Chapter 42 Drunk
Qing'er noticed Li Lianhua's discomfort and tried to start a conversation, saying, "You secretly took the senior's wine, won't you get beaten up?"
Li Lianhua's lips curled up slightly, revealing a sly smile. "It's alright, it's alright. Master doesn't usually drink, so we'll just leave it here. Let's taste it for him first." Qing'er looked at him speechlessly. Do you think I believe that?
Li Lianhua understood Qing'er's meaning. He touched his nose and changed the subject, saying, "Come on, let's drink." He then handed Qing'er a bottle of wine.
Qing'er took the wine bottle, clinked it against his, and took a sip. "When do you plan to return to Si Gu Men?"
Li Lianhua paused, holding the wine, then took a sip. His eyes held a complex expression. "Back to Sigu Gate?" Li Lianhua repeated the words, his voice somewhat ethereal. After a long silence, he slowly spoke, "I don't know either."
Qing'er looked at him and asked, "Is there something else you can't figure out?" Li Lianhua tilted his head back and took another swig of wine, then smiled bitterly and said, "After this incident, I'm wondering if I'm really suited to be the sect leader." He still felt a little upset thinking about the complaints of the people and the accusations from the sect members.
Qing'er understood, still feeling sad. "If you're not suitable, then no one in this world is. You know how chaotic the martial world was before you were here. So-and-so died today, so-and-so family was wiped out tomorrow, people died all the time. Until you established the Four Gazes Sect, these things rarely happened anymore. You single-handedly brought peace to the martial world for so long, how can you say you're not suitable?" Qing'er looked at Li Lianhua earnestly, her eyes full of certainty. "Besides, you're human, not a god. How can you expect everyone to like you? Even gods aren't necessarily liked by everyone. Just do what you believe is right."
After listening, Li Lianhua remained silent for a moment, then slowly raised her head, the confusion in her eyes seeming to dissipate somewhat. "You're right."
Qing'er patted his shoulder, "That's right. Look at those petty thieves in the martial world, which one doesn't fear Si Gu Men, and which one doesn't respect you, Sect Leader Li?" Li Lianhua's lips gradually turned up, revealing a relieved smile. He raised the wine bottle again, "Come, a toast to you, thank you, Miss Qing'er." Thank you for your recognition, and thank you for saving so many brothers, and also for saving... Li Xiangyi.
Qing'er smiled and raised her wine bottle, clinking it against his. The two tilted their heads back and drank the wine in one gulp. As night deepened, their laughter carried far and wide in the quiet night.
"Qing'er, I'm so happy," Li Lianhua said, his eyes gradually becoming hazy, showing signs of intoxication. He swayed as he straightened up, nearly falling, but Qing'er quickly caught him. She could tell he was drunk just by looking at him. "Li Lianhua, you'd better hold on tight, or don't blame me if you fall." This was on a rooftop; if he fell face-first, even the best in the world would be disfigured!
Li Lianhua leaned against Qing'er and said, "I'm so happy." He was happy that Qing'er had appeared when he was helpless, and he was happy that everyone was alive.
"I know, I know, you're happy." Qing'er shook her head helplessly and helped him sit down.
Suddenly, he leaned closer to Qing'er, his gaze intense as he looked at her. "Qing'er, do you know how beautiful you are when you smile?" Qing'er's cheeks flushed at his sudden action, and her heart inexplicably raced. She coughed lightly, feigning composure, and said, "You're drunk." But Li Lianhua persisted, "I'm not drunk." As he spoke, he slowly leaned his head towards Qing'er, and just as his cheek was about to touch hers, Qing'er instinctively turned her head away. "Stop it."
Li Lianhua looked aggrieved. "Why is Miss Qing'er avoiding me?" he muttered, his eyes full of confusion.
Qing'er was both amused and annoyed by his appearance. "You're so drunk. What will you do when you sober up and remember all this?" Li Lianhua tried his best to appear sober. "I'm not drunk."
"Fine, if you're not drunk, you're not drunk." Qing'er was speechless; she didn't want to argue with a drunk person.
Just then, a night breeze blew by, and Li Lianhua shivered, his body swaying as he nearly fell towards the edge of the roof. Qing'er cried out in alarm, instinctively reaching out to grab him. Li Lianhua slumped into Qing'er's arms, his eyes blurry with drunkenness, slowly closing, his breathing gradually becoming steady, and he had fallen asleep. Qing'er looked helplessly at the sleeping Li Lianhua in her arms, feeling both annoyed and amused. The roof was windy; she couldn't let him sleep there forever.
Qing'er had no choice but to pick him up and quickly carry him back to the room, settling him on the bed. Looking at Li Lianhua, who still looked somewhat childlike in his sleep, Qing'er gently tucked him in and left.
