Chapter 10 Alchemy
The Heavenly Court remained quiet for the rest of the time; everyone was either cultivating or busy with their own tasks. They no longer wandered around aimlessly as before.
Qing'er was also very busy, learning alchemy from the old lady and Laozi, and occasionally studying weapon crafting. When the other sisters weren't cultivating, they would tell each other stories about people who achieved fame and fortune but abandoned their wives and children, and like the one they were talking about now, a certain deity who foraged for wild vegetables.
"I'm so angry! All men in the world are no good!" Huang'er was furious.
The others were also furious. But Zi'er asked Qing'er curiously, "Fifth Sister, where did you learn all this from?"
"Of course I saw it at the Old Man of the Moon's place." Qing'er certainly couldn't tell the truth. The Old Man of the Moon could see human marriages and had many storybooks, so it was definitely the right thing to say.
With the plot about to begin, I definitely need to talk about these things more. It'll help to curb these love-struck fools, especially Zi'er. Just thinking about how she lives on pickled vegetables every meal in the story makes me so frustrated. And everyone in the story seems so clueless, maybe they're just too naive and don't think things through. For example, all they think about is helping her weave cloth to sell, to make Zi'er's life a little better. Why didn't they think of going to the mountains to dig up some ginseng or something to sell? They're fairies, not mortals; they should be afraid of the wolves and tigers in the deep mountains. Just thinking about this makes me speechless.
As Qing'er was thinking, she suddenly heard Lü'er say, "Why don't we go and take a look at the mortal world too?"
"Oh? Maybe we shouldn't go. There are too many bad people in the mortal realm," Lan'er said cautiously.
"Sixth Sister, we are fairies, we don't need to be afraid of mortals." Zi'er also really wanted to go down to the mortal world to play.
"That's right, that's right, Sixth Sister, you coward." Greenie rolled her eyes.
"No, have you forgotten? We still need to cultivate, and we can't descend to the mortal realm without permission," Cheng'er objected.
"Second sister, we're just going to play for a little while, it's not like we'll be gone for long. As long as we go quietly, no one will notice," Greenie continued.
Qing'er's heart skipped a beat. This wouldn't do. Qing'er quickly said, "What's so interesting about the mortal world? We can cultivate in the Heavenly Court and learn alchemy and weapon crafting from Laozi."
But Greenie said enthusiastically, "Fifth Sister, let's go take a look. There's no danger." Although she thought that men in the mortal world were all bad, they weren't going to find men; they just wanted to have some fun.
The other sisters joined in the commotion, all finding the prospect of visiting the mortal realm exciting. Zi'er's eyes sparkled with anticipation. Qing'er, secretly anxious, turned to Hong'er, who remained silent, and said, "Eldest sister."
"Alright, Fourth Sister, stop making things worse. If the Barefoot Immortal finds out we descended to the mortal realm without permission, we'll be in big trouble." Hong'er shook her head helplessly.
Just thinking about the Barefoot Immortal's stern face made Lan'er shudder, and she kept waving her hands, "Fourth Sister, I'm not going."
In the end, they didn't make it, but the sisters still listened to their eldest sister, Hong'er.
However, Greenie was still somewhat unwilling, muttering, "We cultivate every day, what's a little more time?" Seeing this, Greenie quickly changed the subject: "Sisters, let's cultivate properly. Maybe it will come in very handy in the future. When the Yin Erosion King comes out, any one of us sisters can easily beat her to the ground. Wouldn't that be awesome?" As she said this, Greenie knew it was impossible, but it didn't stop her from dreaming. It was better than thinking about going down to the mortal world to play every day.
