Are mecha really something you can learn just by reading the instructions?
“It has nothing to do with me. I think Mr. Weiss must have had a foundation before,” she said.
“Hmm—” Li Changzhou crossed his arms and pondered.
His elbow almost brushed against Yang Qinglan's eastern hemisphere, so she forcibly pressed it back.
“Perhaps it really is possible,” Li Changzhou said suddenly, as if a thought had occurred to him.
"Where did you get your foundation from?" Li Qianxia, who had been with him since the cellular level, undoubtedly had the most authoritative voice.
“You don’t understand,” Li Changzhou said. “Actually, I’ve been consciously studying mechs since I was a child. Every time I pass by a construction site, I’ll watch the excavators for half an hour.”
“Excavator…” Yang Qinglan repeated the word, seemingly in despair.
“Ya,” Li Changzhou said, looking past her at Bea Triss, “excavators are mechs, right?”
“Excavator…” Bea Triss said slowly, her gaze turning to Li Qianxia.
Li Qianxia rattled off a vivid and engaging explanation of what an excavator is, accompanied by digging and manipulating gestures.
After listening, Bea Triss thought about it seriously for a while: "I am not a professional mecha pilot, but I think that even if an excavator is not a mecha, it is undoubtedly an engineering vehicle that is very close to a mecha."
"So that's how it is! That explains why I was able to pilot the mecha just by reading the manual!" Li Changzhou slammed his right fist into his left palm.
"..." Bea Triss felt that Li Changzhou's tone was like he was playing a trick on her, but she was in no mood to care about such things at the moment.
Even being called 'Ya' is an affectionate term her husband would use, and she didn't care about it.
She felt listless and uninterested in anything.
Along the way, I have witnessed the deaths of those around me one by one. Now there are only five of us left. And the future we have gained through such hard work and sacrifice is yet another long period of torment.
I want to be like a convertible, suppressing infrared radiation and absorbing radar waves, and disappearing completely from this world.
Li Qianxia held her hand, applying a slight pressure as if to comfort her.
Ignoring the princess's emotions, Li Changzhou whispered to Yang Qinglan, "I think the main reason is that you sat on my lap and gave me a reward, which stimulated my potential."
"Is it really a reward?" Yang Qinglan asked meaningfully.
"Huh?" Li Changzhou didn't understand what she meant.
"If I don't sit on your lap, who will?"
"...Qianxia?"
"I'll give you one more chance."
"Thinking about it carefully, it really can only be you."
Yang Qinglan nodded in satisfaction.
The two had already communicated with their eyes—they would find an opportunity to test Win Caroline with the Bible later.
The car was driving openly on the main road, its stealth function retracted. This function consumed too much energy and could only be used in critical moments.
“The main roads nearby are all blocked, so I have to take a detour to avoid any accidents,” said Win Caroline.
"Safety is the most important thing," Yaochi replied.
The border road is wide and empty; you can't see a single car for half a day. They drive silently on the road, as if they are the only ones left in the whole world.
After driving all day, we circled around and dodged several checkpoints, getting a little closer to the capital.
At night, Win Caroline parked her car at a roadside gas station, posing as a tourist staying at a motel.
Yang Qinglan took out a few low-grade coins from the small jade cauldron. Since no one was in the mood for eating, these were just right; they could simply pop them into their mouths and swallow them.
"What is this?" Win Caroline asked curiously.
"The secret of the Queen's Knights." Yang Qinglan spoke calmly and indifferently, while Li Qianxia spoke cheerfully and lively, both of them saying at the same time.
Bea Triss, who was in a bad mood, pursed her lips.
"Ya, shall we go to the restroom?" After finishing her meal, Li Qianxia extended an invitation, a gesture symbolizing female friendship.
Bea Triss had never gone to the toilet with anyone before, but perhaps it was an instinct ingrained in women's bodies—going to the toilet together—that made her not refuse the request.
"I'll join you too." Yang Qinglan stood up.
Li Qianxia linked arms with the two men and walked into the gas station with a soft clatter.
The night was quiet, and the gas station was like a fortress of light, resisting the heavy darkness and isolating itself from the outside world.
Only Li Changzhou, Yaochi, and Wen Caroline remained in the car.
“At the current pace,” Yaochi said, looking at the electronic map, “it will take about four days to reach the capital.”
“This is the safest route,” said Win Caroline.
"If it's really safe," Yaochi pondered, looking at the map.
Li Changzhou tapped lightly on the car door, keeping watch on his surroundings.
A short while later, the three of them came out of the gas station. Li Qianxia and Wen Caroline were chatting, while Yang Qinglan listened quietly.
"Winter!" He closed the car door.
"Caroline," Yang Qinglan asked casually, "what is your purpose?"
"Delaying time, in order to, um? Uh!"
In the instant Wen Caroline reacted, Li Changzhou grabbed her by the neck from behind.
Bea Triss stood there, stunned, not knowing what was going on. She hadn't even paid attention to the word "delaying time".
Li Qianxia didn't know about the plan before, but just now in the bathroom, thanks to her exceptional hearing, she heard Yang Qinglan chanting the Bible in repentance.
Yaochi was a step behind her. She immediately realized that something was wrong with Wen Caroline. Her second thought was that she had encountered the same situation in the Pear Garden and suddenly spoke the truth.
"Who sent you?" Yang Qinglan continued to ask.
