Chapter 100: Too Much
Zhulan had memories of the Jiang family. She followed the sound of crying and saw that it was the house where the concubine lived. She ignored the Jiang family members who came out of the main house and walked quickly into the house with a gloomy face. The house was a little cold without the concubine at home. The two children were sitting under the quilt. The granddaughter was crying and the three-year-old grandson was coaxing her.
The little girl's face was red from crying. Zhulan's heart skipped a beat and she rubbed her hands to cool them down. She then touched her granddaughter's forehead and found that she didn't have a fever. She then touched her grandson and found that he didn't have a fever either. She exhaled and touched the quilt and found that it was a little warm. She guessed that it was the kang that was lit when the young lady left. The room was cold at noon because no one lit the fire. When she thought of the two young children being alone in the room, with no one to look after them and no one to light a fire, Zhulan's anger grew higher and higher.
When three-year-old Jiang Du saw that it was his grandmother, he cried along with his sister, feeling particularly wronged, "Grandma, Grandma, I miss you so much."
He always wanted to go to his grandmother's house, but his mother wouldn't let him. He wanted to eat egg custard, cakes, and his grandparents who were so kind to him.
Zhulan wiped her grandson's tears and coaxed him, "Come on, stop crying. Grandma will take you to grandma's house. Be good and stop crying."
The little granddaughter sniffled and stopped crying. Children are the most sensitive, and she held onto Zhulan's clothes and refused to let go. The little girl didn't know how to talk much, so she sobbed and touched her flat belly, "I'm hungry."
Zhulan's face was dark. The child didn't eat enough in the morning, and his stomach kept growling. She quickly took out the prepared candy from her purse and gave it to the child, "Eat the candy first, and wait for grandma to pack your clothes. Have a snack later."
Jiang Du held his sister obediently, watching his grandmother get on the kang and pack clothes. He was afraid that he was dreaming, so he swallowed the sugar water in his mouth. It was sweet and it was not a dream. His thin smiling face became happy. He would not be hungry when he went to his grandmother's house.
Zhulan had the key given by the eldest lady in her hand. Fortunately, the Jiang family was not so mean as to rummage through the boxes. The lock was hung securely on the box. Zhulan touched the trousseau box. This was the trousseau prepared by the original body. When Xuemei got married, the dowry was one of the best in the surrounding villages. The trousseau boxes were all made of fine wood.
Zhulan felt more and more guilty. The original couple really loved their daughter, but she and Zhou Shuren had forgotten about her. When she opened the box with the key, Zhulan took a look and felt sad. Only some dowry materials were left of the wedding dowry.
Fortunately, the eldest daughter was not stupid. She did not think of sending gifts to resolve the conflict. She also knew that good things could be brought to her home. The clothes for the two grandsons were all good. Zhulan felt a little relieved.
Zhulan had almost finished cleaning up, but none of the women from the Jiang family came over. Zhulan suddenly understood that her original self would take action without showing any fuss, and the women from the Jiang family were so scared that they hid away.
Zhulan dressed the two children neatly, went to the car to get two pieces of prepared cakes, and also brought back the pot of hot water. The pot was tightly covered and the temperature was about 40 degrees, which was just right to pour out and drink.
The two children ate carefully, one piece each. Zhulan touched her grandson's head and said, "Xiaodu, watch your sister eat. Grandma will go to the main room to talk to your grandmother. I will come back and take you back later, okay?"
Jiang Du licked the pastry at the corner of his mouth, "Well, grandma, I will take good care of my sister, and grandma, please come back soon."
He wanted to go to his grandmother's house as soon as possible because there were delicious foods there and he wouldn't be hungry.
Zhulan, "Okay."
Zhulan closed the door and walked towards the main room with a gloomy face. The only voice in the hall was Zhou Shuren's. His tone had not changed. Zhulan listened to Zhou Shuren saying, "My dear, this year several families have been unwilling to squeeze Jiang Sheng to work to compensate for his tuition. This is not fair. At the beginning, it was agreed by my dear and Jiang Sheng's brothers that he should go to school. Why do they resent him in the end? There are only a few people who pass the exam to become a scholar in ten villages, and there are even more who are stuck in the exam. He should have been prepared when he was sent to school. Now it is Jiang Sheng alone who is wrong. Isn't it too much?"
