Chapter 20 The Fifth Princess of Heaven
"Hey, Fifth Sister, where are you going?" Greenie called out as soon as she saw Greenie leave, but Greenie had already disappeared.
"What should we do? Fifth Sister looks very angry," Lan'er said with some worry.
"It's all Third Sister's fault! What did she say? She made Fifth Sister leave in anger!" Cheng'er glared angrily at Huang'er. Huang'er realized she had spoken out of turn and lowered her head, remaining silent.
"Alright, alright, there's no use blaming Third Sister now. When Fifth Sister comes back, Third Sister should apologize to Fifth Sister properly." Hong'er, as the eldest sister, quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
"I understand, eldest sister," Huang'er replied weakly.
Qing'er, having left, had arrived in the mortal realm. Preparing to weave a dream for the emperor, Qing'er floated into the palace and found the emperor's bedchamber. She used her magic to quietly slip into the emperor's dream. In the dream, Qing'er stood beside a vast field.
The emperor looked at the woman in blue robes whose face he couldn't see with some confusion and asked, "Who are you?"
"Your Majesty, look at the crops growing in this field. They're called potatoes and corn," Qing'er said, not bothering with further explanation. Pointing to the robust plants, she continued, "Potatoes can be boiled or stir-fried, and corn can be boiled or roasted. They have extremely high yields. If we could find these foods and promote their cultivation throughout the country, the people would surely no longer suffer from famine." With that, Qing'er went on to explain the planting and cooking methods. (This is all made up; I don't even know if these things exist in this world.)
The emperor listened intently in his dream, no longer concerned about who it was, and nodded repeatedly. Qing'er, fearing he wouldn't take it seriously when he woke up, gave him a leaf.
When the emperor awoke from his dream, the words of the woman in green were still vivid in his mind. He initially thought it was just a dream, but then he noticed the leaves in his hand. He immediately summoned his ministers and ordered a search for those items. He concluded that the woman in his dream must be a fairy who couldn't bear to see human suffering and wanted the people to live well, so she appeared to him in his dream.
Before long, all these foods were found, and the emperor immediately arranged for people to try planting them according to the method described by the fairy in his dream. Several months later, the potatoes and corn were harvested in abundance, with yields indeed being extremely high.
The emperor ordered that seeds be given to the people free of charge. At first, the people didn't quite believe that the yield could be so high. But the seeds were free, and since ancient times, it's foolish not to take advantage of a good deal. So the people all planted some. When they harvested, they found it really was as the officials had said, and they were overjoyed. Then they began large-scale planting.
The people no longer worried about food and were deeply grateful to the emperor. Qing'er hadn't returned to the Heavenly Court these past few days, instead disguised herself as a traveling healer, treating patients and casually looking for a suitable place to put the cultivation technique stele. After visiting many places, she still felt that placing it in the capital was best. She feared that placing the stele would cause a commotion and lead to unpleasant incidents, so it was better to place it near the emperor's doorstep, where the emperor could then oversee security.
That day, Qing'er floated in mid-air, her voice resounding throughout the world: "I am the fifth princess of the Heavenly Court."
"Who's speaking?" A sudden exclamation came from the crowd, and the previously noisy scene instantly fell silent. Everyone pricked up their ears, trying to pinpoint the source of the sound.
"She seems to be a princess from the Heavenly Court?" someone said uncertainly, their voice tinged with doubt and surprise.
"Really?" another person asked immediately, clearly skeptical of the claim.
"There, look up!" someone shouted, pointing to a certain direction in the sky. Everyone looked up and saw a woman in blue robes, her face obscured, standing high in the sky.
"My God! Is this a god?" someone exclaimed, their voice filled with awe and fear.
"Didn't you hear? This is a princess from Heaven, isn't that a deity?" another person chimed in. His words convinced more people of this fact, and so they began to kneel down and kowtow, chanting prayers for divine protection.
