she walked past the things beside her, dark shadows fell on them, dragged behind her, and finally rushed in front of her to greet the things in front - there was already a silent communication between them.

Megan could hear her own breathing, her footsteps, and the sound of the ventilation fan, which whirred and sang a bland song without rhythm or melody.

After an unknown amount of time, there was a vast expanse of white ahead, which was very dazzling in the dim passage. Megan walked over and lowered her head to wait for her vision to adjust. She saw a few blades of grass on the ground beside her, and then a vine that she had seen many times came over.

Dark brown vines stood before her like snakes, sensing the pheromones in the air and quickly confirming that this was what it considered a large, harmless creature, and that they knew—

When Megan raised her hand, it wrapped around her wrist, expressing a certain degree of closeness. She looked in the direction of the vine's source and saw a red-haired woman standing in a corner for a while.

Poison Ivy noticed Megan's gaze and walked towards her. She hadn't seen this child for a long time. She originally thought that she would be taken away by the Joker and might encounter something particularly bad. She even thought about how to find something for the Joker. But the news coming in from outside Arkham...

But not that bad?

So she held back until today when she found a message from the plant she left somewhere in Arkham. She then paid some attention and discovered that the child had returned, but the plant she left there could not accurately express much information, so she came in person.

Her unnatural green eyes narrowed slightly, and she saw that the child had no obvious injuries and was in much better condition. She was looking up at her. Her life was more vibrant, and had already sprouted out of the ground, ready to grow.

Poison Ivy smiled with satisfaction. It seemed that Megan was well taken care of outside. She waved to her and said, "Long time no see, Megan. Come here and let me see you."

Megan used to be able to understand her a little and respond, so now she should be obedient.

The black-haired, green-eyed child took a few steps towards Poison Ivy's location, but suddenly stopped, his eyes passing over her figure and looking further behind him.

When Poison Ivy raised her eyebrows, Megan reached out her hand in that direction and said in a light, muffled voice with a strange tone, "Dad."

Someone is here to pick her up, oh, her dad.

It is a happy thing to meet your favorite child again, but it feels unlucky to notice the arrival of the clown.

The gentle and calm expression on Poison Ivy's face turned into a half-smile. She turned around to look at the Joker who had arrived. The sight of that hideous smile reminded her of madness and chaos, which brought her great discomfort.

There was a coldness in her eyes as she intentionally released biological toxins, but the Joker ignored her and was not affected at all. He didn't even say a word, just raised his hand and waved to Megan. She trotted over, with the two short braids on the back of her head shaking, and pressed herself close to him and grabbed his hanging hand, trusting and relying on him extremely.

"You have such deep feelings for each other." She said it neither softly nor harshly, her face and tone turning cold.

The Joker always put on his extremely hypocritical smile and said slowly: "Meghan is my child." Isn't it natural that they have a good relationship?

Of course, Poison Ivy could see that he looked nonchalant and didn't really mean it, but Megan was fooled by him.

More than a year had passed, and she had barely grown in stature.

Because of her previous malnutrition and her slow growth due to illness, she is only a few centimeters taller than she was then, only 1.26m tall and weighs 23.9kg. When she stands next to the clown, she looks almost pitifully short.

You have to know that her father is of amazing height, which makes her look pitiful. But Poison Ivy knows something about autism in children, and knows what it means when Megan comes out of her initial state and even calls out "Dad". This is different from her casual and meaningless whimpering. It means that she is finally no longer closed to herself, but is willing to communicate with the outside world, and thus giving birth to herself.

Poison Ivy stared at Megan and saw her stare back quietly.

Those eyes were pure and spotless, holding only the purest meaning. She had a peaceful attitude towards the outside world and others, and the only person she clung to was the clown beside her.

Although she has changed, there is still a clear line in her world where Megan accepts the Joker completely, while everyone else is just 'other'.

But in fact, Megan did not recognize emotions and feelings. It was just what the Joker did that made her like this, and she was temporarily unable to establish emotional connections with anyone other than the Joker.

She looked at Megan like a young animal that had walked into a trap, with the hunter right next to her, simply blinding her and taming her.

Poison Ivy believes that the Joker has no morals. He is evil, chaotic, and unscrupulous. It would be easy for him to brainwash a child, but does Megan, who was deceived by him, need to be rescued?

In her small world, only the Joker has had an influence on her from the very beginning. Even though she seems to be very popular in Arkham and even treated kindly by some criminals, in fact, apart from the Joker, is there anyone who really cares about her?

Megan was a child who was carefully trained by the Joker and turned around. Her spiritual sustenance is almost entirely on him, which is an unchangeable fact.

In this huge lie, no one can save Megan because she completely believes everything she perceives, and she will never have a second 'savior'.

...What a sad thing this is.

The author has something to say:

I sent out the last chapter in a hurry, without even writing a preface (pointing and smacking). Beware of the sunk cost trap, ugly dad, you will only invest more and more later hh

Yesterday afternoon at 4:30, I urgently changed the title of the article. I feel that the current one is quite straightforward and should be good. And I always felt that... the previous title and copywriting were a bit fraudulent (you) because the pace was very slow. Compared with the plot in the copywriting, the main text has just begun.

No one can save Megan from the Joker except her growing up and having her own direction to go.

I can reveal in advance: Megan is not a superstar or a rebel, she has her own ideals.
