The cockpit is not small, but it's not big either. If one person sits in the driver's seat, even if four other people were to huddle around the driver's seat, they still wouldn't fit.
Unless someone is sitting on the driver's lap.
Holding a girl while piloting a mecha is standard practice (in the anime), so it's nothing unusual.
Unfortunately, the driver was not Li Changzhou.
"Who's driving?" Li Changzhou asked Yang Qinglan, Li Qianxia, and Yaochi.
The three exchanged glances, and Yaochi said, "I can't."
"Um?"
"I don't know either," Li Qianxia said.
"What?"
“Me too,” Yang Qinglan said.

The mecha staggered forward one step.

Rather than believing in technology, Yaochi actually cares more about her image. She would rather be exposed than squeeze into the small cockpit like a cotton swab for cleaning ears.
